Published: 3/18/04Bates LowryBoston, Mass. — Bates Lowry, art historian, museum director, folk art and photography collector, of Boston, Mass., died March 12, 2004, at the age of 80, three months after the death of his wife of 57 years, Isabel Barrett. The Lowrys enjoyed a summer home, Bird’s Nest, in the Crater Club in Essex for more than 30 years. He is survived by his two daughters, Anne Klonsky of Chicago and Patricia Lowry of Brooklyn; sons-in-law, Fred Klonsky and John Touhey; grandsons, Evan and Colin; granddaughters, Jessica and Leigh; grandson-in-law Chris; and great-granddaughter, Lucy Isabel. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to Essex Community Heritage Organization, Box 250, Essex, NY 12936. Paul A. Demers, 73, of Champlain died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at his home. Calling hours will be Monday, March 22, 2004, from 1 to 3 p.m. with a memorial service following at 3 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. Edith L. Mainville, 90, of Fort Covington, N.Y., a resident of the Highland Nursing Home in Massena, since June 2003, died Tuesday evening, March 16, 2004, at the Massena Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Saturday. She was born in Fort Covington on July 23, 1913, the daughter of the late Luke and Mary Jane Dumas Bowen. Calling hours will be in the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 20, 2004, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church in Fort Covington, with the Reverend Stephen Rocker, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Raymond George King, 81, of the True Brook Road, Saranac, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. |
