Gerald A. LaPier

KEESEVILLE — Gerald A. LaPier, 83, of Keeseville, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at his home on Front Street.

He was born on June 22, 1921, in West Chazy, N.Y., the son of the late Walter and Margaret (Lucia) LaPier.

He is predeceased by one son, Gerard LaPier; five brothers, Walter LaPier, Bernard LaPier, Francis LaPier, Orville LaPierre and Raymond LaPier; and two sisters, Gertrude LaPier and Margaret Hebert.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine LaPier; and his many loving sons and daughters, Gerald LaPier of Peru, Marshall and Kathy LaPier of Schuyler Falls, Gerry Clesowich of Florida, Tony and Lynda Hart of Connecticut, Keith and Dorla Collins of Chazy, Gisele and Tom Zajac of Schuyler Falls, Frank Brust of Keeseville, Mike and Tammy LaPier of Keeseville, Carol Brust of Maine, John Alteri of Lake George, James Taylor of Connecticut, Earl and Toni Taylor of Keeseville, Judy Taylor of Peru, Rick and Sharron LaPier of Keeseville, Jeanette Taylor of Keeseville, Elaine LaPier of West Chazy and Anna LaPier of Keeseville; two brothers, Edward LaPier and Theodore LaPier and his wife Margaret; two sisters, Eva Sheridan and Audrey Bulriss and her husband Willard; and many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Gerald was a veteran of World War II. He retired after several years of service.

Funeral services will be held at St. Augustine's Church at 11 a.m. today. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy and a reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus in Peru.

Catherine (Newman) Casarella

St. Petersburg, Fla. — Catherine (Newman) Casarella, 96, of St. Petersburg, Fla., widow of Frank G. Casarella, went with the lord, Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, in Florida.

She was born in Hartford, daughter of the late John and Mary (Tracey) Newman and had lived in Florida since 1975.

She was a former communicant of St. Augustine Church.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Roy Anderson of Meriden, Conn., Carol and Bruce Hurley of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Louise an Gilbert Cashman of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Kirsten Anderson, Leonard Anderson and his wife Kelly, Carolyn Armstrong and her husband James and Curt Cashman and his wife Kim; three great-grandchildren, Ian Anderson, Parker Cashman and Grace Armstrong; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday from The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield, Conn., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Ave., Hartford, Conn. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, prior to the funeral from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Garland H. Braisted

MORRISONVILLE — Garland H. Braisted, 85, of Emery Street, Morrisonville, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Whallonsburg, N.Y., on May 1, 1918, the son Harry and Rena (Winslow) Braisted.

Bud went to school in Essex, N.Y. He served one and a half years in the Civilian Conservation Corp. Bud then enlisted in the U.S. Army, while stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, Bud met his future wife, Catherine, they married in 1954. When he served in Germany, Catherine was able to go with him. While in the military he received his GED in 1957. Bud retired in 1958 as Master Sergeant after 20 years of service. He received the Korean Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal with three Loops, the United Nations Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

They moved to Morrisonville, and then to Port Henry, where Bud worked at Seaman Precision. His job took him to Maine and Massachusetts.

In 1981, Bud's lovely wife passed away in Salisbury, Mass. Bud retired and came back to Morrisonville. He was a member of the VFW Post 309 and the American Legion Post 125.

Survivors include a nephew, Harry Foland of Cedar Grove, N.J.; a niece, Pamela Kellar of New Port Richey Fla.; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Albert Cooke and Gerald Braisted; and one sister, Agnes Foland.

A graveside will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery in Willsboro with full military honors.

Arrangements are at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

George N. Fountain, 91, of Paul Smiths, N.Y., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at the Franklin County Nursing Home in Malone, N.Y.

Born in Chasm Falls, N.Y., on Nov. 15, 1912, he was the son of Edmond and Caroline Carrie (Boyer) Fountain.

Visitation will be held at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A bible vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery in Gabriels.
