Published: 7/21/04Thomas J. NephewWEST CHAZY — Thomas J. Nephew, 55, of Stratton Hill Road, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 6, 1948, the son of Alex and Irene (LaValley) Nephew. Mr. Nephew was a member of St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. He married Patricia Matott on Sept. 26, 1970, at St. Joseph's Church. Thomas worked for Imperial Paper from 1972 until their closing in 1998. He then worked for Schoenbek from 1999 until present. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Nephew of West Chazy; one daughter, Laurie LaValley and her husband Heath of West Chazy; one son, Jamie Nephew and his wife Nicole of West Chazy; three grandchildren, Quiana, Jadyn and Trevor; his mother, Irene Nephew of Plattsburgh; two brothers, Jerry Nephew and his wife Donna of Plattsburgh and David Nephew and his wife Mary of Utica, N.Y.; three sisters, Joanne Mangum and her husband Jerry of Plattsburgh, Betty King of Plattsburgh and Diane Winters and her husband John of Chazy; and one sister-in-law, Beverly Nephew of Plattsburgh. He was predeceased by his father, Alex Nephew; and two brothers, Donald Nephew and Clarence Nephew. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Leon A. RenadetteWest Plattsburgh — Leon A. Renadette, 79, of Route 3, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with his children by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on March 7, 1925, son of Albert E. and Alice E. (Bell) Renadette. Leon was a veteran of the U.S. Army from March 7, 1944, to Dec. 1, 1945. He was a prisoner of war in Germany from Dec. 19, 1944 to April 23, 1945. Leon was a correction officer at Clinton Correctional Facility from 1947 to 1983. He was a member of the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1619 in West Plattsburgh, Disabled American Veterans and Knights of Columbus Council 255 in Plattsburgh. Leon enjoyed fishing, horseshoes, woodworking and time with his family, friends, grandchildren and his little dog Gizzy. Leon is survived by five children, Rodney Renadette of Seneca Falls, Colleen and Wayne LaVarnway of Saranac, Jill Renadette of West Plattsburgh, Jack and Dot Renadette of Essex and Kim McDonald of Morrisonville; four grandchildren, Chanda Renadette of Plattsburgh, Trevor Renadette, presently serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq, and Jason and Matthew LaVarnway of Saranac; his mother, Mrs. Alice Renadette of Plattsburgh; two brothers, Floyd and Simone Renadette of Plattsburgh and Clifford and Shirley Renadette of Peru; a sister, Esther and Fred Arce of Plattsburgh; a sister-in-law, Mildred Renadette of Peru; and many nieces and nephews. Leon was predeceased by his wife, Esther Renadette; his father, Albert Renadette; and a brother, Claude Renadette. Calling hours will be Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. from St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association or to the Disabled American Veterans. Dorothy M. BerdanPlattsburgh — Dorothy M. Berdan, 81, died peacefully early Monday, July 19, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. She was born in Peru, N.Y., on July 7, 1923, the daughter of Lawrence R. and Bessie (Phair) Martin who were long time Plattsburgh residents, both passing away in 1980. Dorothy graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1939 and from Lasell College in Auburndale, Mass., in 1941. She married Bird L. Berdan in Plattsburgh on Sept. 9, 1947. During World War II, Dorothy worked at G.E. in Schenectady, WGY Radio Station and WRGB TV station as audio engineer from 1943 until she left to return to Plattsburgh in 1948. Dorothy retired in 1983 after selling Avon products for nearly 20 years. She also was a member of the Clinton County Home Bureau and enjoyed doing early American crafts and basketry. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bird Berdan of Plattsburgh; one son, Martin Berdan and his wife Cindy of Roswell, Ga.; two daughters, Louise Jolly and her husband Tom of Plattsburgh and Amy Berdan of Plattsburgh; three granddaughters, Anna and Alice Jolly of Plattsburgh and Lara Pumphret and her husband Richard; and great-grandchildren Brendan and Emily, all of Cedar Park, Texas; and a grandson, Derek Berdan and his wife Kristen of Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh. A reception will follow at the United Methodist Church. Donations in her memory may be made to the United Methodist Church. The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Bernard J. DucharmeWEST CHAZY — Bernard J. Ducharme, 73, of Route 22, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at his home. He was born in Chazy on Aug. 20, 1930, the son of Edmund and Albertine (LaFountaine) Ducharme. Bernard married the former Rose Bedard in 1952 at St. Joseph's Church. He was in the U.S. Army from 1948-1952. He worked for NBC Baking, Millbrook Baking which later became Interstate Baking. He also worked for Imperial Paper Mill and drove bus for Northern NY Center. He retired from Interstate Baking in 1989 and worked part-time for Lab Corp. Bernard was a member of St. Joseph's Church. He enjoyed watching his sons play baseball when they were young. He often kept score for the games. They called him "Papa Scoop." Bernie also enjoyed playing horseshoes and hosting barbecues in the summer for family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Rose Ducharme of West Chazy; three sons, David Ducharme and his wife Diane of Erie, Pa., Jude Ducharme and his wife Debra of Brushton and Edmund Ducharme and his wife Tracey of Chazy; four daughters, Mrs. Terrance (Anne) Seymour of Beekmantown, Mrs. Duane (Mary Beth) Corron of Winston Salem, N.C., Mrs. Thomas (Joan) Zollner of St. Albans, Vt., and Mrs. Douglas (Angela) Bruette of West Chazy; one brother, Ernest Ducharme and his wife Theresa of Rouses Point; four sisters, Alice Glode of Rouses Point, Pauline Louis of Waddington, N.Y., Sister Bernadette Ducharme of Plattsburgh and Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Degrey of Plattsburgh; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Richard Ducharme. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow at the Church Hall. Memorial donations may be made to the West Chazy Fire Department or Hospice of the North Country. The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Keith R. Clark, 82, of the Alder Bend Road, Altona, N.Y., died Tuesday, July 23, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born June 23, 1922, in Lyon Mt., N.Y., the son of the late Edward Clark and the late Catherine (Stone) Clark. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home, Altona. Herbert C. Stone Sr., 77, of Durand Road, Beekmantown, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 1 p.m. from St. Peter's Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
