Published: 3/30/04Janet WebbPLATTSBURGH, NY — Janet Webb, of Cumberland Head, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of Arthur A. and J. Chatterton (Mason) Webb. Janet was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Adirondack Mountain Club and the Adirondack "46-er’s". Janet attended Syracuse University, where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, graduating in the class of 1930 with a degree in fine arts. She also did post graduate work at Syracuse University. Janet was a Girl Scout professional for 34 years, including executive positions and camp directing in Girl Scout councils in Syracuse, Auburn and Schenectady, N.Y., and for three years a member of the Girl Scout National Staff in the Great Lake Region based in Chicago, Ill. She assisted in the formation and organization of the present North Country Girl Scout Council in Clinton, Franklin and Essex counties from 1948 to 1954 and was it’s first executive director until 1966 when she retired. After retirement she was a volunteer in the snack bar at CVPH Medical Center for many years, as well as continuing her interest in her outdoor activities, especially sailing on Lake Champlain. Survivors include two nephews, Stephen S. Webb and his wife Margaret of Syracuse, N.Y., and Derrick A. S. Webb and his partner Abbie Burlingame of Osterville, Mass.; two grandnephews, Peter and Thomas Webb, both of Honolulu, Hawaii; 2 grandnieces, Holly Webb of El Cerrito, Calif., and Bess Webb of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two great-grandnieces, Sarah and Alice Webb; and a wide circle of caring friends. She is predeceased by her brother, Stephen M. Webb. There will be no public calling hours or funeral services. Family and friends are welcome to call at Janet Webb’s home on April 3, 2004, from 2 to 5 p.m. Donations in her memory may be given to the Clinton, Franklin, Essex County Girl Scouts of America or the World Wildlife Fund. The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. George F. ThompsonFULTON, NY — George F. Thompson, 84, a resident of South Fourth Street, Fulton, N.Y., died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at A. L. Lee Memorial Hospital. Mr. Thompson was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Mineville, N.Y., and was a son of Harold B. and Grace (Spring) Thompson. He lived in Keeseville, N.Y., until the late 1960’s when he moved to Fulton. He served in the U.S. Army with distinction as a Technical Sergeant in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during World War II. He retired as an office manager from Alltel in Fulton. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Keeseville, N.Y., and Fulton Garden Club, Fulton. He enjoyed gardening and bird watching. He was predeceased by a brother, Howard Stanley Thompson. Surviving are his wife, Doris Thompson of Fulton; two daughters, Karen Blow of Maryville, Tenn., and Roberta Bray of Albany; one brother, Harold "Bud" Thompson of Clifton Park, N.Y.; one sister, Elizabeth Sprague of Mechanicville, N.Y.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Saturday at the State Methodist Church, Fulton. There were no calling hours. Arrangements are in care of Young & Son Funeral Service, Inc., Fulton. Hemingway, 43, of Mooers died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain with a Mass of Christian burial following at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain. A full obituary will appear in tomorrow’s paper. William Skomsky, 96, formerly of Church Street, Saranac Lake, died Monday, March 29, 2004, at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. He was born in Poland on Dec. 25, 1907, the son of Frank and Matrona Skomsky. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Church of St. Luke the Beloved Physician with Father Fredrick Dennis officiating. Interment will be in Harrietstown Cemetery, Saranac Lake in May. Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Helen M. Payton, of Averyville Road, Lake Placid, died Monday, March 29, 2004, at her home. She was born in Waterford, Ireland, the daughter of John and Madge (Murphy) Jennings. Friends are invited to call Wednesday, March 31, at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, Reverend Patrick O’Reilly, Chaplain of Uihlein Mercy Center will officiate. Bruce V. Denno, 79, of Ticonderoga, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga. He was born April 21, 1924, in Whitehall, N.Y. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home of Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Reverend William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be later in the spring at St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga. Rita G. Blakeman, 92, of Saint Petersburg, Fla., died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Egret Cove Center. She was born in Putnam Station, N.Y. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center, Ninth Street Chapel, 2201 Dr. M.L.K. Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33704 is in charge of arrangements. MAE M. PERRY, 99, of Whallonsburgh, died Monday, March 29, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport. ELEANOR H. LOCKWOOD, 86, of the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, died Monday, March 30, 2004, at that facility. Born Nov. 9, 1917, in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of George and Edith (Hunkins) Delair. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at noon in Uihlein Mercy Center chapel in Lake Placid. Friends and relatives are invited. Burial will take place in Morningside Cemetery in Malone. Funeral arrangements are through St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc. |
