Jean W. Thwaits

Adams Center — Jean W. Thwaits, 62, of 18402 NYS Route 177, was pronounced dead in the emergency room of the Samaritan Medical Center after being stricken at home Wednesday evening, Aug. 25, 2004.

Mrs. Thwaits was born March 12, 1942, in Black Brook, N.Y., the daughter of Kenneth F. and Bertha (Seymour) Wright.

She graduated from AuSable Forks Central School and attended SUNY, Albany. For several years she worked as a legal secretary in the Essex County District Attorney’s office. After moving to Adams in 1975, she worked as a court stenographer in the Jefferson County Family Court. In 1981 she moved to Adams Center and in the mid-1980’s retired due to disability.

Mrs. Thwaits was a member of the Adams Center Fire Department Auxiliary, a life member of the Vermont Society of Mayflower descendants and was an eleventh generation descendant of Richard Warren. Mrs. Thwaits was also a member of the LeRay de Chaumont Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she was currently chapter librarian and a past vice regent.

Mrs. Thwaits is survived by a son, James E., Adams Center; two brothers, Edward Wright, Laughlin, Nev., and Kenneth Wright, Lake Placid; four sisters, Joy Parker, Lakewood, Fla., Susan Kavanaugh, Clifton Park, N.Y., Gail Wright, Keeseville, N.Y., and Wendy Jensen, El Centro, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.

A marriage to James Thwaits ended in divorce.

She is predeceased by one brother, Randy Wright.

Mrs. Thwaits will be cremated and a visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, 3 College St., AuSable Forks.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Adams Center Fire Department, PO Box 248, Adams Center, NY 13606 of the LeRay de Chaumont Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, c/o Mrs. Heather Stevens, 423 Harris Drive, Watertown, NY 13601.

Clayton Gray

Vero Beach, Fla. — Clayton Gray passed away on Aug. 25, 2004, in Vero Beach, Fla.

He was born in Whitehall, N.Y., on Aug. 26, 1928, the son of Milo and Mary Gray.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lorraine; a daughter Linda of Arlington, Va., and a son Jim of Medford, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Abbey and Robyn Carlson and Michelle and Kevin Gray. Also surviving is a brother Donald of Wilmington, N.C., and a sister Carol Bull of Cadyville.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
