George E. Charest

PLATTSBURGH — George E. Charest, 80, of Old Station Drive, went home to the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Leominster, Mass., on Sept. 21, 1923, the son of George and Edith J. (Caisse) Charest.

George served in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the invasion of Okinawa.

He married Isabelle (Case) Gilmore on April 26, 1952, in Albany, N.Y.

Mr. Charest was a correction officer at Fishkill Correctional Facility, retiring as a lieutenant in 1982. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and the Free & Accepted Masons in Cold Spring, N.Y.

George enjoyed traveling all over the world with his wife, fishing, working in his garden, helping neighbors and he loved the New York Mets.

Survivors include his wife Isabelle of Chazy; one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Hugh McCullough of Chazy; one granddaughter and her husband, Tina and Clifton Phaneuf of Plattsburgh; two great-grandchildren, Heather and her husband Christopher Beaudette of Plattsburgh and Jason LaFountain and his fiancée Casey Brothers, both of Plattsburgh; and two great-great-grandchildren, Alexander Beaudette and Emily Beaudette.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a grandson, Randy Duquette.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 9 a.m. at Whispering Maples Mausoleum, Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh. Rev. Glen Michaels will officiate.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

AVIS STODDARD, 75, of Edgemont Road, Port Henry, N.Y., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at the Community Hospital, Elizabethtown, N.Y.

She was born Feb. 19, 1929, the daughter of Walter and Emma (Nokes) Merrill.

At her request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Union Cemetery, Moriah, N.Y.

The Harland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Anna I. Roberts, 94, formerly of Brainardsville, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Alice Hyde Nursing Home, Malone, N.Y., where she had been a patient since July 6, 2001.

She was born in Bellmont, N.Y., on Feb. 8, 1910, the daughter of William and Jessie (Vincent) Reynolds.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday in the Chateaugay Funeral Home with funeral services at 3 p.m. with Rev. Eleanor Bellows of Brainardsville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place at Brainardsville Cemetery, Brainardsville.

Charles "Bud" Murray, 73, of Freeman Street, Tupper Lake, died at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004.

He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on Oct. 17, 1930, the son of Earl William and Helen Frances (Fegley) Murray.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Richer Funeral Home, Tupper Lake. Further services and graveside services will be held privately.
