Published: 9/23/04William B. BarlowPlattsburgh — William B. Barlow, 87, of Route 22, Plattsburgh, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Sharon, Conn., March 19, 1917, the son of Henry and Gladys (Burlingame) Barlow. He graduated in 1940 from Rhode Island State University with a bachelor of arts. Bill was a lifelong dairy farmer. Mr. Barlow married the love of his life, Doris (Shook) Barlow, Dec. 6, 1941, in South Amenia. Together they raised five children. Three daughters, Marylou Farnham of Dover Plains, Connie Sprossel of Snellville, Ga., and Doreen Newton of Wassaic; and two sons, Jesse and wife Sandra Barlow of Peru and Thomas and wife Wava Barlow of Mooers. Survivors also include 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alcy Nordeen of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mary Asplund of Bloomer, Wis.; one brother, Robert Barlow of Geona; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; one brother, Thomas; and two sisters, Jane Howard and Ruth Barlow. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Donations in his memory may be made to the Peru Rescue Squad. Harold G. HoughBLOOMINGDALE — Harold G. Hough, 82, of Roosevelt Ave., Bloomingdale, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at his home. He was born in Union Falls, N.Y., on Feb. 22, 1922, the son of Walter and Marguerite (Collins) Hough. Harold was a graduate of AuSable Forks High School and later he and his brother George graduated from the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Paul Smiths. He was trained as a machinist in Chicago. He enlisted in the Army and served four years during World War II. For three years he fought on the front lines in Okinawa. In 1945, he returned to the area. He held various jobs as a mechanic, logger, road construction, electrician, welder and diesel mechanic and worked for the tree preservation company. He was employed at Saranac Lake Central School as a mechanic for 20 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. Hough was a communicant of St. Paul's Church, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3357 and the Loyal Order of Moose and enjoyed playing horseshoes. He is survived by his wife, the former Joan Turner of Lake Clear, whom he married Sept. 9, 1950; five children, Roxanne McCarty and her husband Mark of Bloomingdale, Bertice K. Hough of Stuart, Fla., Sylvia L. Hough and her husband Harrison Ewing of Union Falls, N.Y., Holly Hough Baldwin and her husband Kim of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Shelly R. Hough of Saranac Lake; four grandchildren, Marguerite McCarty, Ives McCarty, Liza Hough and Travis Hough; two sisters, Mildred Singleton of Colonie, N.Y., and Ruth Laundry of Loon Lake, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Hough; his mother, Marguerite Collins; his daughter, Heidi Joanne Hough who died in infancy; and two brothers, Bertice Hough and Gerald Hough who died in World War II in France. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Church in Bloomingdale with Father Patrick Mundy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery. Friends wishing to remember Harold may make memorial contributions to Loyal Order of Moose, Tri-Lakes Humane Society or High Peaks Hospice in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. Hugh McLaughlin IV, 88, of Margaret Street, Saranac Lake died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born in Saranac Lake, N.Y., on March 23, 1916, the son of Hugh and Hazel (English) McLaughlin. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A bible vigil service will take place at 8:45 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake. Burial will follow in Old St. Bernard's Cemetery located in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake. |
