Paul A. Demers

Champlain — Paul A. Demers, 73, of Champlain, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at his home. He was born Jan. 25, 1931, in Mooers, son of the late Nelson and Elodia (Yelle) Demers.

Paul married Catherine Ferris on Dec. 7, 1974. They were married for 27 years prior to her death on Aug. 24, 2002. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.

Paul retired from the Champlain Telephone Co. in 1992 as a line gang foreman, after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3525 in Champlain and an avid card player.

Besides his parents and wife, Paul was predeceased by his brothers, Arsene and Ernest Demers.

He is survived by six sisters, Juliette Macey, Doralice Guerin, Clarisse and Isidore Hebert, Gertrude and Clarence Supernault, Theresa Rabideau and Gloria and John Paul Tetrault; one sister-in-law, Bernice Demers; four children, Marian (Ferris) and Guy Juneau, Rev. Rebecca (Ferris) and Leland Emery, Daniel and Robin Ferris and Patricia (Ferris) and Peter Beebie; eight grandchildren, Jason and Sheila Juneau, Jennifer (Juneau) and Paul Lederman, Amanda (Brown) and Matthew Whalen, Robin (Brown) and David Trudeau, Brooke Ferris, Aaron Ferris, Danielle Emery and Nichole (Emery) and Sean Reynaud; nine great-grandchildren, Noah John Lederman, Ryleigh Catherine Whalen, Olivia and Alexander Trudeau, Shawna Ferris, Dylan and Brandon Emery and Jacob and Nicholas Reynaud; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, March 22, 2004, with a memorial service following at 3 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A reception in Paul's honor will be held immediately following the service at the Knights of Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Champlain EMS in Paul's memory.

A. Marie Denicore Linck

PLATTSBURGH — A. Marie Denicore Linck, 81, of 221 Champlain Dr., Cliff Haven and formerly of Fort Lee, N.J., died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Plattsburgh on June 15, 1922, the daughter of Leo S. and Mary E. (Rooney) Denicore.

Mrs. Linck married Anthony E. Linck at St. Peter's Church in 1950.

She worked as a secretary for the U.S. Department of Labor in New York City, then moved to Washington D.C. to work for the State Department and was posted in Cairo, Egypt, as the secretary to the ambassador to Greece during World War II. Following the war, she returned to New York City where she worked as the assistant to the picture editor for Life Magazine for many years. She retired to work with her husband who was a Life Magazine photographer. She and her husband recently moved to Plattsburgh to live near family members.

She is survived by her husband; one sister, Elizabeth Kelly of Plattsburgh; one brother-in-law, Harold Linck and his wife Shirley of Booneville, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Isabella Linck of Booneville, N.Y.; four cousins, William Spellman and his wife Bonnie and Deborah Spellman, all of Plattsburgh, Patrick Spellman and his wife Tina of Dannemora and Michael Spellman of Ogdensburg; one aunt, Mary Louise Fifield of Plattsburgh; and one niece, Valerie.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Church.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Elizabeth Denicore Kelly Endowment Fund c/o Plattsburgh State University College Foundation.

Doris M. Rugar

Plattsburgh — Mrs. Doris M. Rugar, 88, formerly of Sailly Avenue and Miller Street, passed away on Friday, March 19, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Montgomery Center, Vt., on July 20, 1915, daughter of Edward and Mary (Garrow) Benoit.

Doris was a member of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. She loved to cook.

Doris is survived by a son, Jack Rugar and companion Judi Lynch of Dannemora; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Al Keen of Pahrump, Nev.; a daughter-in-law, Martha Rugar of West Plattsburgh; six grandchildren, Jackie Rugar, Jeff and Michelle Rugar, Don Keen, Sheryl Huffman, Sharon Hampton and Susan Keen; two sisters-in-law, Natalie Rugar and Geraldine Rugar; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews; and good friends Jean Baker and the Larry Roussy family.

Doris was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters; and her husband, John Harold Rugar.

Calling hours will be Sunday, March 21, 2004, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, March 22, 2004, at 10 a.m. from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society.

Royal Brunk

Keeseville — Royal Brunk, 68, of The Highlands Road, died at CVPH Thursday, March 18, 2004, after a long illness.

He was born in Keeseville on July 16, 1935, the son of Max and Mildred (Johnpeer) Brunk.

He was a vestry member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Keeseville, a retired correction officer, a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Willsboro Fish and Game Club and an avid Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife, Irene (Murray) Brunk, whom he married in 1953; children Debra and Robert Rock, Max and Pamela Brunk and Philip and Tammy Brunk, all of Willsboro, Sandra and Peter Trombley of Keeseville, Tina Leistner of Willsboro and Sean Brunk of Texas; a brother, Carl and Carol Brunk of Texas; three sisters, Rita Ann and Dale Aubin of Texas, Marjorie and Thomas Thornton of Willsboro and Rosemary and Leon Clodgo of Keeseville; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Calling hours will be held at the Huestis Funeral Home, Maple Street, Willsboro, on Saturday, March 20th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Keeseville at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21st. Burial will be in the Douglas Cemetery in Port Douglas at a later date.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations in his memory be made to the St. Paul's Building Fund or the Keeseville Rescue Squad.

Isabel Scalzo

Moriah, N.Y. — lsabel Scalzo, 85, formerly of Moriah, N.Y., passed away Thursday, March 18, 2004, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

She was a resident at the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home in Ticonderoga for the past year, where she cherished the company of her new friends and enjoyed the many activities, especially bingo, bowling and playing cards.

Isabel was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., on Feb. 11, 1919, the daughter of Carmen Perez Hernandez and Faustino Perez and stepdad Benifacio Hernandez.

She was an avid homemaker who enjoyed knitting, crocheting and best of all, cooking and teaching the grandchildren her Spanish/Italian way of cooking. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Isabel was a member of the Moriah Fire Department Woman's Auxiliary.

Isabel is survived by her two daughters and one son, Claudia and Howard Swan of Moriah, Barbara and Glenn Moorby of Port Henry and Thomas and Bonnie Scalzo of Moriah; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; four sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Claude Neggia of one year, whom she lost in a mining accident at Republic Steel; and her late husband of 61 years, Thomas Scalzo; her father, Faustino Perez; her mother and stepfather, Carmen and Benifacio Hernandez; her three brothers and one sister, Ignatius Perez of Albany, Manuel Perez of Moriah, Andrew Perez of Salina, Kan., and Mercedes O'Neil of Moriah; also a granddaughter, Renee Moorby.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry. Burial will be in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial donations may be made to the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home, Ticonderoga, N.Y.

Alice M. Forrett, 66, of Rte 22 in West Chazy, died Friday, March 19, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 31, 1937, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Daniels) Reeves.

Calling hours will be Monday, March 22, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Burial will be later this year in the St. Ann’s Cemetery.

Richard J. "Dick" Trombly, 69, of Todd Drive Ext., Norton, Mass., died unexpectedly at his residence on March 15, 2004.

He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Nov. 24, 1934, the son of the late Joseph A. and Flora M. (Allard) Trombly.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Murray Unitarian - Universalist Church, 505 No. Main St., Attleboro, Mass., with the Rev. Sandra Fitz-Henry, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray Unitarian-Universalist Church Memorial Garden, Attleboro.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., North Attleboro, Mass.
