Wilmer "Bud" Barber

Dannemora — Wilmer "Bud" Barber, 67, of Dannemora, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 21, 2004, at his residence, surrounded by loving family and friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Bud was born on Jan. 10, 1937, the son of his late parents, Ross William and Beatrice (King) Barber at the family farm at Chazy Lake.

Bud graduated from Ellenburg Central School, where he was an outstanding athlete. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves, was active with the Dannemora American Legion and was an avid horseshoe player, having many awards as a member of the 1619 American Legion Club.

He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus and communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora, Out Back Riders A.T.V. Club and Lot 32 Hunting Club.

He was an enthusiastic woodworker, of which many young and old enjoyed getting his gifts. He was a longtime snowmobiler and was a strong believer that the state maintain riding trails.

Bud worked for Bailey's Ford in Dannemora for many years, then for the Village of Dannemora as superintendent and retired from the Town of Dannemora as supervisor due to ill health.

He was united in marriage to Jane M. Whalen on Feb. 15, 1958, at St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg and enjoyed 46 years of marriage at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Barber; four children, James and April Barber of Dannemora, Tammy and Christopher Munn of Carlisle, Pa., Pamela and John O'Neill of Chateaugay and Mary and Tony Tetreault of Dannemora; eight and one-half grandchildren, Ryan and Christopher Munn of Carlisle, Pa., Lindsay, Kaitlyn and Eric O'Neill of Chateaugay, Brandon and Devin Barber of Dannemora and Alexandra Tetreault of Dannemora.

He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony "Tony" and Phyllis Barber of Malone and Howard "Pete" and Mary Laura Barber of Chazy Lake.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday from St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Dorothy W. Ryan

Lake Placid — Dorothy W. Ryan, 86, of Grandview Avenue, Lake Placid, N.Y., died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

She was born in Clintonville, April 25, 1918, the daughter of Loren and Alza (McCann) Wrisley.

Dot was a graduate of the Lake Placid High School Class of 1936 and the Katharine Gibbs School in New York City. She had been a secretary and bookkeeper for the Forest Press at the Lake Placid Club, retiring in 1982.

Her husband, Donald G. Ryan, died in Lake Placid on Nov. 9, 2000.

Dorothy is survived by one son, Paul Ryan and his wife Janice of Niskayuna, N.Y.; one brother, Raymond Wrisley and his wife Betty of Simsbury, Conn.; and three grandchildren, Michael, Tim and Kelsey Ryan.

Another brother, Donald, died earlier.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the North Country Association for the Visually Impaired, P.O. Box 1338, Lake Placid, NY 12946 or the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 107, Lake Placid, NY 12946.

The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Hebert

Rouses Point — Ethel Hebert, 84, passed away at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point on May 20, 2004.

She was married to Raymond Hebert Sr., who is also deceased.

Raymond Hebert Jr., Roland Hebert, Joyce Moore, Beverly McKinnon, Stanley Hebert and his wife Pearl; four sisters; grandchildren and great - grandchildren survive Mrs. Hebert.

She is predeceased by Roy Hebert; two brothers; and two sisters.

The burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Champlain EMS or St. Mary's Church In Champlain.

Arrangements are with the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.

Irma M. Ryan

Plattsburgh — Irma M. Ryan, 91, formerly of William Street, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Facility.

She was born in Saranac on March 2, 1913, the daughter of Timothy and Mabel (Lyon) Healy.

Irma married George H. Ryan in 1953 in the Town of Chester; he died in March 1983.

Irma graduated from Dannemora High School in 1931. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh.

Survivors include one son, George P. Ryan of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Beverly Marshall of Lorton, Va., and Joan Lusk of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Amber Stiles, Erika Stiles and Corey Lusk; one niece and one nephew.

One brother, Philip Healy and one sister, Vera Hannon, died earlier.

Private funeral services will be held for the family with burial to follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Plattsburgh.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army or the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Barbara Ann Smith

Flat Rock, Mich. and Mineville — Barbara Ann Smith, 66, formerly of Mineville, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2004, at her home in Flat Rock, Mich.

Dear daughter of the late Margaret Fuller (Scorsome) and the late Robert Fuller. Loving wife of the late Ralph Mitchell Smith. Dearest mother of Deborah Halicki (Donald). Proud grandmother of Nicole, Jeffery and Andrew and adoring great-grandmother of Chase and Madison. She is also survived by her brother Richard Fuller; her aunt Geraldine White; and many very special cousins and their families.

Barbara was a part of history at Frontier Town. She worked there as a teenager and then again in her later years as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and crafts.

Services will be held at Harland Funeral Home, 4279 Main St., Port Henry, N.Y., on Friday, May 21st, from 4 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at Church Of All Saints, Mineville, N.Y., on Saturday, May 22, at 9:30 a.m. with burial following at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Any donations are suggested to be made to the American Cancer Society.

John (Jack) M. Finn

LaJolla, Calif. — John (Jack) M. Finn died May 5, 2004, in LaJolla, Calif., at age 89. He was born to Della D. (Boule) Bulley and Fred L. Finn on May 21, 1914, in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

His uncle, Harry (Boule) Bulley and his great-uncle, Mitchell (Boule) Bulley, were keepers of the former lighthouse at the Lake Champlain breakwater.

Jack Finn was a graduate of Plattsburgh High School in 1932. In 1936, he graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., and he achieved his graduate degree in botany from the University of Michigan in 1937. Jack was an accomplished swimmer and he was employed at the Plattsburgh City Beach as a lifeguard during his college summers.

Jack Finn worked as a sales representative for Ward's Science Supplies. He spent many years living and working in Chicago, Ill. He retired and moved to San Diego, Calif.

Jack Finn gave unconditional love and loyalty to his family and friends. He was an avid genealogist, he had a passion for science and travel and he continued swimming until he was 87 years of age.

He is survived by cousin Melinda (Bulley) Borshoff and her husband Dr. Fred Schamu and their daughter Sonya Borshoff of Rochester, N.Y. He is also survived by Arthur LaMarche and his son Phillip LaMarche of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Bill Thompson of Allentown, Pa., and other cousins.

Donations can be made to local Diabetes Foundations.

Anne Nolan, 99, formerly of 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the Uihlein Mercy Center Nursing home, where she had been a resident since 1995.

She was born in County Mayo-Ballina, Ireland, on March 1, 1905, the daughter of Thomas and Ann (O'Hora) Nolan.

Ms. Nolan’s family will receive friends at the Uihlein Mercy Center Chapel on Monday from 11 to 11:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held immediately following at noon at the Uihlein Mercy Center Chapel, with Rev. Patrick O'Riely officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

The Fortune-Keough Funeral Home of Saranac Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Frederick O. Weldon, 80, formerly of Mooers Forks, died Dec. 31, 2003, at the Veterans Hospital in Syracuse.

The last farewell will be held on Friday, May 28, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Mooers Forks.

The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot is in charge of arrangements.
