Published: 8/18/04Philip R. DomeySwanton — Philip R. "Phil" Domey, 84, a lifelong resident of this area passed away, Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, in the Fletcher Allen Health Care facility following a brief illness. He was born in Saint Albans, Vt., Feb. 1, 1920, the son of the late Robert H. and Emma (Willett) Domey. On Sept. 7, 1941, in Saint Albans he married Evelyn Uren who survives him. Phil served in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed for several years by the Central Vermont Railway and retired in 1979 from the F. W. Myers Company in Rouses Point, N.Y., as vice president of operations. More recently he was associated with his son, Geoff in "The Parts Store" in Swanton as vice president. He was a life member of the Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans Association. Phil enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, reading and watching and feeding the birds. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Evelyn of Swanton; three sons, Brian Domey and his wife Judy of Saint Albans, Bob Domey of Swanton and Geoff and Jeanine Domey of Swanton; three sisters, Jane Brigham of Saint Albans, Marion Chaffee of Saint Albans and "Billie" Moffat of Montpelier; six grandchildren, Jason and Christopher Domey of Saint Albans, Baron Domey of Dana Point, Calif., Pamela Stocks and her husband Jeff of Raleigh, N.C., and Cody and Steven Domey of Swanton; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Aiden Stocks. In addition to his parents, Phil was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela Jane Domey in 1957; two sisters, Priscilla Pelton and Martha Collins; and a brother, Robert Domey. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses of McClure 3 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care facility for the care Phil received. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, Saint Albans. Interment will follow in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery in Saint Albans. Phil's family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. WolfeLongboat Key, Fla. — Louis Evans Wolfe, 71, of Longboat Key, former New York State Assemblyman and Founder of Empire State Games died Aug. 17, 2004. He was born July 14, 1933, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and moved to Longboat Key after retiring in 1998. Mr. Wolfe was a graduate of Cornell University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1955 and his law degree in 1957. He practiced law in Plattsburgh and was admitted and practiced in the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals of the State of New York. He was admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and the U.S. District Court of the State of Vermont, as well as the Second Circuit Court of Appeals of the United States. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the New York State Bar Association. Mr. Wolfe was in public service throughout his life. He was the town attorney for the Town of Plattsburgh and was elected to the New York State Legislature as a Democrat in 1964 where he served as Assemblyman for three terms. He also served as the City Judge for the City of Plattsburgh. In 1976, he was appointed Chairman of the New York State Commission on Sports and Winter Olympics by Governor Hugh Carey. In that role, he founded the Empire State Games, a statewide Olympic-style amateur athletic competition. It was the first of its kind in the nation and his been replicated by more than 30 states, including Florida's Sunshine Games. Other appointments include County Attorney of Clinton County, New York, and Chairman of the College Council of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. He was elected a member of the City of Plattsburgh School Board. In April 2004, he was elected to serve as a delegate for the 13th Congressional District of Florida at the National Democratic Convention. In addition to practicing law, Mr. Wolfe developed and continued to operate residential and commercial real estate in upstate New York. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Zena; and four children, Ilyse Tretter of Scarsdale, N.Y., Jill Roberts of Waban, Mass., David Wolfe of Tampa, Fla., and Adam Wolfe of Tampa, Fla. He is also survived by six grandchildren; and a sister, Cecil Ressler of Hartsdale, N.Y. Services and burial will be private. Everleth, 76, of the Conners Road, Peru, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. John Cymbrak, 78, of 23 Hillsdale Terrace, Malone, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center. He was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Auburn, N.Y., the son of Peter and Justina (Solomon) Cymbrak. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Aug. 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church. Burial will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery with full military honors. |
