H. Willard Miner

CHATEAUGAY — H. Willard Miner, 81, of State Route 11, Chateaugay died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.

Born in Churubusco, N.Y., on Sept. 18, 1922, he was the son of Fred and Fannie (Denno) Miner.

Mr. Miner is survived by a brother, Thomas Miner of Chateaugay, N.Y.; and two sisters, Lillian Miner of Chateaugay, N.Y., and Gertrude Cole of Plattsburgh, N.Y.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Fred and Raymond Miner; five sisters, Mary Rosia LeClair, Doris Miner, Florence McCormick and Elizabeth and Ida Miner, in infancy.

Mr. Miner worked on the family dairy farm, Miner Span Farm, for 44 years, retiring in 2000. He was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Churubusco.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with Rev. Howard McCasland officiating. Burial will take place at Immaculate Heart Cemetery, Churubusco.

Volena E. Atkinson

PLATTSBURGH — Volena E. Atkinson, 76, of 36 Monty Street, Plattsburgh died Monday, June 21, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Altona on March 17, 1928, the daughter of George "Dewey" and Doris (Heider) Riggs.

She married Douglass Atkinson, he died in 1986.

Mrs. Atkinson was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Catholic Daughters, the Red Hatter Society and the Clinton County Area Ladies Club. She was a clerk at the Grand Union on Margaret Street for over 20 years.

Survivors include one son, Doug Atkinson of Plattsburgh; her sister, Eva Myers of Dayton, Ohio; and two very dear god-children, Sherrie Moses of Queensbury, N.Y., and Amberly Godding of Plattsburgh.

Two brothers, Norman and Larry Riggs, died earlier.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery.

Mary E. Nelson, 78, of 2107 Route 22B, Morrisonville, died Monday, June 21, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Albany on Sept. 14, 1925, the daughter of Trifone and Trifona (Rizzo) DeGiorgia.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete as of Tuesday evening at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.
