Mary "Bette" Ashline

Ocala, FlA./Champlain, N.Y. — Bette Ashline died with her family beside her on April 17, 2004, at the Legacy House in Ocala, Fla.

Bette was born on May 24, 1929, in Champlain, N.Y., a daughter of Grover and Elsie Mussen Ashline.

She was also a descendent of Prisque Asselin, Captain Antoine Paulin and Bruno Tremblay, all of who fought in the Revolutionary War.

She attended Champlain High School and graduated with the class of 1947 and the Loretta Business School in 1948. She was employed at Ayerst Laboratories; she worked in different departments and later became a buyer for the purchasing department. She retired after 38 years of service with the company.

She was a firm believer in physical fitness and her personal interests included walking, jogging, bicycling and cross-country skiing. She also had a deep appreciation for the arts and enjoyed painting and crafts.

Bette is survived by five sisters who include, Dotty Gibson of Sarasota, Fla., Addy Barnes of Garden City, N.Y., Helen Root of Liverpool, N.Y., Laura Pelkey of Rouses Point, N.Y., and Gloria Ashline of Ocala, Fla. She is also survived by a host of friends and dozens of nieces and nephews, who will miss their beloved "Auntie Mame."

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Gerald Ashline in 1998; and one sister, Veronica Gonyo in 1986.

Memorial services for Bette will be announced at a later date with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Coopersville, N.Y.

Catherine E. Lattrell

Keeseville — Catherine E. Lattrell, 88, of Church Street, Keeseville, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Charlotte, Vt., Jan. 6, 1916, the daughter of Frank and Philomene (Benoit) Lavalette.

She moved to Keeseville and met the love of her life, William V. Lattrell, at Stoughton's Family Farm, where she worked. They married May 29, 1933, at St. John's Church in Keeseville.

Catherine worked for Keeseville National Bank. Prior to that she worked at Betty's Cleaners. She also did housework for local people.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters; the Altar Rosary Society; and the Keeseville Senior Citizens Club.

She enjoyed cooking and loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed sending cards to family and friends.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Ann Lattrell of Westville, Ill., Alfred "Skip" and Margaret Lattrell of Raritan, N.J., and Robert "Bob" and Joanne Lattrell of Keeseville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janice and Bud Cooley of Wilmington, N.C., Loretta Rose of Castle Hayne, N.C., and Joan "'Jill" and Richard Wood of Keeseville; 24 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Maureen Lattrelle of Plattsburgh and Julie Lattrell of Keeseville; many nieces and nephews; her dog, Ginger.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, William V. Lattrell; sons, Edwin "Bucky" Lattrelle and John "Jack" Lattrell; grandson, John L. Cooley II; and brothers and sisters, Philomene, Mitchell, Harry, Rose, Madeline, Edmond, Charles, Melvina, Agnes, Alfred, Blanche and Arthur.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country; the Keeseville Rescue Squad; or the FitzPatrick Cancer Center.

Nikolas Kurt Michaud

PERU — Nikolas Kurt Michaud, loving son of Alan and Bruni Michaud died tragically on Friday, April 16, 2004. He was 23 years old.

Nik is the beloved younger brother of Kristofer Michaud and the brother-in-law of Kris's spouse, Noriko Michaud. He is the adored grandson of his oma, Helene Gottrich and his grandma, Madeleine Michaud.

Nik attended area public schools and graduated from the Hyde Academy of Bath, Maine in 1999. Nikolas studied education at the University of Vermont and later served his country in the United States Air Force as a medical laboratory technician.

He was discharged honorably in January of 2004 and has since been working hard in the pre-nursing program at Clinton Community College where he excelled.

Nikolas was a gifted photographer and writer as well as an accomplished athlete having successfully completed two marathons (Boston & Adirondack) while still a teenager.

He will be remembered fondly for his sense of humor and generous congenial nature.

Nikolas had a soft spot for those less fortunate than he and had dedicated himself to working with the homeless while stationed in San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of a construction team from the Peru Community Church that traveled to Porus, Jamaica to help modify a quadriplegic's home to render it handicap accessible.

Nikolas was fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel the world with his family and friends. It is through these travels that Nik developed a deep concern for those people of the world who are victims of grinding and unrelenting poverty. Those of us who know and love him mourn from the bottom of our hearts.

Nikolas was predeceased by his opa, Otto Gottrich; and grandpa, Louis Michaud.

Donations may be made to the Nikolas K. Michaud Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund, in care of The Clinton Community College Foundation, 136 Clinton Point Drive, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 12 noon at the Peru Community Church with a reception to follow at the Fellowship Center. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Chazy, N.Y.

Edward O. Alexander

PLATTSBURGH — Edward O. Alexander, 90, of 19 Riverside Avenue, Plattsburgh, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Williamsport, Pa., on Nov. 1, 1913, the son of Walter and Emma (Saar) Alexander.

He married the former Sarah Garrow of Cobelskill, N.Y., in 1959.

Mr. Alexander was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church and American Legion Post 20. He loved country music, bee keeping and gardening and was a lifelong fan of the New York Giants.

Mr. Alexander was a World War II Army veteran serving state-side in the development of chemical weapons, being discharged in 1946 as a second lieutenant. He was a musician, playing the guitar for the "Kentucky Ramblers," traveling throughout the United State and Canada and was known as "The Carolina Mountain Boy." Mr. Alexander also worked as a purchasing agent for the Will Rogers Institute, Plattsburgh Air Force Base and several other institutions in the area. He retired as the assistant manager of the Ramada Inn in Burlington in 1976.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah; six sons, Gary Alexander of Unityville, Pa., Edward Garrant and his wife Sandy of Beekmantown, James Garrant and his wife Gloria of Hudson, Quebec, Randall Garrant and his companion Kathy Blanchard of Plattsburgh, Terry Alexander and his companion Shannon Parrott and Scott Alexander, all of Plattsburgh; seven daughters, Marilyn Decicco of New Canery, Texas, Carol Perry and her husband Donald of Schuyler Falls, Angela Mackowski and her husband Alan, Robin Pageau and her husband Gary, Kim Alexander and Heidi Alexander and her companion Jaysen Barber, all of Plattsburgh, and Debra Therrien and her husband Louis; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Florence Alexander and Margaret Favire, both died earlier.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 3:15 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, followed by burial in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Donations in his memory, may be made to the North Country Vietnam Veterans or the Alexander family.

Bruce R. Southworth

BURKE — Bruce R. Southworth, 43, of the Montgomery Road, Burke died Monday, April 19, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt.

He was born in Malone, N.Y., on April 29, 1960, the son of Robert and Joyce (Marlow) Southworth.

He was married to Kelly Atkinson on Oct. 9, 1982, in St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay by Rev. Arthur LaBaff.

Mr. Southworth is survived by his wife of 21 years; his parents of Burke; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Brian and Denise Southworth of Malone, N.Y., and Craig Southworth of Burke, N.Y.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, JoAnn Southworth of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Julie and Christopher Stalker of Chazy, N.Y., maternal grandparents, Donald and Ernestine Marlow of Burke, N.Y.; an aunt, Karen and Bruce Mills of Walcott, N.Y.; a goddaughter, Nichole Lawrence of Bangor, N.Y.; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Guy and Claudette Atkinson of Millerton and Neil and Candy Atkinson of Chateaugay Lake; two close cousins, Lisa and Terri; along with many cousins; aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, John and Marion Southworth.

Bruce graduated from Chateaugay Central School in the class of 1979. He owned and operated a dairy farm with his father and in December 1987 he joined the New York State Department of Corrections and has served at Green Haven Correctional, River View Correctional and has been at Bare Hill Correctional in Malone since it opened until the time of his death. He also owned and operated an excavation business known as Bruce Southworth Trucking.

Bruce was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay, Burke Volunteer Fire Department currently serving as president, Chateaugay Fish and Game Club, Trailriders Snowmobile Club in Ellenburg and Farm Bureau.

Calling hours will be held at Chateaugay Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Thursday in St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay with Rev. John Demo officiating. Burial will take place at St. George's Cemetery in Burke.

Donations in his memory may be made to Burke Volunteer Fire Department or FitzPatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh.

Gordon O. Lamay

NORTH CONROE, TEXAS — Gordon O. Lamay, 87, died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 24, 2003, at the Conroe Medical Center in Conroe, Texas.

He was born in Plattsburgh on April 24, 1916, the son of Bertrand and Melvina (Ledoux) Lamay.

Mr. Lamay was employed at the Plattsburgh Press-Republican as circulation manager for a number of years. He also worked at General Electric in Burlington.

Survivors include his wife, Ola (Clukey) Lamay; nine sons; seven daughters; and
several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Harold and Warren Lamay; one sister, Mildred Lamar; three half brothers; and three half sisters; died earlier.

A memorial service will be held at the Old Schuyler Falls Cemetery on Felton Road at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2004.

Mark R. Renaud

Plattsburgh — Officer Mark R. Renaud, 42, of the San Antonio Police Department, began his patrol of the road of our Lord on Saturday, April 17, 2004. He waged his courageous battle against cancer for over 3 years. He was with his mother, Beverly M. Renaud, brother, Philip Renaud and sister, Sharon Renaud Carter at the time of his passing.

He is predeceased by his beloved father, Robert A. Renaud, retired USAF and his beloved brother, PFC. Bruce W. Renaud Carter, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient awarded Posthumously, Vietnam.

He is survived by his mother, Beverly M. Renaud (Plattsburgh, N.Y.); five sisters, Kathleen Renaud-Guay (Gansevoort, N.Y.), Sharon Renaud-Carter (Goshen, N.Y.), Melissa Renaud-Kercher (Virginia Beach, Va.), Susan Renaud (Wynantskill, N.Y.) and Pamela Renaud Carter (Hollywood Beach, Fla.); and three brothers, Craig Renaud (Albany, N.Y.), Philip Renaud (Plattsburgh, N.Y.), and Christopher Renaud, United States Army, (Fort Huachuca, Ariz.).

Mark graduated from Mount Assumption Institute. Following a family tradition, he began his service to his country in 1979 by enlisting in the Air Force and started his career in law enforcement retiring in 1995 as a tech sergeant. He was the recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal with bronze oak leaf cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal with bronze oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two bronze oak leaf clusters, the Air Force overseas long tour ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with two bronze oak leaf clusters, small arms expert marksmanship ribbon with three bronze service stars, the service ribbon for support of Operation Desert Storm, as well as numerous other awards and citations.

Mark began his law enforcement career with the San Antonio Police Department in 1996, at the age of 35. His final assignment was with the North Substation, 13030 Jones Maltsberger, San Antonio, Texas.

He became an exemplary police officer starting as president of his Police Academy Training Class in 1996. Although the oldest of his class, he tied in the physical fitness superior achievement phase of the 26-week training program. Mark made friends with all of his fellow officers. He was a physical fitness expert and through his excitement with life, empowered many fellow officers to consider regular workout routines. He is the recipient of the Advancement Police Officer Certificate and the Distinguished Service Award. This award is only given to a member of the department, who in the course of his duties and while interacting with his peers, superiors and public, displays exceptional dedication to his profession and to the department. The last award based upon Mark's inspirational battle with cancer, his attendance at work in spite of undergoing the debilitating effects of chemotherapy. He will be missed and loved by all those lives he touched.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Church, 114 Cornelia, Plattsburgh, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions are made to the San Antonio Police Association.

Margaret Meier

WILLSBORO — Margaret Meier, 101, of the Point Road, Willsboro, N.Y., died Sunday evening after a short illness.

She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., Nov. 25, 1902, the daughter of Otto A. and Elizabeth (Biese) Ehle.

She lived in several communities on Long Island but mainly in Jamaica and Lauderdale Lakes, Fla. In 1989 she moved to Willsboro, to make her home with her daughter and son-in-law

Mrs. Meier was a homemaker, a member of the United Congregational Church of Christ in Willsboro, the Women's Fellowship and the Willsboro-Essex Golden Agers.

She is survived by her daughter and her husband Arlene and Robert P. Bigelow of Willsboro; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Meier was predeceased by her husband, Dr. George A. Meier in 1983; a brother, Otto A. Ehle Jr.; and a sister, Emily Ehle.

There are no services scheduled at this time.

Donations in her memory may be made to the church or the Westport Animal Shelter.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro.

Muriel Harris

JAY — Muriel Harris, 82, of the Glen Road, Jay, N.Y., passed away Monday, April 19, 2004, at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Frank and Emma "Leidner" Jessup.

Survived by a son, Peter J. Harris of Jay; two daughters, Jane Wood of Jay and Linda Adragna of Wilmington.

There will be no visitation hours or funeral services at this time.

Memorials to her may be made to High Peaks Hospice, PO Box 195, Mineville, NY 12956-0195.

Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Hannah (Betty) James McKimm, 94, died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Rosewood

Residence in Tupelo, Miss.

She was born Feb. 20, 1910, in Port Henry, N.Y., to the late Wallace Usher and Ada Lena Rose James.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Edith E. Farnsworth, 72, of Mohawk Drive, Star Lake, died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, N.Y.

She was born July 24, 1931, in Waterbury, Vt., the daughter of Miles and Florence Mae (Jones) Kennedy.

Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

JAMES SERVATIUS EVANS, 83, of Columbia, S.C., and formerly of McIntosh Drive, Peru died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at the Lifecare Center of Columbia, Columbia, S.C.

He was born in Utica, Feb. 23, 1921 the son of Robert and Frances (Servatius) Evans.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.
