Kathryn Winch

VERMONTVILLE, NY — Kathryn Winch, longtime Vermontville, N.Y., resident and formally of White Plains, N.Y., passed away with her family in attendance on Tuesday, April 7, 2004, after a recent illness. Kathryn "Kathy" was 76 years of age.

Kathy was an active participant in many local functions and charities. She was known to local residents as a person that was always willing to help those in need. Her life’s work was assisting others less fortunate, including caring for people with illnesses and providing maternal support.

Kathy, married to previously deceased Wayne Winch of Vermontville, N.Y., is survived by her brother, William Kenneth Lichti of Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Charles Lichti of White Plains, N.Y.; a daughter, Kathy Graziano of Hawthorne, N.Y.; a stepson, Vincent Machemer; and a foster daughter, Denise Wylie of Lake Placid, N.Y.; Kathy also leaves behind six grandchildren.

The family will hold a gathering in memory of Kathy on Saturday, April 10, 2004, from 12 to 5 p.m. at the home of Charles Lichti, 183 Riverside Drive, Saranac Lake, N.Y.

Kathy’s preference for donations, in lieu of flowers, should be sent to The Sheila Fund, c/o PO Box 2, White Plains, NY 10603, a research fund for ovarian cancer diagnostics.

Gerald Robert Fielder

CROWN POINT, NY — Gerald Robert Fielder, 82, of Pearl Street, Crown Point, N.Y., died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at his home.

He was born March 23, 1922, in Huntington, Vt., the son of Robert G. and Ruby B. (Russett) Fielder.

He was married on Nov. 23, 1940, to Alice A. Moot. They were married for 63 years.

Gerald was a dairy farmer and logger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, taking rides and his family. He had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Alice of Crown Point; his children, Levi and Connie Fielder of Melinville, N.Y., Rita and Clarence Gibbs of Crown Point, N.Y., Leta Powers of Westford, Vt., Gail and Gene Thorburn of Windsor, Vt., and Lyle and Mary Fielder of Westport, N.Y.; his brothers, Francis and Muriel Fielder of Goshen, Vt., Harold Fielder of Hudson, N.Y., Melford and Janice Fielder of Springfield, Vt.; his sister, Joyce Charles of Rhode Island, Isabel and Doug McCauley of Greenwitch, N.Y., and Arlean LaValley of Chester, Vt.; his brother-in-law, Harold and Jan Moot of Chester, Vt.; his sister-in-law, Mildred and Vernon Carabeau of Maine; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Leola Russell, Dorothy Lauren and Roberta Stardard; and his son-in-law, Thomas Powers.

Calling hours will be held Friday 1 to 3 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold G. Duprey

SCHUYLER FALLS — Harold G. Duprey, 69, of 229 Swastika Road, Schuyler Falls, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y.

He was born in Swastika, N.Y., on April 24, 1934, the son of George and Sarah (Paquin) Duprey.

Harold was a general contractor and builder in the north country. He also worked in Florida and was employed at one time by NASA.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include his former wife, Elizabeth Provost of West Chazy; two sons, Ernest Duprey and his wife Marilyn of Sciota and Richard A. Duprey and his wife Gloria of West Chazy; three daughters, Pamela Beshon of Palm Bay, Fla., and Tonya Riley and Carol Rucker, both of Florida; one stepdaughter, Cheryl Aylesworth of Syracuse; one stepson, Robert Wight of Baltimore, Md.; six brothers, Richard E. Duprey and his wife Lorraine of Schenectady, Philip "Bud" Duprey and his wife Mildred of Peru, Lawrence Duprey and his wife Joan of Groton, Mass., Roger Duprey and his wife Darlene of Peru, Donald Duprey and his wife Nancy of Peasleeville and Gordon Duprey and his wife Lucille of Peru. Also several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents; a brother, Wayne Duprey; and his second wife, Arlene.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, April 10, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the home of Ernest and Marilyn Duprey. Burial will be in St. Matthew’s Church Cemetery, Black Brook, N.Y., in the spring.

Donations may be made to the Harold Duprey family.

Alan Hadley Booth

PLATTSBURGH — Alan Hadley Booth, age 95, died at CVPH Medical Center on Tuesday, April 6, 2004. He had been living at home until he was admitted to the hospital the previous day.

Alan was born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 6, 1909, son of Harry and Wilholmina Booth.

He graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1927 and from Williams College in 1931. He attended Columbia University Graduate School, then returned to Plattsburgh in 1934 to join his father at Booth Insurance Agency.

He married Dorothy Bourne in July 1942 on Cape Cod. Alan enlisted in the military the day after Pearl Harbor and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. He was discharged in November of 1945 and returned to Plattsburgh with his wife and son, Alan.

Alan was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church. His civic contributions included long-time service to the Clinton-Essex Counties United Way. In the 1950’s Alan and Dorothy helped found the local United Way. In 1985, they were the first recipients of the United Way Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award, now named for them. He was also named the 1956 B’nai Brith Man of the Year. Alan was president and longtime board member of the YMCA where he worked tirelessly to raise money, including chairing the fundraising drive that resulted in the addition of the swimming pool to the building on Brinkerhoff Street. Along with Dorothy, he was a strong supporter of both the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts. In recent years he was active on the Lake Champlain Committee and as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Alan loved the out-of-doors. In his younger days he was an avid skier and he was still climbing mountains in his mid-eighties. In the late 1940’s, he helped organize the Algonquin Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club. His favorite times were spent at his camp on the point of Cumberland Head.

Alan was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy in June of 1992.

He is survived by his son, Alan B. and his wife Jennifer Booth of Plattsburgh; son, Richard and his wife Carol Booth of Ithaca and their children Benjamin and Sarah Booth; and daughter, Betsy and her husband Bruce Pennino of Holden, Mass., and their daughter Hope; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Gifts in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church; the YMCA; or the United Way of Clinton and Essex Counties.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LAURIE (DEVAN) BAKER, 48, of Margaret Street, Plattsburgh and formerly of Hawaii, passed away Monday, April 5, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Dec. 9, 1955, the daughter of Earl C. and Annette E. (Lawton) Devan.

Calling hours will be held Monday, April 12, 2004, at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at 10 a.m. from St. James Minor Church in Cadyville. Burial will take place later in the year in the parish cemetery.

ROLLEN J. BECHARD, 90, of Rouses Point died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Rouses Point.

A full obituary will appear in tomorrow’s Press-Republican.

Arrangements are with M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point.

NORMAN MACEY, 67, of Cubb Circle, Plattsburgh, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on July 11, 1936, son of the late Francis and Madeline (Charbeneau) Macey.

Calling hours were held Tuesday, April 6, 2004, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
