Published: 10/30/04Harold "Bud" ThompsonClifton Park and Mineville, N.Y. — Harold "Bud" Thompson, 80, of 7 Beechwood Dr., Clifton Park and 13 Federal St., Mineville, N.Y., died June 3, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, N.Y. He was born Nov. 5, 1923, at Mineville, N.Y., the son of Harold B. and Grace (Spring) Thompson. He was a 1941 graduate of Mineville public schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during both World War II and the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Signalman Second Class. Thompson was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Medal, European-Middle East Medal with one star, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, Phillipine Liberation Medal with one star, the Battle for Britain medal, U.S. Merchant Marine Medal, the New York State Distinguished Service Medal, the Combat Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He was a life member and past commander of Mineville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5802, the Halfmoon American Legion Post 1450, the Sampson Navy Veterans and the Albany Chapter of U.S. Navy Armed Guard Veterans. Following military service, he was employed by Republic Steel Corp. as an electrician, both in Mineville, N.Y., and Liberia, West Africa, for a period of 27 years; the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration as a federal mine inspector for 17 years and Skyway Roofing Inc., Albany, N.Y., as safety director and fleet manager until 2003. He was a respected safety and health professional throughout the Northeastern District. He and Mrs. Thompson also owned and operated a general insurance agency, The Champlain Agency Corporation, in Mineville for a number of years. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Marietta Corbo Thompson; one son, John F. and Karla Thompson of Collierville, Tenn.; two daughters, Sandra M. and David Blaise of Mineville and Rosemary G. and Michael Toomey of Gilbert, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Thompson and Preston Sprague of Mechanicville, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sons, Harold Jr. in 1997 and Howard "Stan" in 2003; one grandson, Kevin; also two older brothers, Howard Stanley Thompson, who was killed in action during World War II in France during the invasion in 1944 and George F. Thompson in 2004. He was a communicant of the Church of St. Edward the Confessor, Clifton Park and the Church of All Saints, Mineville, N.Y. Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, June 7th, at 11 a.m. at the Church of All Saints in Mineville. Interment will be in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Moriah. Della T. HughesTiconderoga — Della T. Hughes, 83, of The Portage, passed away Friday, June 4, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Ticonderoga on June 25, 1920, the daughter of the late Wilbert and Della (Lucia) Hebert. Her husband, John H. Hughes, was killed in action during World War II in Italy on Dec. 8, 1943. Mrs. Hughes was a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga and was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. Before her retirement, Mrs. Hughes was employed by New York Telephone Company as a business office representative for 31 years. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, George Hebert and Leo Hebert; and one sister, Lillian Ryan. Survivors include two sisters, Eleanor Manley of Ticonderoga and Jane Wright of Charleston, S.C.; one brother, William Hebert of Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Monsignor C. John McAvoy will officiate. The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot of St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary's School, 301 Amherst Ave., Ticonderoga, NY 12883 or High Peaks Hospice, P.O. Box 195, Mineville, NY 12956. Linda Darlene BenwayWhallonsburgh — Linda Darlene Benway, 55, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital with her family by her side. She was born July 2, 1948, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Lloyd and Leona (Drouillard) Jackson. Linda enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, crocheting and scratch-off lottery tickets. She also loved to spend time with her family and her dear friends she worked with at Commonwealth. She is survived by her husband, Frank Benway of Whallonsburgh; her mother, Leona Jackson of Utica, Mich.; two daughters and their husbands, Darlene and Smitty Marvin of Elizabethtown and Beverly and Tom Federico of Little Falls, N.Y.; one brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd "Buddy" and Dotty Jackson of East Pointe, Mich.; three stepchildren, including stepson Jeff and his wife Carol Benway; and four grandchildren, Tony and Tracy Federico and Brock and Connor Marvin. She was predeceased by her father, Lloyd Jackson. Calling hours will be held Monday, June 7th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at W.M. Marvin's Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 8th, at 10 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in New Burt Cemetery. Makenna Hope CorcoranMorrisonville — Makenna Hope Corcoran, of 882 Mason St., took God by the hand and became one of his special angels on Thursday, June 3, 2004. She was born on May 8, 2004, the daughter of Sara Broadwell and Bill Corcoran. Makenna inspired many and provided her family with gifts of strength, courage and hope. She is survived by her parents; a grandmother, Lillian Corcoran of Rouses Point; an uncle and aunt, Stephen and Susan Broadwell of Peru; an aunt, Kerry Corcoran of Windham, Maine; two cousins, Kelly and Timothy Broadwell of Peru; and two great-grandmothers, Helen Matott of Rouses Point and Verda Norcross of Morrisonville. Makenna was predeceased by her grandparents, Keith and Sue Broadwell and William Corcoran. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9th, at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Makenna Corcoran to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Special Purpose Fund, or to one's charity of choice. Gilbert TrombleyPlattsburgh — On June 5, 2004, Gilbert Trombley passed into the hands of the Lord after a long but courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Feb. 4, 1931, in Plattsburgh. Gil was in the U.S. Marines from 1952 to 1954. He was proud of his 43 years of service at Georgia Pacific in Plattsburgh. Gil was married to Barbara Phair in 1955. They would have celebrated their 49th anniversary on June 18th. Gil was the father of three children who he cherished dearly. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife; two daughters and a son, Debra and George Giroux, Steven and Susan Trombley and Lisa and David Imhoff. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren, Chris, Teri, Matt and Dan Giroux, Emily, Stephanie, Pam and Beth Trombley and David, Kayla and Casey Imhoff. Gil was one of 15 children. He is survived by four sisters, Roseann Soucy, Almira Fredette, Rita Carron and Gloria Morrow; and three brothers, Andrew, Alfred and Thomas Trombley. He was predeceased by his mother, Alma Trombley (Roy) and his father Felix Trombley; three brothers, Silas, Felix and Joseph; and four sisters, Delima Wood, Aurora Fontaine, Helena Mitchell and Theresa Curtis. Gil loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed living in Florida during the winter where he made many wonderful friends. He also enjoyed fishing amd puttering around in his shop. After he became sick he spent many hours watching "his" beautiful birds. He also enjoyed reading. Gil learned to crochet while in Florida and was extremely proud of the blankets he made for his daughters and granddaughters and they will treasure them always. Though he passed away, he leaves his family and friends with many wonderful memories. Calling hours will be Monday, June 7th, at R.W. Walker Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 8th, at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
