Shon Lilledahl

Burke, N.Y. — Mr. Shon Lilledahl, 68, of Trout River Road, Burke, N.Y., passed away Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in St. Paul, Minn., on Jan. 13, 1936, the son of Ray and Carolyn (Edenbo) Lilledahl.

Shon had served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957.

He and his wife Rosa started the Plattsburgh Free Trader in 1981 and owned and operated it until it was sold to Alexander Media Group in 1989.

Shon assisted in coaching hockey at St. John’s School and later Seton Catholic from 1984 to 1989. Along with the 1987 State Champion Ice Hockey Team, he was inducted into the New York State High School Hockey Hall of Fame in Lake Placid. Shon enjoyed ice hockey, golf, fishing, gardening, he also bred and raised horses.

Shon was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Dan Lilledahl; two children who died in infancy, David and Vernon Thomas.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years Rosa (Maldonado) Lilledahl of Burke; his children, Shon Lilledahl and his wife Julie of Cadyville, Tony Lilledahl of Plattsburgh, Wayne Lilledahl and his wife Denise of Los Banos, Calif., Laura McQueeney and her husband Mike of Boulder, Colo., Terry Lilledahl formerly of Bolder, Colo. and most recently Burke, N.Y., Verna Mary Lilledahl of Felton, Calif., Doug Dougherty and a daughter Nancy of California; 10 grandchildren, Shon, Jacob, Skylar, Corbin, Philip, Lauren, Taylor, Trevor, Melisa and Alexander; one great-grandchild, Christopher; two brothers, Roy Lilledahl and his wife Sharon of Omaha, Neb., Mark Lilledahl of Minnesota; two sisters, Lilly Hardina and her husband Damon of Minnesota and Susie Aune and her husband Tom of Minnesota; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel.

Friends wishing may make donations to the American Cancer Society.

Neil Locke

PLATTSBURGH — Neil Locke, 93, passed away at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh on Saturday, July 24, 2004, after a long and active life.

Neil was a long time participant in the Sunmount Family Care Program. He lived with Ms. Melissa Provost in her home since 1993. Neil also attended the Third Age Program at Sibley Hall in Plattsburgh, enjoying all the program had to offer.

Neil Locke is survived by Melissa Provost; her three children, Christine, Jennifer and Hannah; as well as a good friend, George Weidle. He is also survived by cousins, Ralph and Bob Barton of Indian Lake and many, many friends.

Neil was known for his great spirit and his need to be independent and active. His wish was to live his life each day to the fullest which he accomplished. He will be missed by all his friends at the Third Age Program and by his family at the Provosts.

Arrangements are with the Fortune-Keogh Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.

Jean I. Stone

PLATTSBURGH — Jean I. Stone, 61, of West Hill Road, Plattsburgh, died after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center surrounded by her family.

She was born in Buffalo on July 17, 1943, the daughter of Clayton and Doris (Owens) Annis.

Jean married Clayton R. Stone on Dec. 17, 1978, in Beekmantown, N.Y.

Mrs. Stone was a member of St. Peter’s Church, the VFW Post 125 Women’s Auxiliary, many bowling leagues and was an avid bingo player. Jean enjoyed crocheting and fishing. She also loved her two dogs, "Babe" and "Gismo". Mrs. Stone worked for Chazy Orchards and later for H.L. Green for 23 years until it closed.

Survivors include her husband, Clayton Stone of Plattsburgh; her mother, Doris Ryan of Plattsburgh; three sons, Robert Stone Jr. and his wife Sharlene, Terry Stone and his wife Holly and Charlie Stone and his wife Barb, all of Plattsburgh; seven daughters, Pamala Stone of Plattsburgh, Mary Ann Dowler and her companion Richard LaTour of Plattsburgh, Sheila Rock of Morrisonville, Mrs. Louis (Charlene) Bombardier of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Corey (Mona) Forett of Plattsburgh, Mrs. David (Elaine) Pellerin of Plattsburgh and Mrs. Tim (Lynda) Bosley of Schaghticoke, N.Y.; three sisters, Doris Leazott of Plattsburgh, Mrs. John (Clayetta) Gonyo of Davenport, Fla., and Mrs. Paul (Laura) Steffen of Plattsburgh; one brother, Orville Ryan and his wife Tina of West Chazy; three special aunts, Theresa Bell and Sharon Raisch both of Peru and Alice Duprey of Rome, N.Y.; 12 granddaughters; six grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center.

William G. Provost

Athens, Ga. — William G. Provost, 60, of Athens, Ga., died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 23, 1943, to Malcolm and the late Doris Soulia Provost in Peru, N.Y.

He was salutatorian of his 1961 graduating class of Schalmont High School. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Fordham University in 1965 and was a recipient of a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship while at Fordham. He received his Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bill was a tenured professor of English Literature at the University of Georgia in Athens for the past 32 years, specializing in Medieval Literature.

He is survived by five children, Jeanne L. Provost of Santa Barbara, Calif., Mary Pat Provost of Schenectady, N.Y., Malcolm J. Provost, Benjamin M. Provost and Jacob A. Provost, all of Athens, Ga. Also surviving are his father, Malcolm J. Provost; and seven siblings, Malcolm R. Provost, Timothy J. Provost, Kenneth A. Provost, Thomas G. Provost, Carol P. Gregg, James P. Provost, Mark P. Provost and Cheri A. Palumbo.

William was predeceased by two sisters, Loxie Provost and Jeannie Provost; two brothers, Michael Provost and Daniel Provost.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church on Bradt Street in Schenectady on Friday, July 30 at 10 a.m. A brief reception for family and friends will immediately follow the ceremony. A second service will be held in Athens, Ga., with a graveside service in Peru, N.Y., in the near future.

Contributions may be sent to Schenectady Inner City Ministry (SICM), 930 Albany St., Schenectady, NY 12307, or the Potter’s House in Jefferson, Ga., in lieu of flowers.

Donald B. Tubbs

Andes, NY — Donald B. Tubbs, 71, of County Highway 1, Andes, N.Y., died July 26, 2004, at the Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y.

He was born Aug. 30, 1932 in Ossining, N.Y., son of William and Enid (Smith) Tubbs.

Donald graduated from Croton-Harmon High School and attended SUNY Cobleskill, Oswego and Plattsburgh State.

He married Carol Jacoby on Feb. 27, 1954 at Croton on the Hudson, N.Y.

He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1955. Donald was a retired guidance counselors serving schools in the BOCES program in Stamford, N.Y. Don had also been a teacher at Shalmont, Elizabethtown and Hoosick Falls school districts. He lived in the Andes area since 1962.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, Margaretville, N.Y. and the American Legion in Andes, N.Y., and a past member of Tremperskill Rod & Gun Club. Don enjoyed the outdoors and being active. He was a fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Tubbs of Andes, N.Y.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Ray Magill of Vergennes, Vt., and Nancy and Gregory Greenlow of Savannah, Ga.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffery Tubbs of Arkcille, N.Y., and Bruce and Kathleen Tubbs of Ticonderoga, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren, Jason Sabourin, Caitlin Magill, Meagan Tubbs, Carly Tubbs, Justin Tubbs, Ryan Greenlow and Brianna Greenlow.

He was predeceased by one son, William Tubbs; and a brother, William Tubbs.

Calling hours will be held at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, N.Y., on Thursday, July 29, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place on Friday, July 30, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville, N.Y., with the very Rev. Robert H. Purcell as celebrant. Burial will be in the Andes Cemetery, Andes, N.Y.

Memorial gifts in memory of Donald B. Tubbs can be made to Andes EMS.

Hydes Funeral Home in Margaretville, N.Y., is in charge of arrangements.

Irene A. Lancto, 95, formerly of Chateaugay and most recently of Morrisonville died Monday, July 26, 2004, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Chateaugay, N.Y., on March 11, 1909, the daughter of George and Alzeda (LaCount) Ploof.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Park Row, Cadyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 12 noon from St. James Minor Church in Cadyville. Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Chateaugay.

Bernadette McGill, 94, of Lake Clear, N.Y., died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Mercy Health Care Center in Tupper Lake, N.Y.

Born in Chateaugay, N.Y., on Jan. 11, 1910, she was the daughter of Asa and Lena (Silver) Brickey.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, July 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Catholic Daughters prayer service will take place on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Church in Lake Clear. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

EDDIE HOWARD BAKER, 62, of Maryland Road, Plattsburgh, died Monday, July 26, 2004 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born in Harkness on Dec. 23, 1941, the son of Howard and Dorothy (Craig) Baker.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru with the Rev. Sally White, pastor of the Keeseville and Harkness United Methodist Churches officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville.
