Arthur J. LaPlante

Plattsburgh — Arthur J. LaPlante, 77, of South Acres Road, Plattsburgh, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on May 26, 1927, son of Arthur and Sarah (Mayette) LaPlante.

Arthur was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was an employee of Imperial Paper Mill for 46 years.

Arthur was an avid hunter.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce (Brooks) LaPlante of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Roxanne Bresee and her husband Gary of Saratoga; a son, Larry LaPlante of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Eric, Jamie and Katie Bresee.

Arthur was predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Goss.

Calling hours will be Thursday evening, Aug. 26, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Julius W. Rogoza

VERO BEACH, FLA./ WITHERBEE, N.Y. — Julius W. Rogoza, 84, of Witherbee, N.Y., passed away Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, in Vero Beach, Fla., after a short illness.

He was born in River Rouge, Mich., on Aug. 7, 1920, Julius worked for Republic Steel Corp. at Mineville until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II. A member of The Mineville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5802.

He was a devoted husband, spending many happy days taking trips and spending winter months at his home in Vero Beach, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Angela; five stepchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; eight great-stepgrandchildren; two nephews; one niece; and great nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Kay; his parents; one brother; and one sister.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, 10 a.m. at the Church of All Saints Mineville, N.Y. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice, 1110 37th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

Robert A. Torrance

AuSABLE FORKS — Robert A. Torrance, 95, of Broad Street, passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point, where he had been a resident since April 3, 2004.

He was born in Jay, Aug. 13, 1909, the son of Fred A. and Kathryn (Bissell) Torrance.

Bob served his country during World War II , as a Tech. 5 in the 908th Signal Co. Dep. Avn. from 1942 to 1945. When he returned home after service he purchased several buildings on Forge Street where he started his business, Bobs’ Appliance Store and dealer for Homgas. Also these buildings were used for the Town of Jay AuSable Forks voting polls for many elections. Throughout the years he purchased several wood lots in the area, one which was connected to the Fairview Cemetery Association. Several years ago he transferred this property to the Cemetery Association in memory of his parents. This was much appreciated by the officers of the association.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Mary Currytto of Connecticut and Sandra A. Gilbert of AuSable Forks; a son, Robert F. Torrance of Jay; several grandchildren; a niece, Fredricka Torrance Collins of AuSable Forks; and a cousin, Harold Torrance of Orlando, Fla.

He was predeceased by his ex wife, Delores Calhoun; a brother, Silas Ira Torrance; a sister, Isabelle Torrance.

There were no calling hours and at his request cremation was performed at Whispering Maples Crematory. Graveside services will be held at the family plot at the Jay Central Cemetery, Jay on Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at 11 a.m.

Memorials to him may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home AuSable Forks is in charge of arrangements.

Dianna Rose Elizabeth Boula, infant daughter of Donald William Boula III and Kerrie Ann Stone of Plattsburgh, died on Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born on Aug. 23, 2004.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at St. Augustine’s Cemetery in Peru at 1 p.m.

Arrangements with Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Katherine M. Abbott, 96, a resident of Clifton Park, N.Y., and formally of Lake Placid, N.Y., died Aug. 23, 2004, at Maplewood Manor in Balston Spa.

She was born n Carthage, N.Y., March 19, 1908, the daughter of Roland and Jennie (Haas) Kenyon.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie L. Cavanaugh, 56, of County Route 4, Bombay, died unexpectedly, Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt., where she had been a patient since Sunday.

Born in Massena, N.Y., on Oct. 6, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Leona Mathie Wilson.

Calling hours will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church in Bombay. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
