Betty M. Kidney

Lake Placid — Betty M. Kidney, 82, formerly of Sentinel Road, Lake Placid, died Friday, July 2, 2004, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Lake Placid, Dec. 3, 1921, the daughter of James and Dorothy (Kennedy) Mulvey.

Betty was a graduate of Lake Placid High School and Green Mountain College of Vermont.

She was the manager of Peck and Peck women’s clothing store in Lake Placid and during the winter months worked at Razooks in West Palm Beach for many years.

She married George Kidney at the First Methodist Church in Hartford, Conn. He predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her parents; and one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Mulvey Jr.

After moving from Lake Placid, Betty resided at the Keeseville Country Gardens for several years.

Survivors include three nephews, James H. Mulvey III of Texas, Sean P. Mulvey of Pittsford and Darren K. Mulvey of Florida, currently serving with the United States Navy; one daughter of the heart, Anne Kafel of Brooklyn; and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, at 1 p.m. at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid with Rev. Mark Demers, pastor, officiating. Burial will be private in the family plot in the North Elba Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the North Elba Cemetery Association in Lake Placid.

Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville.

Claude R. Patenaude

Rouses Point — Claude R. Patenaude, 66, of Rouses Point passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004, at his home.

He was born Nov. 12, 1937, in St. Jean, Quebec, the son of the late Joseph Patenaude and Yvette Tougas.

He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.

His parents predecease him.

Survivors include his wife, Rejeanne of Rouses Point; one son, Richard Patenaude and his wife Sylvie Gauthier of St-Michel, Quebec; one sister, Anita Patenaude and Andre St. Germain of St-Jean, Quebec; one sister-in-law, Ginette Charbonneau and Clement Giard of Rougemont, Quebec; one grandson, Richard Kevin Patenaude; two nephews, Dennis and Daniel Charette and their wives; and four great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point. Burial will take place at a later date in St-Gregoire, Quebec.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.

Arrangements are with the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point.

Yvon Fortin

British Columbia — Yvon Fortin, 52, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at his home.

He was born in Montreal, Quebec, on July 13, 1951, the son of Benoit and Annette Fortin.

Mr. Fortin is survived by his father of Chazy Lake; three brothers, Gerald Fortin of Montreal, Alain and Soulange Fortin of Laval, Quebec, and Denis and Mary Fortin of Lyon Mountain; a sister, Danielle Fortin of Laval, Quebec; two nephews, Alexis Fortin of Laval and Jean Luc Fortin of Lyon Mountain.

He was predeceased by his mother in 1997.

There will be a Mass of Christian burial at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2004, at St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain with Monsignor Bernard Christman, officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Lyon Mountain.

Local arrangements are through the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

Susan Elizabeth Knapp

KEENE — Susan Elizabeth (Perkins) Knapp was born in 1905 in Wilmington.

The widow of Rolland Ira Knapp, she was resident of Keene for 74 years.

She passed late Monday, July 5, 2004, at Adirondack Medical Center with her loving family in attendance.

Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Reber, N.Y., town of Willsboro, at 12 noon on Saturday, July 10, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association are requested.

Susan was a life member of the Grange. Her early favorite church services were at the "revivalist" camp meetings and later was a member of the Keene Methodist Church. Recently, Susan explored many religions intellectually and became widely acquainted with various manners of faith.

Susan was the wife and lifelong partner of Rolland, a multi-talented carpenter. Susan attended the college of life and having a great memory, never met a book she didn't like. Over the course of her hard-working 98 years, she learned all she could about antiques, farming, lumbering, mining and building.

A descendant of Adinirom Parrot, a founder of Plattsburgh; of Thomas Storrs, a founder of Barnstable, Mass.; and of Nathaniel Cutler, a founder of Reading, Mass.; Susan had a deep interest in local and American history.

Susan's great joys were educating children through experiences of egg gathering, gardening, pickling, canning and baking. She relished questions and always had a knowledgeable answer, to no-one's surprise.

Susan was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Fanny (Lawrence) Perkins; husband, Rolland; siblings, Lloyd, Norma, Fred, Francis and Robley; sons, Rolland Jr. and Fred Ira; and grandchildren, Suzie Knapp and Gary Lee Hall and Michael Stubbs.

Susan is survived by one brother, Gerald Perkins of Granville, Tenn.; and her sister-in-law, Lois Perkins of Plattsburgh, N.Y. Also surviving are five children, Elizabeth of Keene Valley, Barbara of Preston, Conn., Conrad of Keene, Roger of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Robin of Crown Point. She also left 23 grandchildren, Gregg Trask, Shana Macey, Zane Hall, Tanya Fuhrmeister, Dale Hall, Curtis Hall, Keith Hall, Karen Otero, Frederick B. Knapp, Caryl Morgan, Gregg Warner, Janet Hall, Bonnie Plottel, Linda Riegel, Theresa Jordan, Brian Knapp, Kenneth Knapp, Donna Knapp, David Knapp, Lynn Hannah, James M. Knapp, Richard A. Knapp and Jean Pareti. Also left are 43 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Virginia C. Grew, 82, of Plattsburgh, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, July 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Mooers Forks.

Caroline J. Fayette, 79, of 419 Judson Street, Ogdensburg, N.Y., died Tuesday afternoon, July 6, 2004, at the United Helpers Nursing Home, in Ogdensburg, where she had been a resident since March 17.

She was born in Malone, N.Y., Sept. 10, 1924, the daughter of the late Leo and Hazel DesParois Fayette.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 12, at Notre Dame Church, in Malone at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc., in Malone.
