Joanne M. Champagne

MORRISONVILLE — Joanne M. Champagne, 63, of Rand Hill Road, Morrisonville, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on April 11, 1941, the daughter of Curtis J. and Theresa (Russell) Hart.

Joanne was a graduate of Peru Central School in 1959.

She retired from Georgia Pacific in Plattsburgh where she worked from 1979 to 2002. Prior to her employment at Georgia Pacific, she worked at Plattsburgh State University College for many years.

She enjoyed bowling, knitting, reading and traveling, but her true love was her granddaughters.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon G. Champagne of Morrisonville, whom she married Nov. 19, 1960 at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville; a daughter, Michelle and her husband Kevin Dowling of Finksburg, Md.; a son, David Champagne of Plattsburgh; four granddaughters, Emma Joanne and Ellen Dowling, and twin sisters Cammie and Chloe Champagne; a brother, Thomas and his wife Jane Hart of Ballston Lake; many relatives; and a large circle of friends.

She was predeceased by her mother and father.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated noon Wednesday at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville with the Rev. Joseph W. Elliot, pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friend A. Cross

WILLSBORO — Friend A. Cross, 84, of Reber Valley Road, died at Elizabethtown Hospital Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004.

He was born in Whallonsburgh on May 13, 1920, the son of Gordon and Iva (Crowningshield) Cross.

Mr. Cross served in a military police unit of the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. While in the service he entered the European front at Normandy Beach on D-Day. In recognition of his service, he received the Distinguished Unit Badge, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with Bronze Arrowhead and the Good Conduct Medal.

After he was discharged from the Army, he returned to Reber and for 40 years he was a dairy farmer, maintaining a high-producing herd of Holsteins. After retiring from dairy farming, he spent the next 20 years as a breeder and trainer of harness race horses.

He was a member of the United States Trotting Association, Reber Grange, Reber Fire Department, The Farm Bureau, past member of the Willsboro School Board, GLF/Agway 27 year committeeman, Artificial Cattle Breeders Association committeeman, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Dairy League Association.

Mr. Cross is survived by his wife, Virginia (Phillips), whom he married March 14, 1942; daughter Barbara Ann Comithier of Delmar; the Rev. Leonard D. Comithier Jr. of Albany; son Eugene Friend Cross of Lee, Maine; former daughter-in-law Sherrie Cross of Peru; three grandchildren, Lara Comithier, Aaron Cross (Kelly) and Paula Lincoln (Roger); several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday with funeral services to follow at 3. Burial will be in Reber Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Elizabethtown Community Hospital, Reber Fire Company or Reber Methodist Church.

Joseph O. Cumm

ESSEX — Joseph O. Cumm, 86, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh. He was born June 8, 1918, in Willsboro, the son of Ira and Philomeana (Barcomb) Cumm.

Joe was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. He enjoyed playing poker, going to auctions and was an avid hunter, fisherman and was a collector of antique tools.

He is survived by his wife Leola Cumm of Essex; three daughters, Betty Sherman of Plattsburgh, Charlotte Lacey of Lewis and Judy Dickerson of Willsboro; one son, Ronald Stafford of Keeseville; two brothers, Anthony Cumm of Essex and Robert of Maryland; 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Arthur, Howard, Lawrence and Henry; and one sister, Margaret Allard.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at W.M. Marvin’s Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in New Burt Cemetery in Whallonsburgh.

Wayne T. "Cricker" LaGoy

MORRISONVILLE — Wayne T. "Cricker" LaGoy, 63, of Soper Street Morrisonville passed away Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004 at the CVPH Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 13, 1940, the son of Harry and Jean (Durand) LaGoy. He was a member of the Laborers Local 186. Wayne, a devoted Yankee fan, enjoyed photography, taking rides and spending time with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father Harry LaGoy.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 46 years Mary (Daniels) LaGoy of Morrisonville, his children Rick LaGoy and his wife Jane of Ballston Lake, N.Y.; Shari Cameron and her husband Allen of South Hero, Vt.; Thomas LaGoy and his wife Jody of Plattsburgh; Scott LaGoy and his wife Julie of Ballston Lake, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; his mother Jeanette LaGoy of Plattsburgh. He is also survived by his two bothers, Richard LaGoy and his wife Terry of Webster, N.Y., and William LaGoy and his wife Donna of Chestertown, N.Y.; and by his three sisters, Janet Wieworka and her husband Robert of Plattsburgh; Betty Jean Anagnos and her husband William of Fairport, N.Y.; and Sandra Rabideau of Plattsburgh; along with several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Tuesday 3 to 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 1 p.m. from St. Peter’s Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Friends wishing may make donations to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.

WILLIAM W. GUILBO SR., 64, of Plattsburgh died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004 at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 29, 1939, the son of William R. and Bertha (Douglas) Guilbo.

Calling hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Church.

Arrangements are incomplete with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

MARTIN G. CAMPBELL, 87, formerly of McCutcheon Road, Saranac, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004 at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home.

He was born in Saranac on February 21, 1917, the son of Perley and Edna (Jachobs) Campbell.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
