Published: 7/1/04Former Plattsburgh principal dies Richard McTiguePLATTSBURGH — Richard McTigue, whose life was devoted to education, passed away Monday, June 28, 2004, at Albany Medical Center. He was born June 20, 1936, in New York City. Mr. McTigue lived in West Islip, until moving to Plattsburgh in 1985. After 17 years of teaching and serving as a school administrator in Long Island elementary schools, Mr. McTigue became principal of Stafford Middle School, he retired in 1992. A graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh, Mr. McTigue attended Fordham University and received his masters degree from SUNY Geneseo. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base. As liaison with the CVPH, Mr. McTigue worked to implement the Heart Smart cafeteria program at the Middle School. A significant contribution was his introduction of the team approach to learning at the middle school level. He received the state award for promoting home and career skills and was honored with the Steuben Apple award. Mr. McTigue also was the 1994 recipient of the Corning Ward for New York State advocate for Home Economics. He was a member of the New York State Middle School Liaison Committee, New York State Education Committee on Nutrition for Life Curriculum and National Association of Secondary School Principals. An active member of the community, Mr. McTigue was a member and officer of the Phi Detta Kappa education honor society. He was an officer of Plattsburgh City Schools Federal Credit Union and the New York State Retired Teachers Association as well as a member of two ARC committees. For many years, Mr. McTigue acted on behalf of teacher’s unions. He was also a member of the NYS Middle School liaison. Survivors are his beloved wife, Mary Ellen; two sons, Brady of Ponte Verde, Fla., and Matthew of Grand Canyon,, Ariz.; a sister, Virginia Sword of Jacksonville, Fla. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 1, 2004, at St. Mary’s of the Lake at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the SUNY Plattsburgh College Foundation in memory of Richard McTigue or to the MLP Organ Donor Fund, c/o Foundation of CVPH, 75 Beekman Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. Nicholas PryslakMORRISONVILLE — Nicholas Pryslak, 78, formerly of Morrisonville, N.Y., died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Born in New Jersey on Sept. 23, 1925, he was the son of John and Katherine (Losyk) Pryslak. Mr. Pryslak had been a resident of the Plattsburgh area since the early 1980’s. Prior to that he had owned and operated Nick and Verns Restaurant in Bloomingdale, N.Y. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Coast Guard Merchant Marine from 1943 to 1945. He later served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and then served in the Army Reserve from 1953 to 1957. He later served in the Military Sealift Command from 1986 to 1990. Mr. Pryslak is a member and past commander of the Beekmantown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1466. Survivors include a brother, Peter Pryslak in Edison, N.J.; and many close friends. He was predeceased by his son, August John Pryslak on Aug. 30, 1990; an infant daughter, Mary; and two brothers, Walter and Michael. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Bloomingdale. Friends wishing may make contributions to the Hospice of the North Country in his memory. Leroy MorrisMOOERS FORKS — LeRoy Morris, 83, of 288 Emery Road, Mooers Forks, N.Y., died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Allentown, N.J.. on Dec. 13, 1920, the son of the late Isabelle Nixon and Lee Morris. He is survived by his ex-wife Geraldine (Marshall) Morris of Mooers Forks, N.Y.; and was predeceased by wife Elizabeth Morris of New Jersey. He is survived by daughters, Bertha P. Bouchard and her husband Amos of Brownsmills, N.J., Rebecca Cole and her husband Charles of Wrightstown, N.J.; stepchildren, Walter Paige and his fiancée Nadine McArthey of Churubusco, N.Y., Gary Paige of Mooers Forks, N.Y., Gracanne Stermer and her ex-husband Ronald Stermer of Churubusco, N.Y., Barbara Paige and her fiancé Bill of Calhoun, Ga., William Paige and wife Kerri of Mooers Forks, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Howard Morris; sister-in-law, Gladys; special friends, Jack and Dale Gonyo and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Grant. He was predeceased by son, Gabe Morris and his wife Pat; and brothers, Herman and John. Calling hours will be held on July 2, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Altona. At LeRoy’s request, he has been cremated and will be taken back to New Jersey for his final resting place. Joan Ellen BlostranCortland, Ohio — Joan, age 60, of Phillip Rice Road, Cortland, Ohio, died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the Cleveland Clinic. She is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Blomstran; daughters, Kimberly Troy and Angela Vickers; and 5 grandchildren, all of Warren, Ohio; her sister, Dorothy Wilke of Florida, Sally Wilke of Port Henry, N.Y., and Betty Perkins of Arizona. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Edith Ashe Wilke and George W. Wilke. Funeral services were held in Cortland, Ohio, on June 28, 2004. She will be greatly missed by all. Roland LeRoy SpringWilmington, N.Y. — Roland LeRoy Spring, 88, of Hardy Road, Wilmington, N.Y., and Egg Harbor Township died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, in the Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point, N.J. Born in Witherbee, N.Y., he was the son of the late Albert LeRoy and the late Myrtle Emily (O’Neil) Spring. He graduated from Keeseville High School and Plattsburgh, N.Y., Aircraft School. He was a tool and die maker, employed by General Electric of Schenectady, N.Y., and retired after 36 years. He contracted polio at the age of 2 years and had the first experimental surgery in Albany, N.Y., at 16 years of age for the polio. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved the outdoors. He was a leader in Boy Scout Troop in Pattersonville in 1956 and was a catcher for the General Electric Baseball team, Schenectady and was a 32nd degree mason and a shriner. The family hopes all of the fond memories of Roland will be carried on with everyone he knew and loved. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Mable (Lawrence) Spring; one daughter, Sheila Lyman of Clifton Park, N.Y.; and two sons, Lawrence Roland Spring and wife Nancy of Pattersonville, N.Y., and Albert LeRoy Spring and wife Kathleen of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; three brothers, Fayette Spring of Ticonderoga, N.Y., Donald Spring of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Howard Spring of Ocala, Fla.; his grandchildren, Ronnie Sue, Allison and Samatha Spring; granddaughter, Renee Gosselin; grandchildren, Radley, Trevor and Barclay Spring of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; his great-grandchildren, Sebastian Beadnell; and new baby, David Jr. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks, N.Y. The family will be receiving friends from 12 noon until the time of the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, AuSable Forks. Korben KriplinPLATTSBURGH — Korben Kriplin, infant son of Kyle Kriplin and Michelle Duto, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on May 24, 2004. Survivors include Korben’s mother, Michelle Duto; father, Kyle Kriplin; and brother, Kaiden Kriplin, all of Saranac; his grandparents, Barbara Zuiderveld of Cadyville, Harold Kriplin of Plattsburgh, Michael Duto of Seal Rock, Ore., Judy Moller of West Chazy and Mary Jane and Jack Hulbert of Cadyville. He is also survived by great-grandparents, Harold and Florence Kriplin Sr. of West Plattsburgh, Calla London and Ken Watson of Plattsburgh and Stanley F. Myers of Wyoming; aunt and uncles include, Justin Duto and his companion Jackie Trombley of Cadyville, Heath and Theresa Kriplin of Arizona, Lance Kriplin of Orlando, Fla., John Kriplin and Sarah Kriplin of West Chazy and Wyatt Kriplin of Plattsburgh. He is survived by several great-aunts; great-uncles; and cousins. He is predeceased by his great-grandparents, Pearl and Gary Godin of Plattsburgh and Mary Jane Myers of Wyoming. He is also predeceased by an uncle, Hunter Kriplin of Plattsburgh. Calling hours will be Friday, July 2, 2004, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. San Soucey, pastor, of Assembly of God Church in Plattsburgh, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Mark W. LudwigAustin, Texas — Mark W. Ludwig, 39, of 12025 Cherie Drive, Austin, Texas, a former Berkshire County resident, died Sunday night in Austin, Texas, as a result of a motor vehicle accident that evening. He was born in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., on Aug. 25, 1964, a son of the late Frank and Patricia (Fahl) Ludwig. He moved to Vermont with his family at age 5 and attended schools there, graduating from Green Mountain Union High School in Chester, Vt., in 1982. Mr. Ludwig worked at Pete’s Chrysler in Pittsfield, Mass., for several years and also worked for a period at the Ground Round Restaurant in Hadley, Mass., which is owned by his brother, Michael. He moved to Texas in 1998 and until his death, he had worked as senior manager for software products at Polycom Inc., in Austin. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the International Multimedia Telecommunications Consortium. He enjoyed golfing, boating, traveling and spending time with his family, friends and coworkers. He is survived by two brothers, Michael A. Ludwig and his wife Linda of Adams, Mass., and Jeffrey R. Ludwig and his wife Jeanne of Saranac, N.Y.; one sister, Laurie A. Ludwig of Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.; his nieces and nephews, Katelyn E. Ludwig, Stephanie M. Ludwig and Michael A. Ludwig, all of Adams, Mass., and Jeffrey E. Ludwig and Gregory G. Ludwig, both of Saranac, N.Y. Calling hours at the Auge’-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac Street, Adams, MA 01220 will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held on Friday, July, 2, 2004, at 9 a.m. from the Auge’-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac Street, Adams, MA 01220, followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Raphael’s Church. Rev. Mark Burke, S.J., pastor of St. Patrick and St. Raphael Parish, Williamstown, will officiate. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. A memorial service will be held in Austin, Texas at a date to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to the Mark William Ludwig Memorial Fund, through the funeral home. Atwater — Thomas R. Atwater, 36, of Margaret Street, Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at his residence. He was born on Sept. 29, 1968, the son of John and Jacquelyn (Anderson) Atwater.
