Published: 8/28/04Marion L. GourNewport, Vt. — Mrs. Marion L. Gour, 87, of Newport, died peacefully Aug. 27, 2004, in Newport. Beloved mother of Sister Mary Ann Gour, F.C.S.C.J. of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Patricia Lavery and her husband Raymond of Shelburne, Vt., and Maureen Gour of Shoreham, Vt. Dear grandmother of Nathan Lavery of Washington, D.C., and Kyle Lavery of South Burlington, Vt. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at the Curtis - Britch - Converse - Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Rd., Newport (formerly Sias Ave). Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newport with the Rev. Yvon Royer and Rev. Peter O’Leary concelebrating a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made for Masses or to the Arthritis Foundation, Northern NE Chapter, 2575 Union St., Burlington, VT 05401. John "Jack" DevlinJay — John "Jack" Devlin, 86, of the Glen Road, passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. He was born March 6, 1918, in Jay, the son of Mark A. and Grace (Bartlett) Devlin. Jack graduated from AuSable Forks Central Rural School. He later became employed at the National Commercial Bank & Trust Co. from 1936 to 1960; from 1954 to 1960, he held the position of manager for the above named bank in AuSable Forks. When he retired, he owned and operated the Sport & Gift Shop in Wilmington. Jack was also employed by the AuSable Valley School System as a bus driver and a monitor. He was a past member and commissioner of the Jay Fire Department, past member of the Keeseville Elks Club and past member of the AuSable Forks Rotary Club. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Gary Nelson of Jay; two sons, Mark J. and Thomas Devlin, both of Jay; a daughter-in-law, Adrienne Devlin of AuSable Forks; a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Theresa Devlin of Jay; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rita Wilkins of Lake Placid and Kathleen and James Crowley of Plattsburgh; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Devlin of Wilmington; eight grandchildren, Julia Tromblee, David Nelson, John C. Devlin, Trevor Devlin, Michelle Betters, Nicole Smith. Tracey Fournier and Mark F. Devlin; six great - grandchildren, Kayla Devlin, Alexander Nelson, Brandon Tromblee, Jessen, Tyler and Kathleen Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Those that predeceased him were his wife, Judy Devlin; a son, Francis and a daughter, Kathy Torrance; two brothers, Francis and Robert Devlin; and a sister, Eileen Carron. Calling hours will be Monday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the ZaumetzerSprague Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church in AuSable Forks. Burial will follow in the family plot at Jay Central Cemetery. Memorials to Jack may be made to the AuSable Forks Volunteer Ambulance Service or High Peaks Hospice, Mineville. Lee Joseph Welsh, 36, formerly of Plattsburgh, died Aug. 27, 2004, at the Veteran’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Arrangements are pending. Stephen D. Fifield, 92, of Scottdale, Pa., died Aug. 17, 2004, at the Harmon Convalescent Center, Mt. Pleasant, Pa. He was born June 15, 1912, in New York City, the son of the late Frederick P. and Cora M. (Shutts) Fifield. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert B. Ferguson Funeral Home, Scottdale, Pa., with funeral services held on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Charles Martin officiating. Interment will be private. William J. Pelton, 94, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and formerly of Fall River, Mass., and Chateaugay Lake, N.Y., died Aug. 22, 2004, in Dade City, Fla. At the convenience of the family, his remains will be interred in the family plot in Brainardsville, N.Y., with military honors provided by the Lyon Mountain Legion Post 1623 Firing Squad. The Whitfield Funeral Home, Zephyrhills, Fla., is in charge of arrangements. |
