Published: 6/22/04Joseph Manuel FlorioCOLUMBIA, S.C. — Mr. Florio died Friday, June 18, 2004. Born in New York, N.Y. He was a son of Dora Camancho and Thomas M. Florio. He attended State University College of Delhi, NY. Mr. Florio proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and retired in 1984. He was a member of the DAV, the VFW and the American Legion during his years in New York. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Donna Florio; two sons, Joshua M. Florio and his wife Katrina of Fort Stewart, Calif., and Jeremy A. Florio of Fort Eustis, Va.; a grandson, Tyler M. Florio; and his father-in-law, Hermann Boysen of Brentwood, N.Y. Funeral service for Joseph Manuel Florio, 56, of Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o’clock prior to the time of service. Interment will be in Florence National Cemetery at 11 o’clock Tuesday, June 22, 2004. Stone, 76, of Robinson Terrace, Plattsburgh, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 7, 1928, son of the late Wilfred and Charlotte (Ducharme) Stone. Gordon was a graduate of Mount Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. Gordon was a Plattsburgh City Police Officer for eight years. He was employed by H.A. Fortin and Son’s. He retired as a union plumber from Local 773 where he has been a member since 1958. Gordon was a member of the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh, Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 125 in Plattsburgh and was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. Gordon is survived by his wife, Clarissa (Rushford) Stone of Plattsburgh; seven children, Sherry Bradde of Barre, Vt., Charles Stone and his wife Janora of Plattsburgh, Karen Oles and her husband David of Barre, Vt., Lorry-Ann Stone of St. George, Utah, Bruce Stone of Plattsburgh, Starr Burke of Plattsburgh, Brian Stone and his wife Carrie of Massena; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 23, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the American Legion Post 20 and the Veterans of Foreign Post 125 will meet Wednesday evening at 7:30 for services. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 24, 2004, at 10 a.m. from St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in his memory may be made to the Henry K. Freedman Dialysis Center at CVPH Medical Center. Laura M. ToddPeru — Laura M. Todd, 91, of Pleasant Street, Peru, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born in Randolph, Vt., July 22, 1912, the daughter of Harry and Lessie (Chadwick) Chase. Laura retired from Peru Central School where she worked as a secretary for many years. Mrs. Todd was a member of the AARP and the Golden Apple Club. She was also a very active member in the community and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Those who knew her found her to be a quite a character and a very fancy dresser. She also very much enjoyed her garage sales. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Fred Fandler of Denton, Texas; and two nieces, Mrs. Carol Pompelio of Pittsford and Mrs. Betty Lou Gersten of Glendale, Ariz. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Todd, who died in 1983. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru with Rev. Sally White, pastor of the Keeseville and Harkness United Methodist Churches, officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Glens Falls. Donations in her memory may be made to the Peru Free Library. Harry Paul Rockwell Sr.Bristol, Vt. — Harry Paul Rockwell Sr., 47 , died Friday, June 18, 2004, the result of an automobile accident. He was born in Middlebury, Vt., on Feb. 4, 1957, the son of Ralph and Katherine (Pecor) Rockwell. He is survived by three children, Rick Lafayette and his fiancée April Vaughn of Starksboro, Vt., Kasi Wood and her husband Ronnie of Lake George and Harry (P.J.) Rockwell of Keeseville; Four granddaughters, Megan, Alanah and Breanne Lafayette and Hailee Wood due in November; three brothers, Vern Rockwell of Hague, Charles Rockwell of Bristol, Vt., and Jeff Rockwell of Rutland, Vt.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Peggy and Gill Ouellette of Port Kent and Ginny Brown of Rutland, Vt.; and three special nieces and a nephew, Deanna, Marcy, Donna and Gill ; and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Doug Rockwell. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Brown-McClay Funeral Homes in Bristol, Vt. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol, Vt. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Deborah Harris BlumenthalArmonk, N.Y. — Deborah Harris Blumenthal, 51, of Armonk, N.Y., formerly of Morrisonville, N.Y., passed away May 24, 2004. Born in Spokane, Wash., Dec. 7, 1954, to Audrey (Kelly) and Francis "Bud" Harris. She is survived by her parents of Woodstock, Ga.; her husband, Peter Blumenthal of 29 years, married on Aug. 25, 1974 at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville, N.Y.; two daughters, Karen (Blumenthal) and Andrew Huber of Philadelphia, Pa. and Jennifer Blumenthal of Washington, DC; two sisters and their families, Brenda and Bill Branch of Cadyville, N.Y., and Judy Harris of Woodstock, Ga.; two brothers and their families, Thomas and Shari Harris of Acworth, Ga., and Todd Harris and fiancée Anabelle Perez of Woodstock, Ga. She was predeceased by a daughter, Allison Blumenthal. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society/Breast Cancer Research. Carl M. Gale, 64, of Goodman Road, Malone, N.Y., died unexpectedly, Sunday June 20, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt. He was born in Malone, May 9, 1940, son of the late Everett and Helen Dewey Gale. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso - Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tom Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Morningside Cemetery in Malone. H. Willard Miner, 81, of State Route 11, Chateaugay died June 20, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt. He was born in Churubusco on Sept. 18, 1922, the son of Fred and Fannie (Denno) Miner. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chateaugay Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, June 23, at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Churubusco. Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home and a complete obituary will be in tomorrow’s paper. Eleanor M. Brant, 75, formerly of Westport, N.Y., died Jan. 24, 2004, the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. She was born March 12, 1928, in Essex, N.Y., the daughter of Albert and Constance (Higby) Hayward. A graveside memorial service will be held Friday June 25, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Essex, N.Y. Arrangements are with W.M. Marvin’s Sons in Elizabethtown. |
