Robert M. Lucia

1942-2004

Holyoke, Mass. —Robert "Bob" M. Lucia, 61, of Sargeant Street, Holyoke, Mass., departed this life Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass.

Born Nov. 18, 1942, in Holyoke, he grew up in Altona, N.Y.

He returned to Holyoke in 1952 where he attended Precious Blood School and later retired from the Kellogg Brush Company in Easthampton. Bob was truly a man with a big heart, exemplified by kindness and generosity to family, friends and acquaintances, as well as his love and care for animals.

His parents, Rose Delima (Carey) Lucia Sicard and William Lucia predeceased him. His brother, Eugene Lucia also predeceased him.

He leaves a brother, Andrew Lucia and his partner Judith Kennedy of Chicopee and a brother, Lionel Lucia of Peru, N.Y. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Viola (Warren) Lucia of Altona, N.Y.; four nieces; and four nephews; as well as several great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins. Paternal grandparents were Joseph and Melissa (Bushey/Boucher) Lucia/ Lussier. Maternal grandparents were James Carey and Emma (Lamontagne) Carey Thibeault of Canada. Paternal great-grandparents were Louis and Cecile (Boulerice) Lussier. Bob Lucia was a descendant of Jacques L’Huissier (Lussier, etc.) the original ancestor who emigrated to Canada from France. Bob, was also a descendant of Etienne Lussier (Lucier) who helped settle the Oregon Territory.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 19, at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Cemetery, Altona, N.Y. Tylunus Funeral Home of Chicopee, Mass., handled arrangements.

Donald W. Rowe

Ellenburg Depot — Donald W. Rowe, 82, of Ellenburg Depot died Monday evening, June 14, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Born in Ellenburg on Sept. 15, 1921, he was the son of Norman and Jennie (Mellon) Rowe.

Don was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Ellenburg Veterans of Foreign War and of the Knights of Columbus.

A farmer for over 50 years, he also worked at Alcoa in Massena and then Republic Steel in Lyon Mountain.

Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, the former Jeannette Boulerice of Ellenburg Depot; five sons, Donald Rowe and his fiancée’ Lori Cook of Burke, Gary and Julie Rowe of Rouses Point, Paul and Heidi Rowe of Rouses Point, Randy Rowe of Loudenville and Keith and Julie Rowe of Ellenburg Depot; nine daughters, Sue and Wayne Brooks of Boise, Idaho, Jane and Donald Manor of Ellenburg Depot, Betty and Eddie Bushey of Altona, Debbie and Alan Cardin of Rouses Point, Barbara and Dennis Phillips of Rouses Point, Karen and Terry Delaney of Mooers, Linda and Alton Parker of Clifton Park, Sandra and Francis Duquette of Morrisonville and Donna and Brian Kavanaugh of Rouses Point; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Marge Rowe of Ellenburg Depot; a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Alfred Sweet of Chateaugay; 34 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Two sons, James and Alan Rowe died earlier. Four brothers, Harold, Morton, Ross and Vernon Rowe; and a sister, Helen Brady, also died earlier.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. from St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ann’s Roof Fund or to the Mooers Fire Department.

Donald Kenneth Wilks

Darien, Conn. — Donald Kenneth Wilks, a longtime resident of Darien and Rowayton Conn., died at his home in Darien this Sunday afternoon, June 13, 2004. The cause of death was complications of cancer first detected in September 2003. He was 55 years old.

Don went through the entire Darien school system, graduating second in his class from Darien High School in 1967, where he was also captain of the newly formed soccer team. He went on to Harvard University where he majored in economics and engineering. He was a member of the track team and graduated in 1971.

Following graduation, he joined Wilks Scientific Corporation where he helped develop a line of portable gas analyzers which became widely used for OSHA compliance testing. Don later organized the company’s European manufacturing and sales facility in Milton Keynes, England frequently traveling to continental Europe to support foreign agents.

In 1980, he joined General Analysis Corporation where he designed a beverage monitoring system for the soft-drink bottling industry. Eventually, more than half of the Coca-Cola and Pepsi bottling lines throughout the world were equipped with the monitors he designed. Don left as president of General Analysis Corporation to join SensIR Technologies in Danbury, Conn., where he was a senior engineer and again doing what he loved so much, designing analytical instruments.

Don assisted in the development of SensIR’s line of infrared microscopes and their Homeland Security White Powder Identifier which came into great demand following 9/11. In spite of his illness, with his typical tenacity, Don remained active up until the end.

Alone, in February of 2004 Don’s name was listed by the U.S. Patent office as a coinventor of a mid-infrared spectrometer attachment to light microscopes.

Don was an avid sportsman, enjoying many winter and summer activities. Having grown up on Long Island Sound, he had a particular passion for the water and was happiest sailing out on his boat, "Connecticut Yankee" which he kept at Wilson Cove Yacht Club in Rowayton where he was a member. His wife and son had many happy days and nights out on the boat with him. Don was also a member of Wee Burn Country Club in Darien where he enjoyed playing golf.

Donald is survived by his wife, Maureen FitzPatrick Wilks; their son, Patrick Donald Wilks; his mother and father, Laura and Paul A. Wilks of Darien; his brother, Mark H. Wilks of New London, N.H.; his sister, Sandra Wilks Rintoul of Boulder Creek, Calif.; and 16 nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, at Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road in Darien, Conn. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 18, 2004, at St. John Parish, 1986 Post Road, Darien, Conn., with burial following at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the C. Anthony and Jean Whittingham Cancer Center of Norwalk Hospital by sending them to the attention of Warren G. Clayda Irene Cote

Plattsburgh, N.Y./

Winooski, VT — Clayda Irene Cote, 82, passed away on June 14, 2004, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Clayda was born May 7, 1922, the daughter of the late Frederick and Irene (Rock) Carter of Ellenburg, N.Y.

She was employed at the DeGoesbriand Hospital in Burlington for nearly 20 years.

Mrs. Cote is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Dan (Janice) Fullington of Milton, Vt., Mrs. James (Eunice) LeClair of Churubusco, N.Y., Ms. Gail Clark of Malone, N.Y., and Mrs. Fred (Arlene) Jackson of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; one son, Francis J. Barcomb Jr. and his wife Joy of Cadyville, N.Y.; three granddaughters, Stacey Orgettas, Lori LeClair and Heather Miller; seven grandsons, Britt Parsons, Scott and Toby LeClair, Troy Clark, Kris, Tim and Brandon Barcomb; several great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives Leonard and Gilberta "Gail" Carter of Merrill, N.Y., and Lester and Norma Carter of Chateaugay, N.Y.

Mrs. Cote was predeceased by both of her husbands, Francis Barcomb Sr. and Ovila Cote; one sister, Mrs. David (Irma) Bushey; and two brothers, Leeward Carter and Harold Carter.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, Winooski. Interment will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Winooski at the convenience of the family.

Dorothy Mullooly

WESTPORT — Dorothy (Jinny) Mullooly, 82, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Champlain Valley Physicians

Hospital in Plattsburgh.

She was born June 26, 1921, in Oneonta, N.Y., the daughter of Martin L.V. and Gladys (Eldridge) Merchant.

Jinny was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was an avid Mets fan and enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and doing crossword puzzles.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Eileen and Anthony Nocera of

Lindenhurst, N.Y., and Ann Mullooly of New Hyde Park, Long Island, N.Y.; one son, Patrick W. Mullooly of Freeport, Long Island, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Anthony, Patrick and Kaitlin Nocera; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara and Stu Winsman of Westport, Nancy Merchant of Ilion, N.Y.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Sandra Merchant of Norfolk, N.Y., and Rev. Douglas and Sue Merchant of Cazenovia, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Patrick J. Mullooly; a sister, Ellen Blann; and a brother, Martin Merchant Jr.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 16 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philip Neri in Westport. A burial will follow in Black River Cemetery.

Jeanette I. Koechel

Westport — Jeanette I. Koechel, 65, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at her home.

She was born Aug. 28, 1948, in the Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of Emmanualle and Perina (Borgi) Christodolus.

She enjoyed writing, gardening and traveling. She was very active as a volunteer for the Families First, Al-a-non, a driver for the Office for the Aging and served the Literacy Volunteers of America, as a board member, as well as a tutor.

She is survived by her husband, David James Koechel of Westport; her children and their spouses, David and Roann Koechel of Milton, N.Y., Donna and Robert Thompson of Westport, Daniel Koechel of Lewis, Debra and James Kahler of Westport and Karen and Richard Larsen of Goshen, N.Y.; two nephews, Michael Koechel of Marlboro, N.Y., and Stephen and Rita Koechel of Kingston, N.Y.; one brother, Nicholas and Jeanette Christodolus of Pensicola, Fla.; two sisters, Marie Christodolus of Kingston, N.Y., and Georgia and Wayne Rarity of Kingston, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at W.M. Marvin’s Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Michael J. Doorey, 70, of Main Street, Peru, N.Y., died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility, Burlington, Vt.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.

Mabel Nason, 86, of the Horace Nye Home, Elizabethtown, N.Y., and formerly of Willsboro died at CVPH Medical Center Tuesday, June 15, 2004.

A full obituary will follow in tomorrow’s paper.

Genevieve C. Bushy, 86, of Greenwood Street, Lake Placid and a former resident of Wilmington, N.Y., and Sebring, Fla., died at her home Monday, June 14, 2004.

She was born in Fort Monroe, Va., Aug. 3, 1917, the daughter of John and Catherine Courtney.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Plaice. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Linda McInIntyre will officiate. Burial will follow in North Elba Cemetery.

Nancy R. Brown, 79, of 420 Old Military Road, Lake Placid, N.Y., died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Uihlein Mercy Center.

She was born in New York City on Sept. 3, 1924, the daughter of Daniel and Donata (Tricarico) Fanelli.

There are no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Rev. Michael Gaffney will officiate. The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.

Robert B. McCasland, 55, of Cascade Road, Lake Placid, N.Y., died at his home Tuesday, June 15, 2004.

He was born in Inglewood, N.J., July 18, 1948, the son of Norman and Gloria (Knotts) McCasland.

There are no calling hours. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Phyllis Kurtz, 75, recently of Saranac Village at Will Rogers, died Monday, June 14, 2004 at her home.

Born in Canadaigua, N.Y., on March 25, 1929, she was the daughter of William F. and Margaret (Whalen) Sherry.

Calling hours will be held at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday at St. Bernard’s Church with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

Mildred D. Marello, 88, of Petrova Avenue, Saranac Lake, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake.

Born in Saranac Lake, N.Y., on July 28, 1915, she was the daughter of Floyd and Florence (Patnode) Salls.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Linda McIntyre, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating, Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Saranac Lake.

James A . Latour, 81, Onchiota, N.Y., died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake.

Born in Saranac Lake on Aug. 31, 1922, he was the son of Leon and Mary (Hart) Latour.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
