Laketsha Taree "Lovey" Manning

Ticonderoga — Laketsha Taree "Lovey" Manning, 9 months old, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Health Care of Burlington, Vt.

Born in Burlington, June 16, 2003, she was the daughter of Billy Joe Manning and Adrienne R. Beayon of Ticonderoga.

In addition to her parents, Laketsha is survived by her twin sister, Natasha Marie Manning; her paternal grandparents, Grant "Buzz" and Theresa "Terry" Manning of Ticonderoga; and her maternal grandparents, Robert Beayon of Poultney, Vt., and Susan Beayon of Hubbardton, Vt. She is also survived by her great-grandparents; and many aunts; uncles; and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will take place at the family plot of the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Ticonderoga later in the spring.

Mary L. LaValley

Ellenburg Depot — Mary L. LaValley, 91, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Mooers Forks on Feb. 20, 1913, the daughter of William and Mary (Ebare) Lafountain.

She lived in Green Valley all of her life and enjoyed gardening, country and western music and talking on the phone with her family and friends. She was a member of the Pioneer Club for many years. She was a resident from March 1, 2003, at the home of Veronica and Rene Langlois of Champlain.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Orville and Connie LaValley of Ellenburg and Gary LaValley and his companion Debbie King of Altona; three brothers, Howard Lafountain of Centralia, Wash., Wilfred Lafountain of Brattleboro, Vt., and George LaPine of Brattleboro, Vt.; a sister, Albina Putnam of Brattleboro, Vt.; six grandchildren, Peggy and Jeff McNeil of Ellenburg Depot, Donna LaValley of Mooers Forks, Jeffrey LaValley of Plattsburgh, Christina King of Altona, Dan Dessereault of Plattsburgh and Denise Carper of Ellenburg Depot; five great-grandsons; seven great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Arthur LaValley Sr., whom she married on Jan. 30, 1934, died on June 21, 1982; and a son, Arthur LaValley Jr., died on Nov. 11, 1995. Seven brothers, Milan, Sylva, William, Fred, George and Oliver Lafountain and Howard Laflam; and two sisters, Delinda Hough and Alma Whitney, also died earlier.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday from St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg. Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery in Mooers Forks on Tuesday, April 27th, following a 9 a.m. memorial service from St. Ann's Church.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Edmund’s Maintenance Fund.

The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot is in charge of arrangements.

Malcolm F. Lucas

Lake Ozonia AND Nicholville, N.Y. — Malcolm F. Lucas, 78, of Lake Ozonia and Nicholville, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth; three sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Ellen Lucas of Brushton, Jeffery and Michelle Lucas of Clinton, Maine, and Derrick and Cari Lucas of Plattsburgh; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and William Kottmann of Naperville, Ill., and Diana and Malcolm Lavery of Plattsburgh; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother, Manley Lucas of St. Regis Falls; and sister, Joyce Jones of Tampa, Fla.

Mr. Lucas was born on Sept. 30, 1925, in Nicholville, son of the late Vance and Eleanor (Collins) Lucas. He attended Nicholville School. He is a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Air Force, 56th Air Engineer Squadron in the Philippine Islands.

He married Ruth M. Williams on April 23, 1950, in Potsdam. Mr. Lucas owned and operated Lucas Store in Nicholville and Express Lanes in Plattsburgh and Peru. He was past master of Nicholville Lodge F & AM and a member of the Nicholville Fire Department.

Malcolm enjoyed the outdoors and hunting; he was a member of McCavanaugh Pond Club for all of his adult life. He was an avid runner and competed in many road races. Malcolm was an industrious man who always had numerous projects going on in and around his home in Nicholville that he took great pride in.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hammill Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Mound Hill Cemetery in Nicholville.

Arrangements are with the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Nathaniel W. Pollock

Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. — Nathaniel W. Pollock of' Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., died March 25, 2004. He was 94 years old.

Mr. Pollock was born Jan. 9, 1910, in Brooklyn, the son of Jenny and Bernard Pollock. He attended schools in Brooklyn and later worked for the Strand Theater for several years. He joined the firm of' David Raider and Sons in 1935 and retired in 1981 as executive vice-president and part owner of' the firm.

On Nov. 25, 1937, Mr. Pollock married Mabel Gibeau of Plattsburgh, N.Y. They first lived in Washington Heights, then moved to Hastings-on-Hudson in 1964. Mabel died in 1998.

He is survived by his daughters, Claudia of Hastings-on-Hudson and Virginia Thompson of' Kingsport, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sidney of Florida and Morris of' Australia.

Visiting hours are on Sunday, March 28th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Ave., Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, Hastings-on-Hudson. He will be buried in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

James D. Mastic Sr.

Peru — James D. Mastic Sr., 76, of the Mud Pond Road, Peru, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh, May 6, 1926, the son of Herbert and Rossie (Gadway) Mastic.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.

Jim retired following many years of service with the Town of Plattsburgh Highway Department. He was also employed as a deputy sheriff in Clinton County, Luck Brothers in Plattsburgh and Imperial Mill.

He most enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Henriette D. (Hebert) Mastic of Peru; a daughter, Sheryl of Elizabethtown; two sons, James Mastic and Michael Mastic Jr., both of Peru; two grandsons, Christopher and Garrett Mastic, both of Peru; a sister, Joyce Blakely of Kansas; and several nieces and nephews from the United States and Canada.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Peru with Rev. William Reamer, chaplain at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Peru Rescue Squad.

Betty Ruth Stairs 1925 - 2004

FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK — The death of Betty Ruth Stairs occurred suddenly but peacefully at her family home in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on Saturday, March 20, 2004, after a lifetime of giving joyfully to others and triumphing over adversity and medical challenges.

Betty Ruth is survived by her husband, the Rev. Conard E. Stairs; her son Gary and his spouse Susanne Alexander, Fredericton, New Brunswick; her son Glenn and his spouse Stephanie Simpson, Napanee, Ontario; sisters Margaret Payne, Mooers, N.Y., and Belle Marie (Dr. Robert) Woodworth, Nampa, Idaho; brothers Robert Christensen, West Chazy, N.Y., Tom (Nancy) Christensen, McLean, Va., and Lyle (Kay) Christensen, Powhatan, Va.; a brother-in-law, Edison Stairs, Woodward, New Brunswick; three grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply, Isaac Prah and Nia Simpson-Stairs, Napanee, Ontario, and Aaron Alexander-Stairs, Fredericton, New Brunswick; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, the Rev. Alfred and Ethel Christensen of Altona, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Lindon Payne of Mooers, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law, Lois Stairs of Woodward, New Brunswick.

Born in Upland, Ind., Betty Ruth was raised in upstate New York. She earned her B.Ed. (music) at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass., where she met the man of her dreams, packed up her paint brushes, piano books and trombone and followed him to the windswept shores of Nova Scotia. She became a dedicated parent and assisted "C.E." with church ministries in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Maine, and Ontario, and the presidency of Bethany Bible College in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Sussex, New Brunswick. During the summer months, she led many play-filled vacations with C.E. and the boys at the cottage at Beulah Camp.

Following their move to Fredericton, B.R., as she was known, became a member and organist at Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church and loved to sing and schmooze with the Fredericton Choral Society. Prior to her retirement, she was a fashion consultant at Calps Ltd. and compassionately assisted C.E. with sales at Heritage Memorials. She also partnered with C.E. in several businesses, including three Christian bookstores and his two devotional publishing ventures. Her last hours were spent caring for C.E. at his hospital bedside.

A funeral was held at Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church, Barkers Point, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24. Rev. Melrose Norton and Rev. Peter Thomas officiated. Interment will take place at the Otis Cemetery in Nackawic at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Arthritis Society, the Canadian Heart Foundation, or the World Missions Fund of the Wesleyan Church.

Rita Mae Carey, 86, of Ogdensburg, N.Y., and formerly of Keene, N.Y., died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the Cedar United Nursing Home.

She was born March 16, 1918, in North Adams, Mass., the daughter of Frank and Lorette (Rogers) Carey.

No calling hours will be held. A graveside service will be held at Norton Cemetery in the spring.

W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown is in charge of arrangements.

Janet Webb, of Cumberland Head, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Syracuse, the daughter of Arthur A. and J. Chatterton (Mason) Webb.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete as of Saturday at R.W. Walker Funeral Home.

Lillian M. Miner, 86, of John Street, Chateaugay, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone, N.Y.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, March 28th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon on Monday, March 29th, in St. Patrick's Church, with Rev. John Demo officiating.

Burial will take place in the spring at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chateaugay.

Wilma Rita Quesnel, 71, of Washington Street, Tupper Lake, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 29th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home. A funeral Mass at Holy Name Church will be announced in the Monday edition.
