Rubert "Butch" Charles Chase Jr.

Plattsburgh — Rubert "Butch" Charles Chase Jr., 51, of Plattsburgh, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on March 11, 1953, the son of Rubert C. Chase Sr. and Louise Grady,

He was married to Cynthia McLean. Rubert and his wife were separated but remained good friends. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his three daughters, Christina Abare of Plattsburgh, Elizabeth Chase and her companion Todd Lafountain of Moores and Kayla Chase of Peru; one son, Rubert Chase III of Plattsburgh; his wife Cynthia Chase and her companion Dennis Martineau of Plattsburgh; his stepmothers Irene Chase of Plattsburgh and Dorothea Chase of Harkness; three sisters, Priscilla McLean of Plattsburgh, Laurie and Steve LaPoint of Plattsburgh and Christina Young of Randolph, Vt.; two brothers, John Chase of Morrisonville and Chester Chase of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Christina M. Chase, Katelynn M. Chase and Todd LaFountain Jr.; and his companion of six years, Linda Mooney of Keeseville.

He was predeceased by his father, Rubert C. Chase Sr.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Harkness Cemetery.

Harry T. Shaw

Port Henry — Harry T. Shaw, 82, of Broad Street, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Moses-Ludington Nursing Home in Ticonderoga following a long illness.

Harry was born in Barkersville, N.Y. on Feb. 25, 1922, the son of Effie and Harry T. Shaw.

He was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, attended Union College and was a graduate of Albany Law School's Class of 1951.

Mr. Shaw was a member and past secretary of the Essex County Bar Association.

In 1954, Harry opened a private law practice in the Village of Port Henry and maintained that practice for over 40 years. He was the village attorney for 30 of those years. During his practice, Mr. Shaw served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and was the attorney for some area banks and other organizations.

He was also a member of the Morning Sun Lodge 142 Free and Accepted Masons, the Elks Lodge No. 1494 in Ticonderoga and the Plattsburgh Chapter of the Barbershop Chorus. Harry was a very positive person and believed in living life to its fullest. He was an avid golfer and loved his life in the Adirondacks.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Wilson Shaw; a daughter, Nancy O'Connor and her husband James of Loudonville, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Brian, John and Grace O'Connor; a brother, Robert Shaw and his wife Dorcas; two sisters, June Bennett of Columbiaville, N.Y., and Irene Jones of Scotia, N.Y. Harry leaves two sister-in-laws, Nancy Wilson of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Elizabeth Shaw of Stottville, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa W. Shaw; two brothers, Dr. Rosewell Shaw and William Shaw; and his sister, Mary Fonda.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Centre Glenville United Methodist Church, corner of Bolt Road and Route 147 (Sacandaga Road) officiated by Rev. Grace Ross. Burial will follow at Barkersville Cemetery, Town of Providence.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Harry T. Shaw to the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home, the Moriah Ambulance Squad or to one's favorite charity.

Bertha D. Saunders

South Hero, Vt. — Bertha D. Saunders, 96, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care.

She was born in Pittsburg, N.H., on Sept. 20, 1907, the fourth child of Andrew J. and Ida (Woodward) Holmes.

On Sept. 14, 1931, she married Albert Marvin Saunders in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Mrs. Saunders was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the soil conservation department.

She is survived by a son, Rodney Saunders and his wife Joan of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; daughter Beverly James and husband David of Humble, Texas; five grandchildren, William Saunders of Ohio, Barbara Favreau of Florida, Robert Saunders of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Patty James of Texas and Toni Lummas of Texas; five great-grandchildren, Christopher and Renee Favreau, Jennifer Saunders, Amber Ward and Logan Lummas.

She was predeceased by her husband, Albert M. Saunders on Sept. 14, 1999; and siblings Doris Reynolds, Shirley Holmes and Russell Holmes.

Visiting hours will be held Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. in Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home, 71 S. Union St., Burlington. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Prim Road, Colchester, with burial to follow in Mountainview Cemetery, Essex Center.

Rollind C. "Toby" Tobrocke

Lusk, Wyo. — Rollind C. "Toby" Tobrocke, 78, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at his home.

Toby was born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 14, 1925, son of Wendall and Ida (Matott) Tobrocke.

Toby graduated from Plattsburgh High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the 82nd Airborne Division, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Toby was an electrical lineman for NYSEG and a member of the local IBEW 1249.

Toby is survived by his former wife Betty of Plattsburgh; three daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Tobrocke of Ohio, Trudi and Gary Bouvia of Plattsburgh and Heidi Tobrocke of Plattsburgh; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Karl Tobrocke of Plattsburgh, Kurt and Cheryl Tobrocke of Plattsburgh, Fritz and Joni Jill Tobrocke of Plattsburgh and Hans and Lorraine Tobrocke of Coventry, Conn.; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A military funeral will be held in Lusk, Wyo., on Friday at 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held in Plattsburgh at a later date.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Adirondack Humane Society.

Lawrence G. Putnam

Port Henry — Lawrence G. Putnam, 74, of Switchback Road, Port Henry, N.Y., died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at the Porter Medical Center, Middlebury, Vt.

He was born June 25, 1929, in Port Henry, N.Y., the son of Kenneth Putnam Sr. and Florence (Cowin) Putnam.

Lawrence was a self-employed farmer. He had also worked at the Moriah Central School. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Marine Corp.

He was predeceased by his wife, Laura (Cifrian) Putnam on May 10, 1994.

Survivors include his daughter, Lorrie Rafferty of Crown Point; his son, Larry Putnam of Port Henry; his grandson, Andrew Rafferty of Crown Point; three sisters, McIvina Baker of Port Henry, Anne Boyle of Port Henry and Lynne Tompkins of Lewis; a brother, Paul Putnam of Colchester, Vt.; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A service will follow at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Moriah.

Leslie E. Ubl

PLATTSBURGH — Leslie E. Ubl, 59, formerly of South Catherine Street, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at the Albany Medical Center.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 21, 1944, the son of Walter and Charlotte (Fifield) Ubl.

Leslie graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1962 and attended college at Canton ATC. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966, during which time he performed embassy duty in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Ubl worked with his father at UbI Plumbing for several years before taking over the business in 1973, owning and operating the business for 25 years before retiring due to illness.

Survivors include one son, Jonathan UbI and his wife Christina of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Kerri UbI of North Carolina; his father, Walter Ubl Sr., of Plattsburgh; two brothers, Walter UbI of New York City and Alan Ubl of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and one granddaughter, Kennedy Ubl.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at noon at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jean V. Peters, 80, of Hague, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga.

She was born in Canton, Miss., the daughter of the late James F. and Beulah D. Rogers.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time and are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga.

James W. Malark, 85, formerly of Constable, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at the Franklin County Nursing Home, Malone, N.Y., where he had been a patient since Feb. 19, 2001.

He was born in Ellenburg, N.Y., on Oct. 5, 1918, the son of Dennis and Cloriasa (Beach) Malark.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday in St. George's Church, with Rev. John Demo officiating. Burial will take place at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Constable.

Clarence Bigelow, 85, of the Horace Nye Home and formerly of Westport, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004.

Arrangements are incomplete with W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.

Richard Rabideau, 79, of Standish, N.Y., died May 25, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
