Published: 8/2/04Albert E. BatchelderCROWN POINT — Albert E. Batchelder, 82, of Main Street, Crown Point, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at the Interlakes Nursing Home in Ticonderoga. He was born in Hornell on April 2, 1922, the son of Leonard and Elsie (Ellis) Batchelder. After graduating high school, Albert entered the Army Air Force in 1942 where he served in the China-Burma-India theater of World War II. In 1947 he married Rachel Murray and they resided in Elmira while he attended veterans school for aircraft and engine repair. He began work at Robinson Airlines which ultimately became U.S. Airways. He retired in 1982 in Boston, Mass. He lived in Clinton from 1957 to 1974 where he was an active member of the Methodist Church. He was also a member and past president of the Lions Club and served as assistant scout master during that period. He and his wife moved to Crown Point in 1983 where they have since resided. During his years in Crown Point, he was an energetic contributor to various projects in the Methodist Church. He served on the council board for a number of years until poor health forced a reduction in his activities. In addition to his wife Rachel, he is survived by a son, Eric L. Batchelder of Phoenix, Ariz.; his daughter, Jeris, and her husband, Dale French, of Crown Point; three grandsons, Eric R. Batchelder, Matthew Batchelder and Andrew Batchelder; two great-grandsons, Calvin and Alec Arno and their father, Alan Arno. He was predeceased by his two granddaughters, Rebecca French Arno and Shana French in 2001. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Crown Point Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Crown Point. Memorial contributions may be made in Albert’s name to the Crown Point Methodist Church or to the Salvation Army. Ruth L. LordROCHESTER — Ruth L. Lord died July 31, 2004, in Rochester. Mrs. Lord was a graduate of Keeseville High School and Plattsburgh State University. She began her teaching career in Potsdam. Her husband, Col. Nicholas A. Lord, predeceased her. She is survived by her son, Charles (Natasha) Lord of Virginia; daughters Marguerite Lord of Rochester and Mary Jane Lord of Florida; a brother, Peter (Connie) Lacy of Keeseville; sisters Virginia (Jack) Egan of Albany, Martha Lacy of Albany Betty Poselovic of Florida and Pat Falco of Maryland; grandchildren Elizabeth and Alexandra Lord, Caitlin and Alexander Smith and Lacy and Charlie Cox; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville. Interment will be in Ogdensburg. Elsie R. EwingPLATTSBURGH — Mrs. Elsie R. "Tootsie" Ewing, 93, of Monty Street passed away Saturday, July 31, 2004 at CVPH Medical Center with her family at her side. She was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 10, 1911, the daughter of Matthew and Matilda (McDonald) Twining. Tootsie was a graduate of Our Lady of Victory Academy and she had worked at the Old Clinton County Nursing Home. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church. Tootsie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Henry "Lucky" Ewing; a son, Robert Ewing; and a brother, Noble "Bud" Twining. She is survived by a son, Ronald W. Ewing of Plattsburgh; a foster son, David Mesic of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Fitzgerald of Plattsburgh and Dorothy "Dot" Siddon of Keeseville; a grandson, Scott Ewing and his fiancé, Susie Paiser of Plattsburgh; a niece, Sheila Siddon of Keeseville; two nephews, Wayne Twining of Valcour and Rick Siddon of Peru. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 at 10 a.m. from Our lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Gilles Hector MailleMORRISONVILLE — Gilles Hector Maille, 62, of Mason Street, died peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in New Liskard, Ontario on Nov. 11, 1941. Gilles was a printer, meat cutter and store owner. He had been employed by the Press Republican, Ma and Pa’s Grocery, O’Neil’s Packing, Grand Union and Big M in Plattsburgh. He was the son of the late Henri and Jeanne (Cote) Maille. He graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy in 1966. Gilles is survived by his spouse of 36 years, Linda (Torrance) Maille; their daughters, Dawn and Andy Finney, Laurie and Brian LaPointe, Kimberly and Frank Coolidge, Nicole Maille; their grandchildren, Andrew Maille, Joshua Stuart, Adam Stuart, Sky LaPointe, Kinson LaPointe, Ariana Coolidge, Aiden Coolidge, Alisha Finney; his brothers, Richard and Claudette Maille, and Andre and Rejeanne Maille; his sister, Terry Maille; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clifton and Addie Torrance, his brother-in-law, Clifton and Joan Torrance Jr.; his sisters-in-law, Stella Torrance and her companion, Jeff Pescia, and Teresa Torrance; and many nieces and nephews. Gilles was pre-deceased by his son, Shawn Maille; his brother, Hubert Maille; and his parents, Henri and Jeanne Maille. Gilles became a U.S. citizen in 1982. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed hockey. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor Claude Gobet Council in Morrisonville. Gilles enjoyed spending time with his family and going on vacation. Calling hours will be on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 at 11 a.m. from St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville. Following cremation, burial will be in St. Alexander’s Cemetery in Morrisonville. Albert John SharronPLATTSBURGH — Albert John "Jack" Sharron, 73, of Flynn Avenue, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at Mercy Health Care in Tupper Lake. He was born on Sept. 7, 1930, the son of Albert H. and Marian (Hart) Sharron. Albert was a general insurance agent employed by Sharron and Hart. He was formerly a member of the Plattsburgh Elks Lodge. Albert enjoyed reading, sports and doing crossword puzzles. Albert is survived by his daughters, Mary S. Huckeba and her husband, Miles, of Schuyler Falls, and Patricia J. Hahn and her husband, Chuck, of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jason J. Huckeba and his wife, Kimberlee, and their daughter, Rebecca, of Cary, N.C., and Jeri Hebert and her husband, Maurice, and their son, Jonathan, of Morrisonville. Albert was predeceased by a son, A. Steven Sharron. At Albert’s request, there will be no calling hours or public funeral services. Arrangements are with Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. DOROTHY R. FOLEY, 70, of 50 Baker St., Saranac Lake, and formerly of 16 Lake St., Tupper Lake, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center. Born June 23, 1934 in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of Richard and Lillian (LaPaige) Sovay. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will immediately follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Following cremation, burial will take place at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake. JOAN L. PONTIUS, 77, of Worman Road, Westport, and Hilton Head, S.C., died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport. F. ELDON WADDELL, 88, formerly of Burke, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Franklin County Nursing Home in Malone, where he had been a patient since Sept. 4, 2002. Born in Burke on May 4, 1916, he was the son of Henry and Etta (Guyotte) Waddell. Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m. on Wednesday with a memorial service following in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tom Davis officiating. Burial will take place in the Burke Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Burke Fire and Rescue Squad. |
