Published: 10/30/04James H. KelleyPlattsburgh — James H. Kelley, 79, of Plattsburgh, died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, VT. He was born in Peru on April 1, 1925, the son of Eugene and Amelia (Duprey) Kelley. Mr. Kelley served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the American, Asiatic Pacific and European African Theatres. He was employed by Plattsburgh News Company for over 39 years and later retired from Burlington News. He enjoyed fishing, archery, golf and garage saling. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeannette (Langlois) Kelley of Plattsburgh; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Susan Kelley of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Marie Moore and her companion Brad Trombley of Plattsburgh; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Kelley of Plattsburgh, wife of late son Donald Kelley; a son-in-law, Michael Aley of Plattsburgh, husband of late daughter Nancy Aley; two sisters-in-law, Erma Kelley of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., wife of late brother Willard Kelley, Simone Kelley of Plattsburgh, wife of late brother John W. Kelley; his grandchildren, Donna Kelley, Shane Kelley, Bryan Kelley, Matthew Kelley, Derrick Aley and Danielle Moore of Plattsburgh and Bridget Hemm of Peru; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Bertha and Beatrice Fink also died earlier. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday from St. Augustine's Church in Peru. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow at the Peru VFW on Route 22B. The O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements. Ruth M. MasseySchenectady, NY — Ruth M. Massey, 85, of Schenectady, N.Y., died Friday, May 14, 2004, at St. Clare's Hospital. She was born May 3, 1919, in Schenectady, N.Y., daughter of the late William and Dora Fanning Goodwin. Ruth received her Bachelors in Science and her Masters of Science from the College of St. Rose. Ruth worked as a business teacher at the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School since the 1950's, retiring as the department chair in 1977. She was a communicant of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church and a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association and the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Retired Teachers Association. She and her late husband, Donald, were members of the Watervliet Elks. She truly enjoyed gardening and cooking. She married Donald O. Massey in 1960, he predeceased her in 2002. Survivors include a daughter, Anne Massey of Bloomington, Ind.; a sister, Jane Cristi of Scotia; a niece, Sara Henze; and several other nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, William Goodwin, Donald Goodwin and Robert Goodwin; and three sisters, Dorothy Quick, Helen Goodwin and Muriel Ott. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. from Light’s Funeral Home, 1428 State Street, Schenectady. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. A legacy candle ceremony will be celebrated at 7:45 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Contributions can be made in Ruth's name to the St. Luke's Restoration Fund, 1241 State Street, Schenectady, NY 12304 Tracy Ann VarmetteTiconderoga — Tracy Ann Varmette, 48, of Lord Howe Street, Ticonderoga, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 15, 2004, at the Moses Ludington Hospital. She was born in Ticonderoga Nov. 10, 1955, the daughter of the late Edward T. and Juanita M. (Putnam) Varmette of Ticonderoga. Tracy was a life long resident of Ticonderoga and a graduate of Ticonderoga High School. She was most recently employed by Wal-Mart of Ticonderoga. Survivors in addition to her mother include a brother, Paul D. Varmette of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by her aunts and cousins. Relatives and friends may call Monday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Wilcox and Regan Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow visiting hours at 3:30 p.m. Monday. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Valley View Cemetery Ticonderoga, N.Y. Beatrice R. GonyeaLyon Mountain — Beatrice R. Gonyea, 84, of Mountain Top Housing, Lyon Mountain died Friday, May 14, 2004, at her home. Born in Lyon Mountain, N.Y., on March 24, 1920, she was the daughter of Walter and Anna (Sorrell) Baker. She was married to Edward Gonyea on Jan. 25, 1937, in St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain. He predeceased her on May 4, 1975. Mrs. Gonyea is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Candy Gonyea of Lyon Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Guy Facteau of Lyon Mountain; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Adrian and Gladys Baker of Merrill, Andy and Millie Baker of Chateaugay Lake and Paul Baker of Lyon Mountain; four sisters and four brothers-in-law, Bernice and Thomas Trottier of Merrill, Theresa and Richard Fitzgerald of Massena, Marion and Wilbur Burdo of Cadyville and Vivian and Rowland Fournier of Ellenburg Depot; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Rayaw Pepin; a brother, Lawrence Baker, and two sons in infancy. Calling hours will be held at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 18 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19 in St. Bernard's Church with Monsignor Bernard Christman officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Lyon Mountain. Donations in her memory may be made to Lyon Mountain Fire Department. Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home. Luella Roxie LanctoLyon Mountain — Luella Roxie Lancto, 77, of Standish Road, Lyon Mountain died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y. Born in Lyon Mountain, N.Y., on June 20, 1926, she was the daughter of Harry and Roxie (Rubado) Lancto. Ms. Lancto is survived by two sisters, Marion Lancto of Lyon Mountain, N.Y., and Shirley Lancto of Lyon Mountain, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Mary (Lancto) Seymour; and two brothers, Walter and Raymond Lancto. Ms. Lancto graduated from Lyon Mountain High School in the Class of 1944. After school she went to work at Linny Gas Station, Lyon Mountain and then Hyro-Moulding in Plattsburgh. She retired from Arpac, Plattsburgh. She was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain and a member of the Catholic Daughters. Ms. Lancto was also a member of the Merry Lyoneers Senior Citizens and on the Board of Directors for Mountain Top Housing. She loved to knit, crochet and sew. Calling hours will be held at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home on Monday, May 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18 in St. Bernard's Church with Monsignor Bernard Christman officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Lyon Mountain. Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home. DEATH NOTICE Genevieve S. Sharlow, 90, died on Saturday, May 15, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born on March 31, 1914, daughter of Camille M. and Bertha (Matott) Sorrell. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Morris Robert Favaro, 77 of Route 3, Cadyville, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center. Calling hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
