Published: 9/16/04Carol E. LaPierreCADYVILLE — Carol E. LaPierre, 59, of Route 374, Cadyville, died early Tuesday morning, Sept. 14, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Schenectady on March 2, 1945, the daughter of Alfred and Mae (Cartier) Palumbo. She was a graduate of Lake Placid High School and there after, met and married her husband of 39 years, Ronald LaPierre. She was an active parishioner in St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid, in St. Mary's Church in Ticonderoga and St. James Church in Cadyville. Her many hobbies and interests included crafts, church organizations including the Catholic Daughters of America and her beloved grandson, Jacob. She leaves behind many family and friends including her husband, Ronald; a son, Joseph of Lake Placid; a son, James and his wife Mary Margaret of Dannemora; her grandson, Jacob of Dannemora; her mother, Mae Palumbo of Lake Placid; and a brother, David Palumbo and his wife Camilla of Lake Placid. She was predeceased by her father, Alfred Palumbo. The will be no calling hours. A. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Church in Cadyville. Donations in Carol's memory can be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center of CVPH in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Lida (Beardsley) Sloper MartinWillsboro — Lida (Beardsley) Sloper Martin, 88, of Willsboro, died at the home of her daughter Joan on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004. She was born in Whallonsburg, N.Y., Nov. 29, 1915, the daughter of Harry and Nellie (Spear) Beardsley. Lida graduated from high school at age 16 with a regents diploma and was the class salutatorian. She was the first woman school-bus driver in Essex County and for many years she was the truant officer and bus driver for the Willsboro Central School, she and her husband Wallace ran the L & W Restaurant, she was a home health aid, a trustee of the Willsboro United Methodist Church, a member of the Willsboro Bowling League and she loved to fish and garden. Lida is survived by her children, June MacDougall (Bill Dickens) of Keeseville, Joan Sloper (Theresa Gauthier) of Willsboro, Janice Simmons (Loyal Simmons) of Oswego, Allen Sloper (Phyllis Sloper) of Willsboro and Vickie Phanuef (Joseph Phanuef) of Morrisonville; a brother, Rudolf Beardsley; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two husbands, Wallace Sloper (1978) and Norman Martin (1997); a son, Jack Sloper; a daughter, Katherine Ruskouski; a brother, Clinton Beardsley; a sister, Bernice VanDerVolgen; and a grandson, Brian Konkoski. Calling hours will be held at the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at the Willsboro United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow in the Memorial Cemetery, Essex Road, Willsboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to the Willsboro Methodist Church; High Peaks Hospice; or a charity of your choice. Helen C. Bessette, 70, of Route 30, Constable, N.Y., died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, N.Y., she had been a patient there since Sept. 7, 2004. She was born in Burke, N.Y., April 12, 1934, the daughter of the late Arthur and Charlotte Gram Dear. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. until noon Friday at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at noon with Rev. Bruce Aubrey officiating. Burial will be in the Burke Center Cemetery. NEDRA M. BARBER, 83, of Plattsburgh and formerly of Keeseville, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004 at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of the North Country. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. |
