Alida D. Reynolds

ALBURG, VT./ROUSES POINT — Mrs. Alida D. Reynolds, 84, died late Saturday afternoon, Sept. 18, 2004, in the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

Born in Windsor Mill, Quebec, Canada, Aug. 3, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Alphonse and Dina (Cotnoire) Goodrow. She attended schools in Granby, Quebec and was married to Walter Reynolds, who predeceased her on April 13, 1991.

A resident of the Alburg community for more than 50 years, Mrs. Reynolds was a devoted parishioner of Saint Amadeus Roman Catholic Church. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Anita Juneau of Plattsburgh and Mrs. Geneva Boire of West Chazy, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband Walter she was predeceased by four sisters, Mrs. Lea Pion, Mrs. Lucille Carson, Mrs. Janette Tyo and Mrs. Laura Castine; and four brothers, Arthur, Ernest, Gerry and Lionel Goodrow.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Amadeus Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Alburg Village. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist.

Interment will follow in the Reynolds family lot in Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona.

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Gifts in Mrs. Reynolds’s memory may be made to Saint Anne’s Shrine in care of Brian J. Cumming, SSE Isle La Motte, Vt. 05463.

Walter Newton

TUPPER LAKE — Mr. Walter Newton, 89, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Mercy Healthcare Center where he has resided since last December. Mr. Newton was born in Byron, N.Y., on Nov. 5, 1914, the son of the late Richard C. and Sivilla (Lawson) Newton.

He married Leona F. Willard on Aug. 26, 1944, and they made their home in LeRoy, N.Y., where they owned and operated a farm together on West Main Street. Mr. Newton then worked at Jello corporation in LeRoy until the plant was closed in 1963, at which time he was transferred to the General Foods Carton and Container Corp. as maintenance foreman in Saratoga Springs. He moved with his family to nearby Greenfield Center until his retirement in 1979. He and his wife then purchased a home in Gale, N.Y., to fulfill their desire to retire to the Adirondacks. Together they enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing and visiting with their Childwold and Piercefield friends. Mrs. Newton predeceased him on their 38th anniversary, Aug. 26, 1982.

He was also predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Albert; five sisters, Mary, Edith, Charlotte, Mildred and Geraldine; and his son-in-law, James Pagach. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Ruth (Newton) Mock of Shillington, Pa., and his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Hon. Marshall and Mary (Newton-Pagach) Jarvis of Tupper Lake; his two grandsons, Louis Bowers and his fiancée Dee Barnett of Blandon, Pa., and William Bowers of Pa.; two great-grandsons, Jacob and Evan Bowers of New Hampshire; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Willard of Attica, N.Y.; and many loving nieces and nephews of LeRoy, Attica and Alexander, N.Y. He is also survived by five step-grandchildren: Mrs. Dennis (Lisa) Jones and Peter Jarvis of Tupper Lake, Pamela Jarvis and her fiancé Jay Kimberly of Saranac Lake, Mrs. Steven (Susan) Brown of Huntsville, Ala., and Mrs. Kenneth (Judy) Baker of Cicero, N.Y. and their children.

Friends may call at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home on Cliff Avenue, Tupper Lake, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Wednesday with burial immediately following in the Gale cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks, Next Stop(!) Tupper Lake Railroad or the Adirondack Public Observatory in care of the funeral home.

LILLIAN V. CUMMINGS, 87, of Galeton, Pa., and formerly of Malone, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 in Coudersport, Pa.

Born in Brainardsville on April 2, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Ella (LaPlante) Merrill.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery.

ELDRED E. "MAC" McCOMBER, 71, of Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at his residence.

Arrangements were incomplete Sunday at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

MILDRED R. JOHNSTON, 74, of 215 Elm St., Malone, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at the Franklin County Nursing Home in Malone.

Born in Ellenburg on Sept. 20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William and Agnes (Wright) Forett.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday in Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

EDWIN A. RICE, 80, of Moriah, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home in Ticonderoga.

He was born March 23, 1924, in Shaftsbury, Vt., the son of Mark and Myrtle (Bauplain) Rice.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry.
