Frederic E. Mooers

PLATTSBURGH — Frederic E. Mooers, 97, of 2 Mason Drive, died early Thursday morning, March 25, 2004, at Meadowbrook Health Care Facility.

Frederic was born in Coopersville, N.Y., on July 14, 1906, the son of Frederic D. and Effie Eddy Mooers.

He graduated from Chazy Central Rural School in June 1924, and graduated from Albany Business College in September 1926. Frederic was employed by A.H. Marshall & Company in Plattsburgh from then until 1958, when the company closed. Following that, he was employed by Champlain Valley Hospital and the Physicians Hospital (CVPH) in Plattsburgh until he retired in 1974.

Survivors include a nephew, Robert Hyde and his wife, Carolyn, of West Boylston, Mass.; a niece, Anne Mooers Doherty and her husband, Philip, of Burlington, Vt.; and a grand-niece, Margaret Gannon, and her husband, Michael, of Cumberland Head, N.Y.

Frederic was predeceased by his wife of 74 years, Doris E. Mooers; by his brothers, Carl and Stanley, and by his sister, Lillian (Mooers) Hyde.

He will be particularly missed by his close friends of 52 years, Philip and Shirley Gordon. The Gordons were more than friends of Frederic and his wife, Doris, particularly in their later years when they were constant companions and supporters. For this, the family is extremely grateful.

Frederic had many interests. He was an accomplished musician who played both violin and piano. He was a member of both the Plattsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Clinton Community College Orchestra. He was a member of the Clinton County Historical Society and a contributor of much historical information to this group.

Frederic enjoyed the outdoors and was both an avid bird-watcher and, in his early years, a fly fisherman.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsburgh.

A memorial service will be held in the church on Thursday, April 29, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Chazy, N.Y.

The R. W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Donations in Frederic’s memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church (of Plattsburgh) Memorial Fund.
