Alan N. Bean Jr.

Bridport, Vt — Spc. Alan N. Bean Jr. died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Iskandariya, Iraq, while serving with the 186th Field Artillery Unit that was deployed from Vermont in January of 2004.

Alan was born in Burlington, Vt., on March 11, 1982. He grew up in Charlotte, Vt., and attended Champlain Valley Union High School.

Alan joined the Army National Guard in 2000, attending boot camp in Fort Knox, Ky., and Advanced Individualized Training in Edgewood, Md. Alan was promoted to sergeant posthumously.

A country boy by nature, Alan loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is accurately described as a man that was not concerned with material possessions and was perfectly happy with his rusty pickup truck and a six-pack of beer. He had a sense of humor that was only overpowered by his kindness. To know him was to love him.

Alan is survived by his 3-month-old son, Gabriel Alan Bean of Yarmouth, Maine; his parents, Kim (Reynolds) and Alan Bean Sr. of Bridport, Vt.; a brother, Ernest Bean of Bridport, Vt.; a sister, Tricia Bean and her boyfriend Matthew Tetreault of Johnson and Marshfield, Vt.; his paternal grandfather, Norman Bean of Charlotte, Vt.; his maternal grandparents, Morris Reynolds of Wadhams, N.Y., and Shirley and Lyle Litchfield of Willsboro, N.Y.; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Alan was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Jane Bean of Charlotte, Vt.

Calling hours will be held at Brown-McClay Funeral Home, 48 South Maple Street, Vergennes, Vt., from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday. Services are to be held at St. Peter’s Church directly after. Burial will be in the Grand View Cemetery in Charlotte. There will be a reception to celebrate Alan’s life at the family home in Bridport. Everyone is welcome.

Alice F. Kaufman

ELLENBURG CENTER — Alice F. Kaufman, 78, wife of the late James E. Kaufman, formerly of Cheektowaga, N.Y., died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in the presence of family in Akron, Ohio.

She was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Buffalo, the daughter of the late John and Florence (Borowiak) Mack.

Mrs. Kaufman had retired from Buffalo Envelope and moved to Ellenburg Center in 1983 with husband James. She recently relocated to Akron, Ohio.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas and Sally Kaufman of East Aurora, N.Y.; Dennis Kaufman and partner Denise Stitzinger of Keeseville, N.Y.; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Deborah) Ratliff of Akron, Ohio; sister, Dolores Lazarski of Depew, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Janine, Lynn, Paul, Kim, Kristin, Kate and Mitchell; three great-grand-children, Sarina, Kelsey and Samantha. Also Courtney and Jennifer Stitzinger; and special four legged friends Daisy and Bear.

Cremation has taken place in Akron, Ohio. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Drown Funeral Home in Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., with a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday. at St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg, N.Y.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, Ohio 44333.

Willard M. Stevenson

MORRISVILLE — Knowing the love of his family, and with a song in his heart, Willard M. Stevenson, 85, passed on to eternal life at Crouse Community Center in Morrisville, N.Y. on Thursday, May 27, 2004. He was born, June 9, 1918, in Franklin, Pa., a son of the late Rev. Maurice D. and Esther (Myers) Stevenson. Graduated from Edinboro, Pa. High School in 1936 as Salutatorian of his class. Being an avid reader, he was self-educated in many areas. On Nov., 7, 1941 Willard was united in marriage to the former H. Jane Chamberlain in Hancock, N.Y.. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Willard was at one time employed as Service Manager at Morrisville Motor’s and later SUNY Morrisville until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Morrisville Community Church, a past Elder and choir member, also a member of the American Legion Post 136 of Morrisville and the local CSEA of the State University of New York.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Jane (Chamberlain); two daughters, Mrs. Priscilla Suits of Morrisville and Mrs. Constance Miller and her husband Donald of Plattsburgh; a son, Richard Stevenson and wife Dawn of Morrisville; two brothers, James H. Stevenson of Greenville, S.C., and Stanley Stevenson of Hedgesville, W. Va.; a sister, Sue York of Earlville.

He was the loving grandfather of seven grandchildren, Debra (Suits) Rifenburg and husband James of Wampsville, Pamela (Suits) Delucia and husband Dan of North Syracuse, Julia Jane Miller of Plattsburgh, Krista (Miller) Jiampetti and husband Stephen of Castleton, Laura (Miller) Stevens and husband Scott of Morrisonville, Cheryl Stevenson and Keith Stevenson both of Morrisville; 11 great-grand-children, Alissa, Angela and Tyler Rifenburg, Brittani and Kaylee DeLucia, Jonas Miller, Montana and Max Jiampetti, Charlotte, Sophia and Luke Stevens.

A brother, M. Verne Stevenson predeceased him.

The family will hold a private memorial service. Interment will be in Morrisville Cemetery.

Contributions in Willard’s memory may be made to the Crouse Community Center, Morrisville N.Y. or Morrisville Community Church, Morrisville, N.Y.

Arrangements entrusted to the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar Street, Morrisville, N.Y.

Constance F. Goodhartt, 93, formerly of Rouses Point, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Hardwick, Vt., on Jan. 1, 1911, the daughter of Charles and Theresa (Ryan) Fitch.

There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Champlain is in charge of arrangements.
