Paul M. Stata

PLATTSBURGH — Paul M. Stata, 73, of Plattsburgh, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at his home on Cumberland Head.

He was born on Feb. 23, 1931, in Alburg, Vt., the son of the late Cyrus and Leda (Alguire) Stata.

Those that predeceased him were two brothers, Cyrus Stata and Bill Stata.

He is survived by his wife, Myrna Stata; two sons, Mark Stata and his wife Kathy of Cumberland Head and Tim Stata and his wife Carla of Pennsylvania; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, June Judson of Florida.

Paul graduated from Alburg High School and Colorado School of Gunsmithing. He married Myma G. Hazen on July 12, 1952, in St. Amadeus Church in Alburg, Vt.

Paul was veteran of the Korean War and served with the 79th Engineers. He retired after many years in the salvage and recovery business from the Nova Lead Corp. of Morrisonville in 1996.

Calling hours at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh will be on Tuesday, August 31, 2004, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the North Country; FitzPatrick Cancer Center; or the Adirondack Humane Society.

Virginia Lee O’Connor Scott

Austin, Texas — Virginia Lee O'Connor Scott passed away on May 17, 2004, in Austin, Texas, where she had lived with her daughter since 1999.

She was born Sept. 1, 1928, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to B.F. "Frank" and Edna Carver O'Connor of Essex, N.Y. She graduated from Willsboro High School, Willsboro, N.Y., and Plattsburgh Business Institute, Plattsburgh N.Y.

Mrs. Scott worked in the credit office of Montgomery Ward in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and was a personnel manager and training coordinator for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Upon her husband's retirement from the Air Force, they moved to Virginia, where he was a buyer for Brown & Root Construction. They were transferred to Glen Rose, Texas, in 1975 where they made their home.

Mrs. Scott volunteered for 24 years in many Glen Rose organizations and for her church, St. Rose of Lima. In 1999 she was presented with the "Outstanding Older Texan" award. On May 7, 2004, Mrs. Scott participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life in Somervell County, where she was honored as a 54-year cancer survivor. Above all, she will be remembered for bringing joy, warmth, love and laughter to her family and her many, many friends.

Survivors are a daughter, Dianne Scott of Austin, Texas; a niece, Karen Shephard of Washington; and several cousins.

Her husband, Kern L. Scott, preceded her in death in 1992.

A funeral service was held on May 24, 2004, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Glen Rose, Texas. Mrs. Scott was interred alongside her husband in Glen Rose.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Essex, N.Y., with Rev. Delbel officiating.

Mary "Nan" Kirkcaldy

WILMINGTON — Mary "Nan" Kirkcaldy, 97, passed into the arms of the Lord on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown, where she had been a resident since March 27, 1998.

Nan was born in Armonk on June 22, 1907, the daughter of Albert and Lulu (Goodhart) Sarles. She was employed at Woolworths store in White Plains for several years. She was a Sunday school teacher for several years in Pleasantville and she was the oldest of 13 children. She moved here in 1972 to be with her daughter and son-in-law, Babe and Dorothy Adams of Wilmington.

She is survived by a son, David Kirkcaldy of California; a daughter, Dorothy Adams of Wilmington; a sister, Shirley Sarles; two brothers, David Sarles and Richard Sarles. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Carol Gallagher, Phillip Noel, Raymond Noel, Kathy LaMarque, Kelly Adams, Allison Rau, Geoffrey Rau, Cynthia, Diane and Janice Kirkcaldy. Several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Nan was a loving and compassionate mother and grandmother and companion to all. She was predeceased by her husband, David Kirkcaldy; and a daughter, Isabelle Rau.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, and a short prayer service will follow the calling hours.

Burial will be in the family plot beside her husband at the Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.

Memorials to her may be made to Alzheimer’s disease or American Diabetes Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Clarence Roger Miner

West Chazy — Clarence Roger Miner, 52, of the Seymour Road, West Chazy, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center after a short battle with cancer.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 12, 1951, son of Clarence M. and Margaret (Trombley) Miner.

Clarence was a graduate of Beekmantown Central School.

He was employed by Clinton Correctional Facility as a corrections officer. Clarence was an usher at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. He enjoyed country western music and NASCAR.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 34 years, Deborah (Houle) Miner of West Chazy; two children, Paul Miner of West Chazy and Kerri Miner-Sanders and her husband Kevin Sanders of West Chazy; a granddaughter, Sabrena of West Chazy; a very special nephew, John Deyo Jr. of Chazy; several brothers, Carl Miner and his wife Dawn of Mooers, Ricky Miner of Plattsburgh, Ronald Miner and his wife Barbara of Peru and Rodney Miner and his companion Christine of Plattsburgh; a sister, Cathy Miner of Plattsburgh; brothers and sisters-in-law, Linda Deyo, Randy Houle and Maynard Houle; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at 11 a.m. from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Donations in his memory may be made to the James A. FitzPatrick Cancer Center at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

William A. Chauvin

Beekmantown — William A. Chauvin, 78, of Beekmantown, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at his residence.

He was born in Beekmantown on April 23, 1926, the son of James T. and Irene (Kirby) Chauvin.

He was a lifelong resident of the Military Turnpike and operated the family farm for many years. He also was a school bus driver for many years.

He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Chauvin of Plattsburgh and Gerald and Phyllis Chauvin of North Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Bridget of Morrisonville; six nephews and seven nieces.

Three brothers, Harold, Bernard and James; and a sister, Catherine, all died before him.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday from St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

James F. Dupraw

Redford — James F. Dupraw, 69, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at his residence.

He was born in Black Brook on May 2, 1935, the son of Roy and Marguerite (Lafountain) Dupraw.

He was employed as a labor foreman for many years at Northeastern Industries in Plattsburgh.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959.

He was a member of the Church of the Assumption, American Legion Post 1618 in Redford, Laborers Local 186, the NRA and Buckley's Bums Hunting Camp.

He is survived by his mother, Marguerite Dupraw of Meadowbrook Nursing Home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Colleen K. Rock-Kinne and Daniel Kinne of Plattsburgh, Wilma and John Kilburn of Cadyville and Nancy and Wayne Wood of Saranac; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Linda Dupraw of Redford, Mary Lou and Square Dashnaw, Gail and Ron Wood, all of Saranac and Winifred and George Sipe of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Christopher Rock, Ericka and Amanda Kilburn and Kayla Wood; and several nieces and nephews.

His father; and a daughter, Tina Marie Dupraw, died before him.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Church of the Assumption in Redford. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post 1618 in Redford

Eileen Mae (Lyon) Frank, 77, of 23 Jerome Ave., Uncasville, Conn., and formerly of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died on Aug. 24, 2004.

She was born in Hicksville, N.Y., on Feb. 9, 1927, to the late Helen (Naples) Lyon and William H. Lyon.

A service was held on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at an Uncasville Conneticut Funeral Home.

Dennis V. Messeck, 67, of Champlain died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.
