Published: 7/20/04Bertha PhaneufPLATTSBURGH — Bertha Florena (Trudeau) Phaneuf, 97, formerly of 85 Sailly Ave., passed away peacefully at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh on July 17, 2004, with her family by her side. She was born in Cohoes, N.Y., on May 2, 1907, the daughter of Henry and Rosina (Bouchard) Trudeau. Bertha married Maurice Phaneuf on April 27, 1927, in Cooperville, N.Y. Maurice predeceased her in August of 1977. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society for many years. Bertha and her departed husband were owner and operator of the Bay Side Motel for many years. Survivors include four children: her son, Bernard and his wife Rose of Plattsburgh; and three daughters, Lucille Phaneuf of Plattsburgh, Rita Mischler of St. Augustine, Fla., and Sandra Bibeau and her husband Babe of Plattsburgh; two daughters-in-law, Eileen Phaneuf and Betty Pombrio. She is also survived by one brother, Marcel "Joe" Trudeau and his wife Lillian of Rome, N.Y.; and two sisters, Rose McGee of North Carolina and Carol Castine and her husband Carl of Champlain; three brothers-in-law, Dames Phaneuf and his wife Gloria of Plattsburgh, Francis Carter of Plattsburgh and Orville Trombley of Rouses Point; and four sisters-in-law, Simone Trudeau, Bridgett Trudeau, Geane'Darc Trudeau and Dorothy Trudeau; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband Maurice, Bertha was predeceased by four sons, Albert, George, Donald and Andy Phaneuf; and one daughter, Ann Marie Adams. Calling hours were held on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Champlain. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Peter's Church or to Hospice Care of the North Country. Janina M. MusialCHAZY — Janina M. Musial, 95, formerly of the Duprey Road, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Kazmierow, Poland on March 24, 1909, the daughter of Teofil and Marianna (Szkudlarek) Osajda. Janina came to the United States in 1949 from Germany with her husband Joseph Musial. Joseph died on April 1, 1981. Prior to their private residence, they resided at the Miner Farm. Janina worked for several years as a housekeeper for various individuals. Most recently prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dr. George Clark in Chazy. Survivors include one sister, Zofia Glanc and her husband Stefan of Chazy; two brothers, Tadusz Osajda of Poland and Franek Osajda of Poland; and two nephews, Edmond Glanc and his wife Lynne of Chazy and Zenon Glanc of New York, N.Y. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2004, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Catherine N. BrooksMOOERS — Catherine N. Brooks, 87, of Mooers, died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point. She was born in Mooers on Nov. 9, 1916, the daughter of Will and Isabelle (Sartwell) Kingsbury. She graduated from Houghton College with a bachelor of arts degree and was employed as a case worker for the Clinton County Department of Social Services for many years. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Janet Brooks of Mooers and Thomas and Janice Brooks of Mooers; two daughters and a son-in-law, Trudy Graves of Toledo, Ohio, and Karen and Carl Shield of Manlius, N.Y.; a brother, Donald Kingsbury of Rhode Island; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Raymond Brooks died on Sept. 24, 1980. Private funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday followed by interment in Riverside Cemetery in Mooers. The officiant was Pastor Bentley Sargeant. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation. The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers was in charge of arrangements. Donald F. DeanPLATTSBURGH — Donald F. Dean, 65, of Blair Road, Plattsburgh, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Glens Falls, on July 5, 1939, the son of J. Wyman and Frances (Stoddard) Dean. Donald graduated from SUNY ESF and Syracuse University. He was a communications officer on the USS. Intrepid during the Vietnam War. Don retired in December of 2002 after 32 years with Imperial Wallcovering (IHDG) as corporate environmental manager and past director of research and development. He was on the board of directors of the North Country Girl Scout Council and recipient of the Girls Scout Thanks Badge. He was past chairman for the City of Plattsburgh Zoning Board of Appeals, founder member and past chairman of Cumberland Head Tomorrow, a member of the Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers, past president and membership chairman of Lake Champlain Antique and Classic Boat Society and a member of the First Baptist Church, past treasurer, choir member and chairman of the Board of Christian Education. Don's family was always number one. Exploring nature and teaching the grandchildren everything he could was top priority. Five of the grandchildren skied at his side this past winter. Don was a master craftsman and was always restoring a wooden boat or classic vehicle, all of which are used for family fun. Survivors include his wife, the former Janet "Jan" Fletcher of Plattsburgh; three daughters, Elizabeth and her husband Carlos Madan of Morrisonville, Ellen and her husband Ken Gricoski of Plattsburgh and Sara Dean of Plattsburgh; six grandchildren, Emily and Alexander Madan, Lydia and Paige Gricoski and Miranda and Grace Denis; his mother, Frances Dean of Queensbury, N.Y.; two brothers, Jerrold and Janet Dean of Fort Edward, N.Y., and David and Glenda Dean of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Judy and Dick Edmunds of Queensbury, N.Y., and Ginny and Bruce Coon of Newcomb, N.Y.; one sister-in- law, Louise Dean of Queensbury. N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Stone; and a brother, Mack Dean. There will be a celebration of Don's life on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church located on the corner of Court and Oak Streets in Plattsburgh. The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Donations in Don's memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center at the CVPH Medical Center. Jackie L. Andrews, 47, of Bull Run Road, Malone, N.Y., died unexpectedly Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She was born in Malone, March 5, 1957, the daughter of Jack and Vivian Foster Shene. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John Bosco Church in Malone. Burial will be in St. John Bosco Cemetery. Dorothy M. Berdan, 81, died peacefully early Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt. She was born in Peru, N.Y., on July 7, 1923, the daughter of Lawrence R. and Bessie (Phair) Martin. Arrangements are incomplete with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. |
