Anita E. (Light) Lemieux

MASSENA — Anita E. (Light) Lemieux, age 89, formerly of Andrews Street, Massena, N.Y., died April 4, 2004, at the St. Regis Nursing Home.

She was born on May 30, 1914, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the daughter of the John Light and Agnes (Bouvier) Light.

Mrs. Lemieux was a homemaker. She was a member of Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association (LCBA), volunteer at St. Regis Nursing Home for 25 years, First Eucharist Minister at Sacred Heart Church and she was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary Foundation.

She is survived by her husband, Jerome (Jerry) A. Lemieux; two daughters, Anne Marie Larose of Jericho, Vt., and Michele L. Branon of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; two sons, John N. Lemieux of Smithfield, R.I., and Peter G. Lemieux of Mesa, Ariz.; four sisters, Velida Kavanaugh of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Yvonne Herkalo of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Bernadette Dalton of Peru, N.Y., and Jeanne Farrington of Chazy, N.Y.; three brothers, Napoleon Light of Peru, N.Y., Andre Light of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Alfred Light of Cumberland Head, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Peter J. Lemieux; a daughter, Joan A. Lemieux; a sister, Mildred Kirk; and a brother, Maynard Light.

She married Jerome A. Lemieux on Oct. 4, 1941, at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh, N.Y., by the Reverend Arthur J. Lemire OMI.

For the past six years she and her husband resided in Plattsburgh before moving back to Massena residing at the St. Regis Nursing Home. They had lived in Massena mostly throughout their married life. Mrs. Lemieux was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh where they resided.

Calling hours will be at the Church of the Sacred Heart on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Reverend Donald J. Manfred presiding, also on Wednesday calling hours at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh with Reverend John Yonkovig, presiding. Entombment will be in Whispering Maples Gardens in Plattsburgh. Interment will be at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg Depot, N.Y.

Memorial contributions to Trinity Catholic Endowment Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association of C.N.Y. 441 West Kirpatrivk Street, Syracuse, NY 13204.

Arrangements are being handled by Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews Street, Massena, N.Y.

Esther A. Holland

Essex, NY — Esther A. Holland, 91, of the Middle Road, Essex, N.Y., died Saturday, April 3, 2004.

She was born in Weston, Vt., on Oct. 13, 1912, the daughter of Arthur Ephraim and Carrie E. (Hathaway) Moore.

Mrs. Holland was a member of the Weston, Vt., Methodist Church and in her younger years was a school teacher at a one room school in 20 Mile Stream and Dover Vt. She was a plane spotter during World War II. After moving to Essex, N.Y., she and her husband and sons ran a farm on the Middle Road in Essex.

She is survived by three sons, Fred of Essex, George and Viola of Essex, and Frank and Janet of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a brother and his wife, Curtis and Marie Moore of Milton, Vt.; as well as six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald C. Holland; and a son, John, who was killed in Vietnam.

Calling hours will be Thursday, April 8, 2004, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Huestis Funeral Home, Maple Street, Willsboro, N.Y. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on the same day at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Sheddsville Cemetery in West Windsor, Vt., at 2:30 p.m.

Blanche Brady Lavery

CHATEAUGAY — Blanche Brady Lavery, 89, entered into eternal rest on April 4, 2004, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born June 27, 1914, in Churubusco the daughter of the late John and Nora (Whalen) Brady.

Blanche was a loving and devoted wife, mother and daughter.

She was a devout Catholic, with a generous heart and an active mind, her life was earnest, her actions kind. Friends will remember her for her quick smile, kind word, dedication, friendship and her sense of humor.

In June 1934, she graduated from Potsdam Normal School with a teaching degree. She taught first grade for over 40 years in the Massena and Chateaugay Central school districts, retiring in 1976. After retirement she worked as an volunteer at the Burke Adult Center.

She married Benedict Lavery on Aug. 26, 1944, in St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay. He predeceased her on Nov. 14, 1977.

She was also predeceased by sisters, Elizabeth Brady of Churubusco who died in infancy, Ellen Simpson of Malone, Kathleen Walcott of Cicero and Nora Ann Francisco of Penn Yan; and by brothers, Mark Brady of Utica, Raymond Brady of Crystal River, Fla., Francis Brady of Churubusco, Kenneth Brady of Brushton, John Brady of Churubusco, Walter Brady of Burke and William Brady of Chateaugay.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann of Ukiah, Calif.; a son, Benny of Albany; several nieces and nephews including a favorite Jack Francisco of Penn Yan; and by many friends at the Burke Adult Center.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Bernice Darcy, Gen Gero and nurses, Mary Lou Kingsley and Teddy Wright and to Dr. Cahill for the care you gave our mother. We will never forget you. God bless you all.

Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay.

Arrangements are through the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

Charles Pratt Twichell

KEENE — Charles Pratt Twichell, 80, died April 3, 2004, in Shelburne, Vt.

Mr. Twichell, the son of Burton Twichell and Katharine Pratt Twichell, was born in New Haven, Conn., in 1924.

He attended the Foote School, Pomfret and Yale University, where he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. His college years were interrupted by his service with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during Word War II.

Mr. Twichell’s career was centered at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn., where he taught for four decades, chiefly Latin and served for a number of years as Dean of Faculty. He oversaw the merger of Choate School and Rosemary Hall in the 1970’s.

Chas was an avid traveler, a skilled cabinetmaker, an athlete and fisherman.

He was married for 39 years to Ann Chase Twichell Hendrie, now of Little Compton, R.I. They had three daughters.

Chas retired to his beloved Keene Valley, N.Y., in the Adirondacks, and then to Shelburne, Vt.

He is survived by a brother, David Twichell; a sister, Margaret Twichell Jones; his daughters, Chase, Eliza and Cary Twichell; and four grandchildren. He also leaves behind a large extended family, friends, colleagues and former students. He will be remembered and missed for his energy, wit and feisty spirit and for the countless ways he contributed over the years to any community of which he was a part.

A memorial celebration of his life is planned for July in Keene Valley, N.Y.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by W.M. Marvin’s Sons, Inc., Elizabethtown, N.Y.

Amanda Marie Lobdell

BURKE — Amanda Marie Lobdell, 33, of State Route 11, Burke died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

She was born in Malone, N.Y., on June 29, 1970, the daughter of Garth and Delores (Delaney) Peck.

She was married to L. Alan Lobdell on July 8, 1989, in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Constable, N.Y.

Mrs. Lobdell is survived by her husband of 14 years; a daughter, Samantha Marie Lobdell at home; her mother, Delores Peck of Burke, N.Y.; four brothers and a sister-in-law, Terry Peck of Rochester, N.Y., Randy and Diane Peck of Burke, N.Y., Allan Peck of Burke, N.Y., and Todd Peck of Chateaugay, N.Y.; her paternal grandmother, Jean Peck of Burke, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, Garth Peck on March 22, 2000; her maternal grandparents, Fred and Marie Delaney; and her paternal grandfather, Hollis Peck.

Amanda graduated from Franklin Academy, Malone. She was a homemaker and operated the family dairy farm, known as Alamana Farm in Burke. Amanda loved being a mother to her special little girl, with her life revolving around her family and her farm. She enjoyed the outdoors, horseback riding and snowmobiling.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 6, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Chateaugay United Methodist Church with Reverend Eleanor Bellows officiating. Burial will take place at Burke Center Cemetery, Burke.

Donations in her memory may be made to FitzPatrick Cancer Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Norman Macey

Plattsburgh — Mr. Norman Macey, 67, of Cubb Circle, Plattsburgh, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on July 11, 1926, son of the late Francis and Madeline (Charbeneau) Macey.

Norman is survived by his wife, the former Eva Varno; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Scott and Beverly Macey of Plattsburgh, Michael Macey and his companion Amy Gowette of Plattsburgh and Mark Macey and his companion Nancy Doner of Plattsburgh; one daughter and a son-in-law, Tina and Michael Davies of Plattsburgh; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marlene Thompson of Plattsburgh, Joyce and Andy Nolan of Keeseville and Jean Ormsby of Peru; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 6, 2004, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Alice B. Grulich, 49, of 54 Becky Ave., Tupper Lake, N.Y., died Friday, April 2, 2004, as the result of an airplane accident near the Adirondack Regional Airport in Saranac Lake, N.Y.

She was born July 12, 1954, in Binghamton, N.Y., the daughter of Franis and Julia (Hawley) Dohnalck.

Alice and Paul’s families will receive friends at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. only. A memorial service for both Alice and her husband Paul will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Church with Reverend Donald Kramberg and Reverend Jan Blankenship of the United Community Church officiating.

Paul N. Grulich, 57, of 54 Becky Ave., Tupper Lake, N.Y., died Friday, April 2, 2004, as the result of an airplane accident near the Adirondack Regional Airport in Saranac Lake, N.Y.

He was born Jan. 24, 1947, in Oswego, N.Y., the son of Carl and Ruth (Commins) Grulich.

Paul and Alice’s families will receive friends at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. only. A memorial service for both Paul and his wife Alice will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Church with Reverend Donald Kramberg and Reverend Jan Blankenship of the United Community Church officiating.

Olive Mae Phillips Troemel, 98, of Flaglar Drive, Plattsburgh and formerly of Levittown, Penn., died Monday, April 5, 2004, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility in Plattsburgh.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Harold G. Duprey, 69, of 229 Swastika Road, Schuyler Falls, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y.

He was born in Swastika, N.Y., on April 24, 1934, the son of George and Sarah (Paquin) Duprey.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, April 10, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Matthew’s Church Cemetery, Black Brook in the spring.
