Eddie Howard Baker

Plattsburgh — Eddie Howard Baker, 62, of Maryland Road, Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully, Monday, July 26, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington, Vt., surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness.

He was born in Harkness, Dec. 23, 1941, the son of Howard and Dorothy (Craig) Baker.

Eddie was a graduate of Keeseville Central School, class of 1960.

He served in the United States Navy as a construction electrician from 1960 to 1964.

He graduated from Plattsburgh State University with a Masters in Education and CAS in Administration.

He retired from the Plattsburgh City School District following 25 years of service.

Eddie dedicated his life to helping others, children, friends and strangers. Be it in the classroom, on a computer or on the golf course.

He enjoyed ham radio, photography, bowling and golf.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Mary Lou (Aloi) Baker of Plattsburgh; his mother, Dorothy (Craig) Baker of Keeseville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Ron Allen of Peru, Ginger and Robert Johnson of Plattsburgh and Donna and David Torraca of Leesburg, Va.; and several aunts; uncles; cousins; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father; and two brothers, Michael and Richard Baker.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with Rev. Sally White, pastor, of the Keeseville and Harkness United Methodist Churches, officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a scholarship fund to be established in his memory to assist students interested in computer technology.

Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

Irene A. Lancto

Morrisonville — Mrs. Irene A. Lancto, 95, formerly of Chateaugay and most recently of Morrisonville passed away Monday, July 26, 2004, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Chateaugay, N.Y., on March 11, 1909, the daughter of George and Alzeda (LaCount) Ploof.

Irene was a graduate of Chateaugay High School. She married Herbert Lancto at St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay on Nov. 12, 1929.

Irene worked at Chateaugay Central School in food service from 1961 until her retirement in 1979. While living in Chateaugay, Irene was a member of St. Patrick's Church. She has since made her home with her daughter, Veronica Plummer in Morrisonville and was a member of St. James Church in Cadyville.

Irene was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Herbert; a daughter, Kathleen; a son, Gordon; a granddaughter, Terry; and a brother, George.

She is survived by three sons, Roger R. Lancto of Champlain, N.Y., Donald E. Lancto and his wife Lita of Belgrade, Mont., and Richard L. Lancto and his wife Mary of Cadyville; three daughters, Veronica "Bonnie" Plummer and her husband Donald "Bill" of Morrisonville, Gloria LaClair and her husband Victor of Plattsburgh and Carol Dufrane of Moira, N.Y.; a sister, Leona Patnode of Mineville; a daughter-in-law, Karen Lancto of Steadman, N.C.; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Park Row, Cadyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 12 noon from St. James Minor Church in Cadyville. Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Chateaugay.

Helen M. Matott

ROUSES POINT — Helen M. Matott, 102, of Cedar Hedge in Rouses Point and formerly of 36 Pine Street in Champlain, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2004.

Helen was born in Hemingsford, Quebec, on Jan. 29, 1902, daughter of George and Valerie (Bourdeau) Boulerice.

Helen was a homemaker who enjoyed her large family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kindness and her great sense of humor. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Champlain.

Survivors include two daughters, Lillian Corcoran of Rouses Point and Shirley Brothers and her husband Orville of Plattsburgh; two sons, Joseph R. and his wife Shirley of West Chazy and Henry and his wife Isabelle of Mooers; also daughters-in- law, Shirley Matott of Castleton, N.Y., and Lena Matott of Rouses Point. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Landry of St. Remie, Quebec; and several nieces and nephews. Helen also leaves behind lifelong friend, Rita Roberts of Champlain; and good friend and neighbor, Russel Lafountain.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Harvey in 1972; sons, Marcel in 1977 and Charles in 1995; grandson, Michael Brothers in 1993; and great-granddaughter, Makenna Hope Corcoran in June of 2004; two sons-in-law, Robert Christiana in 1963 and William Corcoran in 1996; brothers, Henry, Ernest and Leo; and sisters, Angeline Cusson and Jane (Carte) Sears.

Calling hours will be held at M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain on Friday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Champlain on Saturday at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus hall following the burial service.

Memorial donations in Helen’s memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country or Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

Helen’s family wishes to recognize and thank the entire staff at Cedar Hedge for their loving care and compassion that she received while she was a resident there.

Shirley M. Moses

Ticonderoga — Shirley M. (Greenough) Moses, 76, of Third Avenue, Ticonderoga, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga.

Born in North Hudson, Jan. 9, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Glen and Mabel (Trudeau) Greenough.

Mrs. Moses was a resident of Ticonderoga for most of her life. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga and a member of the Catholic Daughters, Court of St. Mary's 794.

She was employed in the local schools of Ticonderoga for 25 years, working as a cook for St. Mary's Catholic School and Ticonderoga High School and retiring in 1984 from the Ticonderoga Middle School as head baker.

Survivors include her husband, LeRoy F. Moses; one son, Ronald L. Moses and his wife Kathy of New Albany, Ohio; one daughter, Karen Sheehan and her husband John of Ticonderoga; one sister, Joyce Fellio and her husband John of Ticonderoga; and one brother, Glen Greenough and his wife Mary Lou of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Ticonderoga Emergency Squad, 1 Depot Street, Ticonderoga, NY 12883.

Laurie Jean Mesick, 40, of Ashley Road, Plattsburgh, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at her home.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 26, 1964, daughter of Francis and Bonita (Sharlaw) Kirby.

Calling hours will be Friday from 12 noon to 1:45 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Cemetery.
