Published: 4/22/04James Servatius EvansPeru — James Servatius Evans, 83, of Columbia, S.C., and formerly of McIntosh Drive, Peru, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at the Lifecare Center of Columbia, Columbia, S.C. He was born in Utica on Feb. 23, 1921, the son of Robert and Frances (Servatius) Evans. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. James received his bachelor’s degree from Oswego State University. He was a schoolteacher for many years at the Jennie F. Snapp Junior High School in Endicott. Prior to moving to the North Country Mr. Evans and his late wife lived for nearly 30 years in Endicott. He enjoyed woodworking but especially loved spending time with his family. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory J. and Jane Evans of Johns Island, S.C., and Donald G. and Shirley Evans of Peru; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Evans of Washington Mills, Thomas Evans of Lawrenceville, Ga., and John Evans of St. Augustine, Fla.; a sister, Frances Kenefick of Utica; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his devoted wife of 56 years, Virginia Irene Evans; and beloved grandson, Jonathan Evans. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 11 to noon at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A funeral service will follow at noon at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Entombment will follow at the Whispering Maples Memorial Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. Donations in his memory may be made to the Jonathan Evans Memorial Fund, 7 Oakdale Drive, Peru, N.Y., 12972. Loretta M. Browning, 63, of Morrisonville, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. She was born in Mineville on Oct. 29, 1940, the daughter of Patrick J. and Helen I. (Okusky) Hebert. There will be no calling hours or services. Interment will be in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. The O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements. Jack C. Soulia, 65, of Sawyer Avenue Apartments, Malone, died at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, on Tuesday, April 20, 2004. Born on April 20, 1939, in Brasher Falls, N.Y., he was the son of the late Clarence and Olive (King) Soulia. Calling hours will be in the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone on Friday, from 6 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church, MaIone. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. |
