Mildred I. Baker

MORRISONVILLE — Mildred I. Baker, 82, of Norman Road, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Williamsport, Pa., on June 8, 1922, daughter of Charles and Jenny (Polsgrove) Fuller.

Mildred was an avid birdwatcher, she enjoyed lilacs and was a devoted grandmother.

Mildred is survived by six children, Robert Schwank and his wife, Wendy, of Jacksonville, Fla., William Schwank of Williamsport, Pa., Roland Schwank and his wife, Ann, of Redford, John Schwank and his wife, Wendy, of Morrisonville, Norman Baker Jr. and his wife, Renee, of Morrisonville, and Sandra Gero of Keeseville; a sister, Lillian Harris of Williamsport, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home in Cadyville. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Cadyville with the Rev. Jeffrey Turcotte, pastor of Cadyville Wesleyan Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in West Plattsburgh.

Nancy L. Vorce

PLATTSBURGH — Nancy L. Vorce, 61, of Point au Roche Road, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Elizabethtown on April 19, 1943, the daughter of the late Lila Lewis.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Sidney Vorce; one son, Roger Vaughn of Westport; two step-daughters and their spouses, Donna and Dale Warner of Plattsburgh and Susan and Kent Faus of Morrisonville; and a granddaughter, Morgan Vaughn of Westport.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday from St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Abigail Leigh Martin

PERU — Abigail Leigh Martin, 23, of 4 Bouchard Drive, Peru, died Saturday, June 19, 2003, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston, Vt., surrounded by her loving family and friends. She courageously endured a brave five-year battle with brain cancer. Abby endured multiple surgeries, radiation treatment and numerous chemotherapy protocols. In the midst of all these challenges, she pursued her goal of continuing to play hockey with the Plattsburgh Youth Hockey Organization.

Abby was born April 17, 1981 at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Michigan, beloved daughter of Maureen (Farrell) Martin, sister of Matthew and Claire Martin and cherished aunt of 4-year-old Austin. Precious niece of Patricia and Dennis Ryan of Massena, Michelle and Ed Cummings of Batavia, Julie and Forest Shick of Rochester, Bridget Farrell of Houston, Texas, Matthew and Holly Farrell of Massena, and Angela Eseltine of Louisville and adored fairy godmother, Shell. Many devoted cousins also survive her. Abigail is predeceased by her maternal grandparents James and Claire Farrell of Massena and cherished cousin Christopher Douglas Eseltine, and cherished Uncle Stephen Eseltine.

Graduating from Peru High School in the year 2000, Abby went on to complete her associate’s degree in arts at Clinton Community College and was presented her diploma at Fletcher Allen Healthcare Facility. All of Abby’s aspirations were accomplished with the physical, spiritual, and emotional support of her mom, family and friends. Abby has and will continue to be an inspiration to all the people she has touched.

Abby’s family wishes to thank all of the staff of the Pediatric Oncology Unit at the Vermont Children’s Hospital in Burlington, Vt., Drs. Steven Wald, Alan Homans, Todd Maugans, Debra Rubin, Louise Sivak, Landy Cook, and multiple residents, along with their support staff Penny DeGoosh, Alison Parker, her son Sam, the nursing staff on Baird 5. We express deep appreciation to Pam Fenimore of the Ronald McDonald House and the staff of the Ronald McDonald Room on Baird 5. We also want to acknowledge the excellent staff members of the Vermont Respite House for their loving devotion and care of Abby as she made the transition from this world to arms of our Heavenly Father.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Louisville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Abigail Leigh Martin — Memorial Fund, Twin Rivers Federal Credit Union, 23 Phillips St., Massena, NY 13662.

Donald C. Hilborne

KEESEVILLE — Donald C. Hilborne, 64, of Taylor Hill Road, Keeseville, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at his home.

He was born in Ogdensburg, Sept. 15, 1939.

Donald served in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard.

He was employed as a carpenter with North Eastern Industrial Piping in Plattsburgh. Donald was also a certified mechanic and well-known electrician and plumber.

Donald was a devoted member of the Independent Baptist Church in Keeseville for 33 years. He also belonged to the Mustang Car Club, Adirondack Classic Cruisers, Local B.A.S.S., Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club, North Country Bass Association, and a lifetime member of Bass Masters.

He enjoyed racing cars, bass fishing, trapping, skeet shooting, antique cars and motorcycle riding.

Survivors include his wife, Betty J. (Grumlaw) Hilborne of Keeseville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and David Beane, Brenda and Will Schneider, and Tammy and Steven Bezio, all of Keeseville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald J. and Shannon Hilborne of Plattsburgh, and Scott and Abbi Hilborne, and Todd Hilborne and companion, Cathy, all of Keeseville; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gerry and Clifford Montroy, and Keitha and William Tupper, all of Ogdensburg; half brothers and sisters, Kenny Hilborne of Ogdensburg, Dean Hilborne of Florida, Diana Solomon of Prescott, Ontario, and Gloria Vice, and Doreen Shattuck, both of Ogdensburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Emma (King) Hadley; and his stepfather, Charles Hadley.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Independent Baptist Church in Keeseville with Pastor Richard Wilson officiating. Burial and full military honors accorded by the Vermont Air National Guard Honor Guard will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Independent Baptist Church in Keeseville.

Marvin H. St. Denis

PLATTSBURGH — Marvin H. St. Denis, 64, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at his residence in Plattsburgh.

Born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 18, 1939, he was the son of Marvin St. Denis and Beatrice Ducatte.

Marvin was employed by the NYS Department of Transportation for 45 years as a highway maintenance supervisor.

He was a horseman all his life and an avid Team Penner. He was a member of the United States Team Penning Association.

Survivors include his companion, Debby Calisti; a son, Robert St. Denis of Plattsburgh and his companion Deborah Stampfler; two daughters, Carolyn St. Denis of North Bangor and her companion Greg Monica and Sharon and Dennis Digman of Thompson Ridge, N.Y.; a sister, Joanne Chiodetti of Massachusetts; two granddaughters, Amber and Aleasha Digman; two nephews and a niece; and many wonderful friends.

Calling hours will be Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A prayer service will follow at 6 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Clayton A. Wood

RIVERVIEW — Clayton A. Wood, 80, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Riverview on March 24, 1924, he was the son of Fred and Ina (Strack) Wood.

Clayton worked for 35 years at Diamond International.

Survivors include six daughters, Beverly Poirer Bombard and her husband Marvin of Saranac Lake, Darlene Wood of Saranac Lake, Rachel Snow of Waymith, Mass., Cindy Sorrell of Winder, Ga., Tina Wood and her longtime companion James Theriault, Pamela Denis and her husband Henry of Tupper Lake; four sons, Rocky Wood and his wife Tina of Redford, Barry Wood and his wife Bev of Beekmantown, Barton Wood and his wife Pamela of Plattsburgh and Danny Wood and his wife Carla of Tupper Lake; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy; five sons, Clayton, Leo, Theodore, Ned and Randy; his parents; five brothers, Walter, Philip, Cleveland, Leo and Donald Wood; and three sisters, Ethel Anderson, Lena Strack and Lorraine Derocher.

Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. from the Church of the Assumption in Redford. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Leona M. Mooso

DESTIN, Fla./WEST CHAZY — Leona M. Mooso, 84, of Destin, Fla., and formerly of West Chazy, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at the Destin Health Care Center. Mrs. Mooso was born in Mooers Forks on Feb. 11, 1920, the daughter of John and Agnes (Miller) LaValley. She married Orville M. Mooso at St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy in 1936. He died in 1990.

Mrs. Mooso was a former member of St. Joseph’s Church and a former member and treasurer of the West Chazy Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxilliary for more than 30 years.

She worked at the Beekmantown Central School cafeteria for 10 years, retiring in 1966.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald "Jerry" Mooso of Schertz, Texas and Gregory Mooso and his wife Carol of Destin, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. William (Shirley) Graham of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Nephew and Mrs. Mildred Percey, both of West Chazy, and Mrs. Irene Nephew of Plattsburgh; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Zephere, Edward, Amos; four sisters, Nettie, Ida, Mary and Lillian; one grandson, Scott; and one daughter-in-law, Lynn Mooso, all predeceased her.

Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church followed by burial in the Parish Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the West Chazy Volunteer Fire Department.

Mildred A. Stockholm

HAGUE — Mildred A. Stockholm, 78, formerly of Friends Point in Hague and most recently of New Jersey, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2004 at the Lincoln Park Renaissance Nursing and Rehabilitation Home of Lincoln Park, N. J.

Born in Hackensack, N. J., Aug. 5, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Harry Z. and Loretta (Hein) Ackerman.

Mrs. Stockholm moved to Hague in 1985 and was a resident there for 15 years. She was a member of the Home Bureau of Hague and the Hague Garden Club.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Alexander Splihte, and her second husband, Robert Q. Stockholm.

Survivors include one son, Craig Splihte and his wife Mary of Dover, N. J.; one daughter, Sharon Culliton and her husband Bill of Stillwater; one brother, Kenneth Ackerman and his wife Lois of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and one sister, Beverly Supple and her husband Jerry of Advance, N.C. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Danny Culliton, Corey Culliton and Jesse Culliton.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday, June 24, 2004 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox and Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament of Hague. The Rev. George Fleming, pastor, will officiate.

The Rite of Commital will follow at the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

ARTHUR J. ROUSELL, 56, Lake Titus, died at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, on June 20, 2004.

Born in Malone on Sept. 5, 1947, he was the son of Lawrence and Rita (Tavernia) Rousell.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi in Constable. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

LAURA M. TODD, 91, of Pleasant Street, Peru, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Randolph, Vt., July 22, 1912, the daughter of Harry and Lessie (Chadwick) Chase.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.
