Published: 8/3/04Walter A. ChapukClaremont, Calif. — Walter A. Chapuk, 84, of Claremont, Calif., died July 29, 2004, at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Mr. Chapuk was born July 27, 1920, in Witherbee, N.Y., and has resided in Claremont for the past 50 years. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran and had graduated from the University of Missouri School of Mining. Mr. Chapuk was predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Joseph Chapuk. He is survived by his brothers, Martin of Moriah, N.Y., and John of Binghamton, N.Y.; and his nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Claremont, Calif., on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at 8:15 a.m. Interment will be made in the Moriah Cemetery, Moriah, N.Y. Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 N. Garey Avenue, Pomona, CA 91767, is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy W. BrennanPlattsburgh — Dorothy W. Brennan, 101, of Plattsburgh, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Meadowbrook Healthcare. She was born March 18, 1903, in Cardinal, Ontario Canada. She was the daughter of Edward Boyer and Eleanor (Flynn) Boyer. She was married to Chauncey J. Brennan who preceded her in death in 1981. She had three brothers and two sisters, all deceased. One daughter, Rosemarie Clark who preceded her in death in 2003. She is survived by her son, Robert and his wife Betty of Plattsburgh, four grandchildren, Christine Brennan of Maryland, Shawn Clark and Timothy Clark of Plattsburgh and Kim Maclean and her husband John of Sommerville, Mass.; two great-grandchildren, Kevin and Kelly; and one son-in-law, William Clark of Plattsburgh. Dorothy was a member of St. John's Parish and St. John's Altar and Rosary Society. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Kathryn F. JonesLake Placid — Kathryn F. Jones, 82, of Mirror Lake Drive, Lake Placid died at home with her family by her side after a brief illness. She was born in Lake Placid, June 13, 1922, the daughter of Frederick J. Fortune and Eleanor Dale Fortune She and her husband, David W. Jones owned and operated Adirondack Photo Service in Lake Placid for many years. After his death in 1968, she maintained the business until 1971 at which time, she was manager of Schmitt Sales Inc., better known locally as Robo. After her retirement she also owned and operated Country Cousin Antiques. Kay’s true loves of life were her family, entertaining, bobsledding, photography and golf. In her early years, she was an avid horsewoman and skier. Her love of the sport of bobsledding also blossomed early, as many family members were active participants from the 1930’s through the 1970’s. Kay’s photography skills were honed at Mount VanHovenberg, where, for decades, her big smile, warm heart, pin covered hat and fur coat were a permanent fixture at Zig-Zag curve. This is where the competitors and bob-run crew affectionately dubbed her, "Mrs. Zag". Many of her photos were published worldwide. During World War II, she was executive secretary of the Town of North Elba War Ration Board. Kay was also very active in the Craig Wood Golf Association, a past ,member of the Town of North Elba/Village of Lake Placid Historical Society Board of Directors, the Lake Placid High School Alumni Association and a member of St. Agnes Church. She is survived by her six children, George, Peggy and David Jones, Barbara Benware and Kathryn O’Connor, all of Lake Placid and Maura Jones of Hanover, N.H.; four grandchildren, Olivia and Genevieve Benware, David Jones III and Kathryn Jones-McQuillian. Also surviving are two sisters and their husbands, Betty Bradley of Melbourne Fla., and Patricia Mills of Middletown, N.Y.; and dozens of nieces and nephews. Kathryn was predeceased by two brothers, George H. Fortune and Frederick J. Fortune Jr.; and a sister, Eleanor Fortune Staves. The family will be receiving friends at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004. A Mass in celebration of Kay's life will be held at St. Agnes Church on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to High Peaks Hospice, PO Box 840, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. Claude LavoieCHAMPLAIN — Claude Lavoie was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Nov. 21, 1925. He passed on, on the first of August, 2004, from a long struggle with M.S. He was the son of the late Paul and Laura (Hinerth) Lavoie of Champlain. Claude graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1944. Then following he volunteered and joined the Army Air Corp. for pilot training for 3 years. Upon his return in 1946, he married Oreina Remiland at St. Mary's Church in Champlain. After 53 years of marriage he was predeceased by his wife in January 1999. Throughout his life he was involved in many organizations and served for his community. Claude was the first Grand Knight of Council 3525 of Champlain for the Knights of Columbus and was also a fourth degree member of the Knights from Plattsburgh Assembly. In addition, he was a 50 year member of the American Legion and a member of the Plattsburgh Lodge of Elks. In 1958 he was elected Justice of the Peace for the Town of Champlain for a four-year term. During his lifetime, Claude worked for the Plattsburgh National Bank, owned and operated his own hardware and appliance store and worked at Champlain Valley Federal Savings and Loan Bank. Then there after he retired from Harris Corporation in 1974 due to the continuing disease process of MS. Claude is survived by an uncle, Ernest Lavoie; and cousins, Raymond and Stanley Lavoie, Berna Badger and Donna Carpenter, and their children. There will be no calling hours. Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery on Prospect Street, Champlain. In his memory donations may be made to the Champlain Rescue Squad. Arrangements are with the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. Ardyce A. WareWestport — Ardyce A. "Andy" Ware, 85, of Fire Fly Lane, Westport, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown. She was born in Havelock, Neb., Jan. 2, 1919, the daughter of William C. and Minnie M. (Brockmann) Andrews. Andy was served in the United States Army as a nurse. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Survivors include her husband, Thornton K. "Tony" Ware of Westport; her children, Patricia Ware of East Thetford, Vt., Stephen Ware of Sycamore, Ill., and Bruce Ware of Westport; two beloved grandchildren, Alan and Madeline Ware; one brother, Quyntin Andrews of Sheboygan, Wis.; and seven beloved grand-dogs. She was predeceased by a son, Roger Ware; two brothers, Wayne and Doyll Andrews; and a sister, Awyn. A memorial service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Westport Federated Church. Burial will be held at a later date in the St. Charles Township Cemetery in St. Charles, Ill. Donations in her memory may be made to the Westport Library. Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport. Joan L. PontiusWestport — Joan L. Pontius, 77, of the Worman Road, Westport, and Victoria Drive, Hilton Head, S.C., died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Nunda, N.Y., Nov. 10, 1926, the daughter of John D. and Marion (Graves) Lindsay. She was a graduate of New Trier High School in Wilmette, Ill., and the University of Michigan with a bachelors degree. Joan and her husband lived in Liberia, Africa during their early years of marriage. She just finished her memoir of those years. She enjoyed playing golf and tennis and very much loved spending time with family. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Miller H. and Lydia Pontius of Charleston, S.C., John. S. Pontius and his companion, Mary Ann Furjanic of Beaufort, S.C., and David L. and Lisa Pontius of Winter Park, Fla.; one daughter, Lindsay T. Pontius of Westport; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John G. and Nancy Lindsay of Pittsfield, Mass., and Naples, Fla., and Eugene A. and Kathleen Lindsay of Chicago, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, David T. Pontius; and a brother, George Lindsay. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Camp Dudley Chapel in Westport. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Black River Cemetery in Westport. Donations in her memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport. Ruth Lacy LordROCHERSTER — Ruth Lacy Lord died July 31, 2004, in Rochester. Mrs. Lord was a graduate of Keeseville High School and Plattsburgh State University. She began her teaching career in Potsdam. Her husband Col. Nicholas A. Lord, predeceased her. She is survived be her son, Charles (Natasha) Lord of Virginia; daughters, Marguerite Lord of Rochester and Mary Jane Lord of Florida; a brother, Peter (Connie) Lacy of Keeseville; sisters, Virginia (Jack) Egan of Albany, Martha Lacy of Albany, Betty Poselovic of Florida and Pat Falco of Maryland; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alexandra Smith and Lacy and Charles Cox; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville, Interment will be in Ogdensburg. Charles A. McKinney IICHAZY — Charles A. McKinney II, 51, of the Ratta Road, Chazy, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at his home. He was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 20, 1952, the son of Charles and Rose (Borrie) McKinney. Charles married the former Carol Menard on May 11, 1984. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Chazy Musical Theater and a former member of the Champlain Fire Department. Charles worked as a electrical/mechanical engineer for IBM in Burlington, Vt., for 21 years and for Wyeth in Rouses Point for 10 years. Survivors include his wife, Carol McKinney of Chazy; three sons, Christopher Garrand and his wife Kathleen of Kingston, N.Y., Charles A. McKinney III of Chazy and Nathan F. McKinney of Chazy; two daughters, Danielle Rovers and her husband Lance of Chazy and Eliza J. McKinney of Schuylerville, N.Y.; one sister, June Thomas of Dannemora; one grandson, Dayton Rovers of Chazy; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Anna Coley NeddoTiconderoga/Whitehall — Anna Coley Neddo, 88, of Whitehall and Ticonderoga, passed away Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the Glens Falls Hospital. Born in Ticonderoga, May 10, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Pauline Coley. Mrs. Neddo lived most of her life in Ticonderoga. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. She worked as a waitress for a few years and then she worked at International Paper Company of Ticonderoga for 20 years. She loved bingo, fishing, picking walnuts and blueberries. She was totally dedicated to her two daughters, Joan Peterson and Paula Carr. She was predeceased by two sisters and six brothers; and her long time friend, Faith Stover. Survivors include her two daughters, Paula Carr of Saratoga Springs and Joan Peterson and her husband Don of Whitehall; five grandchildren, Mark Peterson of North Carolina, Debbie Smith of Granville, Glenn Peterson of Whitehall, Todd Carr of Saratoga Springs and Pam Carr of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, Jeromy and Joshua Smith of Granville, Justin Charpentier, also of Granville, Lynnae, Kristin and Jessica Peterson of New Jersey, Devin and Paxton Peterson of Whitehall and Justin and Heather McMurtry of Mineville. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin Street, Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. Paul Titherington, 44, of Cumberland Head Road, Plattsburgh, died on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Liverpool, England on Jan. 17, 1960, son of Geoffrey and Winifred (Bums) Titherington. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. John A. Boyd, 68, of James Street, Saranac Lake, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Adirondack Medical Center. Born in Enid, Okla., on April 19, 1936, he was the son of Ted and Thelma (Bristow) Boyd. Calling hours will be held at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Linda McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Lake Clear. Delphine Bessie Rolloy, 89, of LeBoeuf Street, Tupper Lake, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, under the care of her family and High Peaks Hospice. She was born Oct. 26, 1914, Skerry, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Matilda (Parizo) Luman. Calling hours will be held at the Richer Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Holy Name Church with Father Kris Lauson officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery. Anthony Cioppa, of Willsboro, N.Y., died at CVPH Medical Center Monday, Aug. 2, 2004. He was born in Ticonderoga, N.Y., Aug., 3, 1925, the son of Atimo and Theresa (Criscione) Della Cioppa. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. An obituary will be in tomorrow's Press-Republican. She was born in Lake Placid, Dec. 3, 1921, the daughter of James and Dorothy (Kennedy) Mulvey. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid with Rev. Mark Demers, pastor, officiating. Burial was private in the family plot in the North Elba Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. Lawrence Ronald Lyon, 76, formerly of Ticonderoga, died Jan. 3, 2004, in Austin, Texas. He was born March 21, 1927 in Edinborough, Scotland. A Requiem Eucharistic Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Cross of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Marjorie Floor, Rector, will officiate. Interment will follow at the family plot of the Meadow Knoll Cemetery of Putnam Station. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga. |
