Published: 10/30/04Gertrude E. MorrisMassena, N.Y. — Gertrude E. Morris, 79, of Andrews Street, Massena, N.Y., died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, when she had been a patient since Oct. 10, 2004. She was born in Potsdam, N.Y., on Feb. 13, 1925, the daughter of Floyd and Beatrice (Aubin) Peets. A graduate of Massena High School, she had worked at one time during World War II at Alcoa; later, following her marriage, she was employed at the Massena Observer newspaper in the journalist department. She married Robert A. Morris on March 21, 1945, at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Massena, with Rev. Gerald Kellogg presiding. Mrs. Morris and her late husband owned and operated St. Lawrence Glass Company for many years. Mr. Morris died Jan. 20, 1984. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Rene (Deborah) Verville of Plattsburgh; four sons and daughters-in-law: Robert K. (Kip) and Daleann, Bradley M., John A. and Darby, all of Massena and Daniel C. and Tammy of Englewood, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Olin Peets of Massena, Frederick Peets of Hannawa Falls and Richard Peets of Canton; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Gregory Morris and a grandson, Michael Morris predeceased Mrs. Morris; she also was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Foster and Stanley Peets. Mrs. Morris was a long time member of the Massena Country Club. She enjoyed her grandchildren and watching television game shows. Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Alan D. Shnob presiding. Interment will be Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or the Michael Morris Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Massena Central School. |
