Michael J. Doorey Sr.

Peru — Mr. Michael J. Doorey Sr., 70, of Main Street, Peru, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born in Plattsburgh on March 10, 1934, son of Francis M. and Pauline A. (Trombly) Doorey.

Michael graduated from St. John’s Academy in 1951, where he excelled in baseball, basketball and football.

On Feb. 27, 1954, he married Joyce Linda Gerke in St. John the Baptist Church in Plattsburgh. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Michael served as a military policeman in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He received his bachelor’s degree and his master’s degree from Plattsburgh State Teacher’s College. Michael was a sixth-grade teacher in the Peru Central School System. Michael was a member of the West Plattsburgh American Legion, the Keeseville Elks Lodge, he officiated high school and collegiate football, soccer and basketball, for many years. Michael served as Peru Youth Community Director.

Michael is survived by his wife, Joyce Linda of Peru; seven children, Cheryl LaMora and her husband Paul of Plattsburgh, Cindy Lee Zeglis and her companion Matt Burke of LaPaz, Mexico, Michael and his wife Pamela of Peru, Stephen and his wife Elaine of Essex Junction, Vt., Jephrey and his wife Rebecca of Morrisonville, Mark and his wife Dana of Fayetteville, N.C., and Kristian and his wife Michelle of Plattsburgh; eleven grandchildren, Ian, Allyce, Erin, Kirsten, Ryan, Kelsey, Michael, Kaitlyn, Wade, Emily and Brooklyn; one great-grandchild, Brady; two sisters, Patricia Williams of Jericho, Vt., and Judith Doorey of Plymouth, Mass.; three brothers and one sister-in-law, David Doorey of Decatur, Ga., Philip Doorey and his wife Sandy of Bridgeport, Conn., and Martin Doorey of Binghamton.

His parents, Francis and Pauline; his brother, Thomas; and his sister, Susan, predeceased him.

Calling hours will be Thursday, June 17, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the American Legion Post 1619 will meet Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 18, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Donations in his memory maybe made to Peru Rescue Squad.

Virginia S. LaPlant

Plattsburgh, NY — Virginia "Ginny" S. LaPlant, 71, died at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in the presence of her loving family.

She was born in Lowell, Mass., Aug. 29, 1932, the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Drum) Silk.

On May 14, 1955, she married Allen C. LaPlant in Lowell, Mass. She and Allen met while he was in the service. Ginny belonged to a roller skating-dance group and she accused Allen of tripping her at the roller skating arena.

Virginia was a well known and respected seamstress who owned and operated her own shop in Plattsburgh for numerous years. Her specialty was wedding gowns and the gowns for the entire bridal parties. She was also well known for her expertise with alterations.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Plattsburgh. She loved her family, spending time with them was the focus of her life.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years Allen of Plattsburgh; their son, Allen C. LaPlant II and his wife Debra; her daughter, Jodi Anne LaPlant Hutti; five grandsons, Jeffrey and wife Jessica, Brad and his wife Tara, Craig, James and Shawn; five great-grandchildren, Crae, Christien, Dawson Ashley and Alexis; her two sisters, Patricia Spinalla and husband Sam and Maggie Sheedy and husband Bill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, James Oral LaPlant; and her brother, Robert Silk.

There are no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Richmond Congregational Church, Richmond, Vt., with burial to follow in the Waterbury Center Cemetery in Waterbury Center, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Allen C. LaPlant, 7568 State Route 9, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Gifford Funeral Service, 22 Depot Street, Richmond, Vt., is in charge of arrangements.

Mabel Barbara Nason

PLATTSBURGH — Mabel Barbara (Brown) Nason, 86, of Willsboro, N.Y., died on June 15, 2004, at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.

Mrs. Nason was born in Clarenceville, Quebec, Canada, April 1, 1918, the daughter of Edward and Thursel Brown.

Mrs. Nason is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Anne and her husband Wayne Feeley of Willsboro, N.Y., and Beulah Ardell and her husband Douglas West of Reber, N.Y.; four grandsons and one granddaughter and their spouses, Scott and his wife Kim, David and his fiancé Lori, Peter and his wife Monica, John and his fiancé Rebecca, and Robin and her husband Gerald; 13 great- grandchildren; one brother, James and his wife Shirley of Peterboro, Ontario; four sisters, Laura Elvidge, Irene Peterson and her husband Arthur, Esther and her husband Douglas of Peterboro, Ontario, and Judy Roy of Montreal; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, John Nason in 1999; and six brothers, Roland, Ross, George, Charles, Arthur, Donald and David.

She graduated from Feller Institute of Grande Ligne, Quebec and was a member of Willsboro Methodist Church and Wiley Rebekah Lodge in Highgate Center, Vt. She also was a member of the Purple Hat Club, Cook’s Corner, Willsboro Garden Club, Farm Bureau, UMW and RSVP.

She enjoyed cooking, painting, gardening, reading and especially her family and many friends. She was a very active resident at Horace Nye Home for over four years and participated in every activity. She especially enjoyed visiting and playing games with her friends at the Home. The staff was part of her extended family.

Calling hours will be Thursday, June 17, at the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro, N.Y., from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, June 18, at the Willsboro Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the Reber Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you make a donation to the Horace Nye Home Activity Department or the Willsboro Methodist Church.

DENNIS F. DOWNS, 82, of Weatherford Drive, Deltona, Fla., and formerly of Saranac, died at his home Thursday, June 10, 2004.

He was born Nov. 11, 1921 in Saranac the son of Bert and Dora Downs.

A Mass of Christian burial was held in Deltona Monday, June 14. Deltona Memorial, in Orange City, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Helen M. O’Connell, 86, of Flynn Avenue, Plattsburgh, died on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born on Dec. 8, 1917, daughter of Costas and Anna (Dionitis) Gerolimatos.

A graveside service was held on Monday, June 14, in Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh with the Rev. John Yonkovig, pastor, of St. Peter’s Church officiating.

Arrangements were with Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Esperanza "Fran" Ales, 72, of Wood Manor Drive, Plattsburgh, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

She was born in the Philippines on June 6, 1932, daughter of Esquilla and Pacita (Marmita) Perez.

Calling hours will be Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 21, at 11 a.m. from St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh.

Carlton E. Stacy, 72, of Battery Street, Ticonderoga died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at his home in Ticonderoga, surrounded by his beloved family.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time and are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga.
