Ernest Roberts

Zephyrhills, Fla. — Ernest Roberts, 86, of Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away April 19, 2004.

Mr. Roberts moved from Peru, N.Y., to Zephyrhills, Fla., ten years ago.

Ernest was born June 22, 1917, in Saranac N.Y., the son of William and Melina (Carron) Roberts.

He is survived by his wife, the former Eva Plumadore. They were married on Sept. 16, 1940.

He is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Alice Roberts of Plattsburgh N.Y., and Harley and Candice Roberts of Concord, N.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Leon Smart of Peru, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, James Roberts in 1991.

Mr. Roberts was a night watchman for McBride Chevrolet Dealership and was a member of the Catholic Church.

Services will be held May 23, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Harkness Cemetery.

John K. O'Donnell

Ellenburg Center — John K. O'Donnell, 76, of the Brandy Brook Road, Ellenburg Center died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y., where be had been a patient since April 28, 2004.

He was born in Churubusco, N.Y., on March 12, 1928, the son of John J. and Mabel (Dunn) O'Donnell.

He was married to Margaret Rubado on July 22, 1950, in St. John's Church, Plattsburgh.

Mr. O'Donnell is survived by his wife of 53 years a son and daughter-in-law, John and Rebecca O'Donnell of Oakfield, N.Y.; a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Peter Ignatowicz of Vernon, Conn.; six grandchildren, Shane Dunn, Shannon Dunn, Jennifer Ignatowicz, Darren Ignatowicz, John E. O'Donnell and Patrick O'Donnell; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Doris O'Donnell; two sisters-in-law, Virginia O'Donnell of Cocoa, Fla., and Vivian O'Donnell of Bradenton, Fla.

He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Hazel Hoff, Doris Burns and Dorothy Rodak; four brothers, Larry, Frank, Floyd and Howard O'Donnell.

Mr. O'Donnell worked for the Clinton County Highway Department, retiring in February 1991 after 44 years of service. He was a charter member of the Ellenburg Center Volunteer Fire Department, chairman of the Board of Fire Commissions, member of the Chateaugay Fish and Game Club and the Mountain Springs Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

There will be no calling hours. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on May 19 in St. Edmund's Church, Ellenburg with Rev. Joseph Wheelock officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Ellenburg Center Fire Department or St. Edmund's Church, Ellenburg.

Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

Iola M. Bayer

Peekskill — Iola M. Bayer, 87 years old, a resident of Peekskill since 1954, died May 17, 2004, at the Elant Nursing Home in Newburg, N.Y.

Mrs. Bayer was born on Aug. 6, 1916, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to Henry and Julia (Martineau) Prespare.

She married Lorne J. LaPan in 1938. Lorne LaPan was a casualty of World War II, dying in 1944.

In 1949, she married Charles S. Bayer, he was a past director of recreation for the City of Peekskill. Charles died on Jan. 7, 1985.

Mrs. Bayer had worked for Genung’s Department Store and the Peekskill Military Academy. When PMA closed she worked for Peekskill High School as a library aide. Mrs. Bayer attended the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill and in later years the Church of the Holy Spirit in Cortlandt Manor.

Mrs. Bayer is survived by a daughter, Patricia Prenderville; two sons, Robert and Philip Bayer; seven grandchildren; and six great-grand-children.

She was predeceased by one brother; and two sisters.

A memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the E.O. Curry Funeral Home, 313 No. James Street, Peekskill on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Hudson Valley/Rockland/Westchester NY Chapter, 785 Mamaroneck Road, White Plains, NY 10605-2523 would be appreciated.

MEMORIAL SERVICE

ASHLINE - A memorial service for Mary "Bette" Ashline, who died on April 17, 2004, in Ocala, Fla., will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Coopersville with Rev. Clyde Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

GRAVESIDE SERVICES

HARVEY - Graveside services for Deborah M. Harvey, who died Dec. 6, 2003, will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at 11 am at the Schuyler Falls Cemetery. The R.W. Walker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sheldon Hill Cemetery, Ellenburg Depot - Graveside services for Rose Eldred and Norma Wright will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 20. The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot is in charge of arrangements.

St. Edmund's Cemetery, Ellenburg - Graveside services for Myrtle Boyea and Louis Smith will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, May 21. The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot is in charge of arrangements.

Independence Cemetery, Saranac - Graveside services for Marion Atkinson will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 21. The O'Neill - Redden - Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.

DEATH NOTICES

Barbara Ann Smith of Bartlett Pond Road, Mineville, N.Y., died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at the Oakwood Hospital-Southshore Medical Center in Trenton, Mich.

She was born Jan. 29, 1938, the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Scoresome) Fuller.

Calling hours will be held Friday, May 21, 2004, from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 22, 2004, 9:30 am. at the Church of All Saints in Mineville, Monsignor John McAvoy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Moriah.

Seward W. Sweet Jr., 79, of Brothers Road, Massena, formerly of Fort Covington, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at his home, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his wife and children.

He was born in Malone, N.Y., on Oct. 23, 1924, the son of the late Seward W. and Bessie Moore Sweet Sr.

There are no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Fort Covington. Arrangements are through the Cappiello - McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home of Fort Covington.

Mary Louise Dynko, 46, of the Bear Swamp Road in Peru, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at her home.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Genevieve S. Sharlow, 90, formerly of Collins Way, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Mayfield, Vt., on March 31, 1914, the daughter of Camille M. and Bertha (Matott) Sorrell.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Floyd "Jerry" Bleaux, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Church officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
