Alice Barie Maggy

REDFORD — Alice Barie Maggy, 88, formerly of Clinton Street in Redford, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Redford on Sept. 9, 1915, the daughter of Theodore and Mary (Strack) Barie.

Alice was a member of Church of the Assumption and a former member of the Altar Rosary Society.

Alice married Joseph A. Maggy on June 24, 1935, at the Church of the Assumption he died Feb. 6, 1997.

She was a cook for many years, working for MAI and later for Sacred Heart Nursing Home. Alice was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed cards. She also loved to cook for her family.

Survivors include, one son, Gerald Maggy of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Betty and Tom Weightman of Morrisonville, Mary Wood of Morrisonville and Constance (Connie) and Charles Hall of Redford; one sister, Anita Brown of Hampton, Va.; 8 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Leroy; three brothers, Isadore, George and Charles Barie; and one sister, Mary Barie.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Church of Assumption in Redford. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow at the Assumption of Mary School in Redford.

Donations may be made to the Assumption of Mary School Endowment Fund.

Arnold R. Gonyo

Mooers — Arnold R. Gonyo, 72, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at his residence.

He was born in Mooers on Aug. 14, 1931, the son of Peter and Dorothy (Boulerice) Gonyo.

He owned and operated Gonyo Farm Excavators for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Mooers and was an usher for many years. He was a member of the Mooers Knights of Columbus 6136 and was a past Grand Knight. He was a member of the 4th degree Assembly and a past district deputy and was also an active member of the Mooers Zoning Board.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Lavoie) Gonyo of Mooers; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom and Christine Gonyo of Emmaus, Pa., and Tim Gonyo of Jackman, Maine; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Brenda and Dave Chevalier of Chazy, Linda Gonyo of Champlain, Debra and Jeff Winters of Mooers and Julie and Scott Blondo of Champlain; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Shirley Gonyo of Mooers and Harry and Bonnie Gonyo of Mooers; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Margaret Monette of Mooers, Irene and Gerald Bushey of Utica and Patricia and Stanley Wood of Plattsburgh; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and two brothers, Charles and Earl Gonyo, died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. Members of Knights of Columbus Council 6136 are asked to meet at the funeral home at 5:30 p.m. for services. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday from St. Joseph's Church in Mooers. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church or the Mooers Rescue Squad.

Barbara L. Collins

Lyon Mountain — Barbara L. Collins, 70, of Lyon Mountain, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Lyon Mountain on Feb. 2, 1934, the daughter of Howard and Bernice (LaFlesh) LaPoint.

She was employed by Plattsburgh State University, for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Collins of Lyon Mountain; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy Collins Paige and her companion Heath Landry of Malone and Carol and John LeClair of Lyon Mountain; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Jeanette Dubrey of Lyon Mountain, Sally Kline of Lyon Mountain, Genevieve and Johnny Mailloux of Brainardsville, MaryRita and John Cayea of Lyon Mountain and Diane and Bruce Shutts of Merrill; five brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Judy LaPoint of Chazy Lake, William and Judy LaPoint of Connecticut, Francis and Jackie LaPoint of Merrill, Albert and Betty LaPoint of Merrill and Tommy and Peggy LaPoint of Chazy Lake; five grandchildren, Rene Paige, Robert Paige Jr., Jason Paige, Megan LeClair and John LeClair Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Kylie and Kenzie Martin; and several nieces and nephews.

Three brothers, Phillip, Howard Jr. and Robert LaPoint, died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

Sarah A. Moody

ROUSES POINT — Sarah A. Moody, 75, of Rouses Point and formerly of Largo, Fla., passed away Monday, July 12, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Chateaugay, N.Y., the daughter of the late Ralph F. and Alberta (Moulton) Moody.

She was an avid Bingo player.

Her parents; her husband, Leo Clukey; one son, Ronald Douglas; and two brothers, William Moody and Kenneth P. Moody, predeceased Sarah.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen and Vickie Douglas of Rouses Point and Larry and Judy Douglas of North Hollywood, Calif.; one daughter, Margaret and Gervin Johnston of Chateauguay, Quebec; one brother, John M. Moody of St. Albans, Vt.; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; five stepchildren, Bill Clukey, Leo Clukey, Roy Clukey, Doreen Clukey and Philip Clukey. She was also very fond of her two stepdaughters-in-law, Brenda and Bridgette.

Calling hours will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Rouses Point Rescue Squad or any other favorite charity.

Maynard J. Smart

Keeseville — Mr. Maynard J. Smart, 61, of Locust Lane, Keeseville passed away at his home with his family by his side.

He was born in Dannemora, N.Y., on March 8, 1943, the son of Henry and Nora (Facteau) Smart.

Maynard served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 to 1964. He retired as a letter carrier at the Plattsburgh Post Office.

Maynard enjoyed RVing and spending time with his family. After retiring he had worked at Lowes and he was an avid Cardinal Hockey fan.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Rose Desautels; and a brother, Edward Smart.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Frances "Fran" (LaVarnway) Smart of Keeseville; his twin daughters, Gina Bond of Schuyler Falls, Jacqueline Mitchell and her husband Pete of Cadyville; four grandchildren, Dalton, Chelsey, Connor Joseph and Cydney. Maynard is also survived by two brothers, Victor Smart and his wife Mary of Ocala, Fla., Roger Smart and his wife Jean of Saranac, N.Y.; three sisters, Bernice Girard and her husband Ernie of Lyon Mountain, Priscilla Hackett of Chazy, N.Y., and Mary Rock and her husband Don of Plattsburgh; several nieces; nephews; and his canine friends, Bailey and Maverick a.k.a. Bubba and Foo-Foo.

At Maynard's request there will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. from St. Peter's Church.
