Ella Mae Lucia

Morrisonville — Mrs. Ella Mae Lucia, 92, of River Street, Morrisonville, N.Y., passed away Monday, April 5, 2004, at her home.

She was born in Morrisonville on July 16, 1911, the daughter of George and Rose (Bouyea) Seymour.

Ella Mae had worked at Pal Blade in Plattsburgh for many years.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening.

Ella Mae was a member of St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Charles Lucia in 1978; her son, Carlton Lucia in 1985; a sister, Velida Wood; and two brothers, Dennis and Harold Seymour.

She is survived by four brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald Seymour, Leonard and Mary "Mitzi" Seymour, Robert F. "Bud" Seymour, all of Morrisonville, and Lawrence "Andy" Seymour of Hyde Park, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville. Interment will follow in St. Alexander’s Cemetery.

Friends wishing may have Masses said in her memory to the parish of one’s choice.

Americo "Hank" Battaglini

PLATTSBURGH — Hank died in Albany, N.Y., on Feb. 1, 2004, after a painful battle with tongue and neck cancer caused by many years of smoking.

He was born in Fairport, N.Y., on April 23, 1926, the son of Frank and Elisa Battaglini.

He leaves four brothers and one sister.

He was in the first graduating class of Champlain College. He also taught chemistry there for one year.

He spent two years in the Pacific during World War II. He served in both the Army and the Navy the latter needing his skills as a draftsman. He also designed a church which still stands in the Hawaiian Islands.

He lived 30 years in Syracuse, N.Y., as a sales manager and was a member of many organizations. He was a faithful participant in Nocturnal Adoration and spent many a cold night adoring our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. His rosary was his faithful companion. He also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, fishing, teaching, cards and cooking, sharing that talent with everyone he knew. He loved spending winters in Florida and summers here on the lake.

He married Joyce Bouchard in 1949 and they had four beautiful children , Susan of Albany, N.Y., Gail of Vequita, N.M., and Aimee of Pittsfield, Mass. A son, Christopher died in 1973 and is still sorely missed. He also leaves eight wonderful grandchildren and many nieces, nephew and "in-laws".

He was a true, faithful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He and his wife were "best friends’ after 53 years of marriage and had a deep and abiding love for each other. His absence is deafening! He was a true Christian, always putting everyone before himself.

He is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Syracuse, N.Y., next to the son he loved so much. They are, at last, together again in eternal joy.

Esther A. (Nugent) Maloney

Melbourne, Fl/Jay, NY — Esther A. Maloney, 71, formerly of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and a resident of Melbourne, Fla., died Sunday, April 4, 2004.

Esther was born in Jay, N.Y., on April 5, 1933, the daughter of John and Kathryn (Chabbott) Nugent.

She was a graduate of AuSable Forks High School and before her retirement, was office manager for Associates in OB/GYN in Plattsburgh.

She and her husband Giles, were married on Feb. 3, 1951, and recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.

In addition to her husband, Giles F. Maloney, Esther is survived by her daughter, Patricia (David) Reid of Toledo, Ohio; her two granddaughters, Emily and Maggie; her brother, Gerald (Judy) Nugent; her sister, Maureen Lynch; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Anne, and her parents.

Friends may call at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2004. The funeral Mass will be conducted at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville, N.Y., at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 19, 2004.

Dorothy A. (Doadie) Mitchell

Chester, Vt — Dorothy A. (Doadie) Mitchell, the artist, died March 31, 2004, after a short illness. She was 86 and a resident of Chester, Vt., since 1978.

Doadie was born in Utica, N.Y., on July 6, 1917, and grew up in Rockville Centre, Long Island.

Her husband, George F. Mitchell predeceased her in April 2000.

She is survived by her children, George Fairfax Mitchell Jr. and his wife Linda, William Norwood Mitchell and his wife Janette, Holly Elizabeth Williams and her husband Ken and Robert Palmer Mitchell and his wife Michelle. She has five grandchildren, Leigh O’Donnell, Scott Mitchell, Michael Williams, Tasha Williams and Liam Mitchell; and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Camryn O’Donnell.

Before coming to Chester, she and George lived in Central Valley, N.Y., where she was active with the Ambulance Corps, the PTA and several other community organizations. Doadie was very active in Chester and a recipient of the Chester Flamstad Award for community service. At the time of her death she was co-president of the Chester Art Guild having served as president several times in the past. She was a member of the Historical Society, the Chester Players Guild and a volunteer for the Chester Recycling Program, Meals on Wheels and Springfield Hospital. Doadie was active with the After School Program and the Kids School Ski Program at Okemo. She loved life; she loved working with children and volunteering in the Chester community.

Doadie was a devout member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church serving on the Alter Guild and supervising the completion of a religious mural with youth members of the church.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, On the Green, Chester, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Doadie Mitchell Memorial Art Scholarship Fund c/o the Chester Art Guild, Chester, VT 05143.

Florence I. Gebo

PLATTSBURGH — Florence I. Gebo, 88, formerly of 34 Flynn Ave, Plattsburgh, died on Monday, April 5, 2004, at the Clinton County Nursing Home.

She was born in Plattsburgh on April 11, 1915, the daughter of Nelson and Eva (Reynolds) Williams.

She was married to Donald Nelson Gebo on June 24, 1946.

Mrs. Gebo attended the Turnpike Wesleyan Church and was a member of the Womens Missionary Society there. She enjoyed crafting and loved to cook for and visit with family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Go of Plattsburgh and Dale Gebo and his wife Betty of Plattsburgh; and two nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Turnpike Wesleyan Church. Burial to be in the West Chazy Rural Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Turnpike Wesleyan Church.

Honor E. Rosenberger

Rouses Point, NY — Honor E. Rosenberger, 76, passed away Saturday evening, April 3, 2004, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington, Vt.

She was born Nov. 27, 1927, in Watervliet, N.Y., the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Hoffman) Brooks.

She worked many years at Delagar in Rouses Point, N.Y., but her major accomplishment in life was as a loving and caring wife and mother.

Honor is survived by her son, Paul Rosenberger of Rouses Point; her daughter, Honor Lamphere of Swanton, Vt.; grandchildren, Patrick Rosenberger of Ft. Campbell, Ky., Andrew Rosenberger of Rouses Point, N.Y., and Michael and Sara Lamphere of Vandenburg Air Force Base, Calif.; also a brother-in-law, John Rosenberger and his wife Betty of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Isabell Rosenberger of Wymantskill, N.Y.; as well a many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Rosenberger of Rouses Point, N.Y.; and a son-in-law, Bobby Lamphere of Swanton, Vt.

At the family’s request there will be no public services and interment will be private.

Alfred P. Fleury Jr., 49, of Ivy Wood Road, Virginia Beach, Va., and formerly of Constable, N.Y., died unexpectedly Monday, April 5, 2004, at the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Va., following recent surgery.

He was born in Malone, N.Y., July 31, 1954, the son of Alfred P. and Eleanor L. LaPrad Fleury Sr.

Calling hours will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable, with the Reverend Francis Flynn officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 8, 2004, at 7 p.m. at the Heritage High School, Newport News, Va.

Philip A. Drinkwine, 71, of Grove Street, Keeseville, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh, Oct. 18, 1932, the son of Charles and Kathleen (West) Drinkwine.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville.

Winifred M. Bechard, 81, of Apple Valley Drive, Peru, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center.

She was born on March 5, 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Delia (Hebert) Trombley.

The arrangements are incomplete at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Marlene F. Criss, 67, of Lakeview Towers, Plattsburgh, died on Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at her home.

She was born in Ticonderoga on April 1, 1937, daughter of Harry and Lenora (Hurlburt) Barber.

There will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Arrangements by Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Gerald R. Fielder, 82, of Pearl Street, Crown Point, N.Y., died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at his home.

He was born March 24, 1922, in Huntington, Vt.

Calling hours will be held Friday, April 9, 2004, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
