Ruth M. Gagliardi

PLATTSBURGH — Mrs. Ruth M. Gagliardi, 77, of Sunrise Drive, passed away Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt.

She was born on Long Island, N.Y., on Dec. 23, 1926, the daughter of Otto and Mildred (Saltswedle) Altenburg.

Ruth was reading buddy at Cumberland Head School where she was known as Grandma Ruth. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, ceramics and spending time with her family and friends.

Ruth had served as the chairman of the Girl Scout Cookie Drive and had assisted with Boy Scouts Bottle Drives. She owned and operated Tiny Tots Day Care and volunteered with the RSVP. Ruth was former treasurer of the Italian-American Club and she was a member of St. Mary’s of the Lake Church on Cumberland Head.

She was predeceased by her parents, Otto and Mildred Altenburg.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 56 years, Antonio J. "Tony" Gagliardi of Beekmantown; a son, Anthony "Tony" Gagliardi and his wife Patti of Williston Park, Long Island; a daughter, Patricia "Pat" McNeil of Plattsburgh; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Joseph and his wife Melissa, Thomas, Paul, Ashley, Jessica and Timmy Paul; a brother, Arthur J. Altenburg and his wife Mitch of Maryland; a sister, Winifred Mizzoni of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. Mary’s of the Lake Church on Cumberland Head. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends wishing may have Masses said in her memory.

Addie Emily Frank

KEESEVILLE — Addie Emily Frank, 82, of Keeseville Country Gardens and formerly of Constable, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Huntington, Quebec, Dec. 3, 1921, the daughter of Oliver and Rosanna (Deschamps) Deschambeault.

She was a waitress at the Huntington Chateau and more recently worked as a clerk at Kinney’s Drugstore in Malone

Addie was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

She enjoyed flower gardening.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law, Andre Grenon and companion, Francine Lavalle of St. Catherine, Quebec, George Grenon and companion, Sylvie Tremblay of Valleyfield, Quebec, and James and Tanya Frank of Keeseville; six grandchildren, Stephen, Josee, Jonathan, Cory, Amy and Stefanie; two sisters, Helen Daniel of Ormstown, Quebec, and Blanche Deschambeault of Huntington, Quebec; a brother, Roma Deschambeault of Montreal, Quebec; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Wilfred A. Frank, on March 21, 1978.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated noon Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable with the Rev. Francis Flynn, pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Constable Volunteer Fire Department.

Vesta Bashaw

Clintonville — Vesta Bashaw, 78, of Route 9N, Clintonville, passed into the arms of the Lord, surrounded by her family and caregivers, on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at her home.

Vesta was born July 19, 1926, in Ellenburg Center, the daughter of Harold D. and Anna Hazel (Gilmore) Coolidge.

She enjoyed working in her flower garden and giving articles of clothing to different organizations for people in need. Vesta loved her home and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her special pet was her golden retriever, "Tilly".

Survived by her husband, Oril Bashaw, whom she married Oct. 14, 1947, at the Methodist Parsonage in Jay; two sons, Toby Bashaw and his companion Elizabeth Hendrix of Massachusetts and Brian Bashaw and his wife Patty Demeo of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Cathy and Ron Kodra of Tennessee; six grandchildren, Nathan, Jonas, Molly, Korey, Evan and Austin; four great-grandchildren, Marissa, Robert, Cameron and Logan; two brothers, William Coolidge of Florida and Robert Coolidge of California; three sisters, Margaret Gilroy of California, Virginia Palmatier of New York and Helen Coolidge of Vermont; her aunt, Helen Johnson of Malone, who will be 101 in December; and also several nieces and nephews.

Vesta was predeceased by her parents; and a sister, Carol Coolidge.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service and burial will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Memorials to her may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks, is in charge of arrangements.

Lucille E. Betts

PLATTSBURGH — Lucille E. Betts, 89, formerly of Iron Gate Apartments, South Catherine Street, Plattsburgh, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Malone on July 18, 1915, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Bonner) Chapman.

Lucille was a member of the First Baptist Church in Plattsburgh. She was a high school teacher at Tupper Lake and later the Plattsburgh Middle School on Broad Street until her retirement in 1973. Meanwhile, she returned to get her masters degree at Plattsburgh State University.

Survivors include two sons, John and his wife Barbara Betts of Ocala, Fla., and William and his wife Kate Patrick of Plattsburgh; three daughters, Bette Ridgeway and her husband Stephen Cauldwell of Santa Fe, N.M., Lucy and her husband Michael Petrie of Vergennes, Vt., and Kathryn Betts of Plattsburgh; one brother, James Chapman of New Jersey. Lucille had 11 grandchildren, Dana Barrett, Charles Betts, Theodore Betts, Lucille Betts, Piper Petrie, Emily Walker, Evan Petrie, Scott Valenti, Greg Valenti, Liza Valenti and Matthew Valenti; and a growing number of great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jack DeCourcey in 1999; one brother, Charles "Bud" Chapman II; and first husband, Elwyn Vincent Betts.

There are no calling hours. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.

Donations in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church Endowment Fund.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn Lee

RUTLAND, VT./WILMINGTON — Carolyn "Schultz" Lee, 61, formerly of Wilmington and presently of Rutland, Vt., passed away at the Fletcher Allen Hospital, Burlington, Vt., on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Schenectady, April 14, 1943, the daughter of Ernest and Ada "Ling" Schultz.

She was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother. Carolyn donated her time to community service at the Rutland Neighborhood Association and Lake Champlain preservation. She also was employed at one time as a bookkeeper and secretary at the Lake Placid Club.

Survived by her mother, Ada Schultz of Wilmington; two sons, David and Jeffrey Fitz-Gerald of Rutland, Vt.; two daughters, Barbara Fitz-Gerald of Castleton, Vt., and Robin Lee of Rutland, Vt.; a brother, Dennis Schultz of Keeseville; three sisters, Sally Schultz and Ernestine Randall, both of California and Linda Lesperance of Port Henry; 7 grandchildren, Elizabeth Fitz-Gerald, Kyle Hughes, Vincent Fitz-Gerald, Jacqueline Fitz-Gerald, Aaron Fitz-Gerald, Jasen Fitz-Gerald and Wyatt Fitz-Gerald; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, Ernest Schultz; and a sister, Betty Jane Hansen; and a brother, Michael Schultz.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks.

Arrangements are by the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home.

Warren L. Lasell, 67, of 21st Avenue, Greeley, Colo., and formerly of Peru, N.Y., died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, in Greeley, Colo.

He was born in Plattsburgh, March 29, 1937, the son of Clifford and Kathryn (Vaughn) Lasell.

A funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at the First Congregational Church in Greeley, Colo. Local inquiries may be directed to the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.
