James A. Badger

Ticonderoga — James A. Badger, 93, of Calkins Place, passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga.

Born in Malone, Dec. 30, 1910, he was the son of the late John P. Badger Jr. and Marian (Manville) Badger.

Mr. Badger was a graduate of the American Academy of Funeral Directing in New York City. He had been a resident of Ticonderoga since 1937.

Turned down for enlistment in World War II because of hearing problems, he moved his family to Buffalo. He then went to work for CurtisWright Aircraft inspecting airplanes for the war effort.

He returned to Ticonderoga in 1947 and was employed as a funeral director for many years by Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Cross of Ticonderoga and served as senior warden of the church and superintendent of Sunday School.

He was also a member of the Mount Defiance Lodge 794 Free & Accepted Masons of Ticonderoga for many years. He was a life member of the Northern Constellation Lodge 291, Free & Accepted Masons of Malone, N.Y. He served as Master of the Lodge in 1944.

Jim was very active in the Ticonderoga community. He was instrumental in the creation of the Ticonderoga public beach and also in raising taxpayer’s awareness to purchase textbooks for Ticonderoga students. He also helped organize Little League in Ticonderoga.

He performed as "Regdab the Magician" to raise funds for many youth and school groups in the area. He was an accomplished amateur magician. When he was growing up in Malone, he met many of the well-known magicians of the day who visited his parents. He also attended conventions of the American Association of Magicians with his father, where he met Houdini, Blackstone and Thurston.

He was a member of the Board of Directors and a participant of the Indian Pageant which was held at the Forest Theater in Ticonderoga for many years.

He enjoyed gardening — both flowers and vegetables.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Henrietta W. Badger, on Feb. 14, 2002. They were married on Jan. 5, 1932. He was also predeceased by his youngest daughter, Dorcas Liberty on Aug. 18, 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Rice of Talbott, Tenn., and Marcia Badger of Paul Smiths, N.Y.; he is also survived by nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga. A Requiem Eucharistic Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Cross of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Marjorie Floor, rector, will officiate.

Interment will follow at the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

Roy "Skinny" Harris

Putnam Station — Roy "Skinny" Harris, 74, of Liddle Harris Road, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at his residence.

Born in Putnam Station, Feb. 4, 1930, he was the son of the late Roy W. and Anna (Blair) Harris.

Mr. Harris was a lifelong resident of Putnam Station.

Years ago, he farmed on his family's land in Putnam Station and he also worked for International Paper Company of Ticonderoga. Most recently, he was an independent truck driver working for various businesses in the area. He retired from New York State Department of Corrections where he was employed as a tractor-trailer driver for 17 years.

Mr. Harris was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 1494 of Ticonderoga. He was an avid hunter and he looked forward to spending his winters in Hernando, Fla.

He was predeceased by one brother, Jim Harris; and two sisters, Betty Whitney and Lois Shea.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marie M. (Gregory) Harris; one daughter, Diane M. Hart and her husband Kevin; three sons, Gregory R. Harris and his wife Roxanne, Daniel J. Harris and his wife Mary and Todd B. Harris and his wife Tami, all of Putnam Station; and one sister, Kathleen Baker of Saratoga. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service.

A graveside service will take place Monday at 11 a.m. at the family plot of the Meadow Knoll Cemetery of Putnam Station. The Rev. Floyd Freed will officiate.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Washington County Hospice and Donna Backus.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga.

Susanne J. Sample

CHAMPLAIN — Susanne J. Sample, 58, of Champlain, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2004.

She was born Nov. 16, 1945, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the daughter of Harold Bocare and Lucienne Bechard.

She attended local schools and trade school for hairdressing. She operated Susanne’s Beauty Shop and was employed as a deli clerk at TOPS supermarket in Champlain.

She is survived by two daughters, Shawna Sample-Garcia and her husband Steven of Weare, N.H., and Sara Sample-Dupee and her husband Larry of Rouses Point; a grandchild, Noah J. Dupee; a sister, Ann LaPierre and her husband Paul of Chazy; a stepmother, Magella Bocare of Plattsburgh; a stepbrother, David Coonan of Rouses Point; and a stepsister, Ann Keddy and her husband Donald of Rouses Point.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at St. Mary's Church in Champlain at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Coopersville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Champlain Fire Department.

Arrangements are with the M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.

Edwin S. Zmudzinski

Edwin S. Zmudzinski passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004.

Beloved husband of Jane (Boire) Zmudzinski; loving father of Donna Caroll (husband Michael), Ellen Markham (husband John) and Gina Nairn (husband Terry); loving grandfather of Brian, Jeffrey, Patrick and Sara Carroll, Kristin, Daniel, John and Kelli Markham and Zachary, Andrew and Taylor Nairn. Also survived by two sisters, Adele Dent and Irene Osheski; and a brother, Henry Zmudzinski.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain, N.Y., on Monday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Mass cards be offered in his memory.

Arrangements are with the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.

Raymond M. Roland

Plattsburgh — Raymond M. Roland, 87, of Lorriane Street, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Ohio on June 8, 1917, son of Amos and Lillian (Spangler) Roland.

Raymond attended Cohoes High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Raymond was employed as a bank officer. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh.

Raymond is survived by one daughter, Marla R. Howell of Plattsburgh; three sons and their wives, R. Wayne Roland and Arlene of Beaver Creek, Ohio, David A. Roland and Marcia of Stafford, Va., and Richard D. Roland and Debra of Red Hill, Pa.; daughter-in-law Paula Roland of Plattsburgh; seven grandchildren, David A. Howell, U.S. Army (Catherine), E. Craig Howell of Albany (Takaho), Kendra L. Roland of Stafford, Va., Brianne E. Roland of Stafford, Va., Jeffrey R. Roland of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Rachel A. Roland of Plattsburgh and Amber L. Roland of Red Hill, Pa.; a great-grandson, Christopher T. Howell of Fort Riley, Kan.; three sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Raymond was predeceased by his wife, Margaret R. Roland, in 1990.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will continue on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Dufresne Funeral Home in Cohoes. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Dufresne Funeral Home in Cohoes. Burial will follow in Memory's Garden Cemetery in Albany.

Donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Stephen Joseph Shemet, 92, died Aug. 4, 2004.

Mr. Shemet was born Dec. 25, 1911, in Mineville, N.Y., to Louis Shemet and Anna (Junakalis) Shemet.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Georgia, 404-355-7627.

Patricia Ann Mitchell, 60, of Robinson Road, Plattsburgh, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2004, at the home of her brother.

She was born in Mineola on Aug. 12, 1943, daughter of the late Henry T. and Elizabeth M. (Boles) Sabourin.

At her request there will be no public funeral services.

Arrangements with Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A full obituary will appear in the Plattsburgh Press-Republican.

Reginald G. "Reggie" Snide, 68, died July 19, 2004, in Wichita, Kan., after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Mooers Forks, the son of the late Frank and Eldora (DeCoste) Snide.

A Mass of Christian burial and interment was held in Wichita, Kan.
