Rolland Albert Miller

March 4, 1903 - March 4, 2004

Elizabethtown — After a remarkably long life, Rolland A. Miller, best know as Rollie, passed away on his 101st birthday at the Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown, N.Y.

The son of Albert and Mary (Dickerson) Miller, Rollie was born March 4, 1903, at the family farm in Brainards Forge, N.Y.

Rollie began his career as an accountant for International Combustion Engineering Company in New York City. It was during this time that he met and married Grace VanSice in 1927. They remained a devoted couple until her death in 1974.

Rollie and Grace moved to Lewis after the 1929 stock market crash. Rollie went to work for Harry Johnson's Garage in Lewis. Shortly thereafter, he purchased his home in Lewis, where he resided for over 60 years. Rollie and Grace operated Miller's Motel & Cabins for a number of years and they made many friends who returned year after year.

Rollie was active in his community as a member of the Lewis Town Board, town supervisor, Justice of the Peace, Lewis Volunteer Fire Department, Elizabethtown-Lewis School Board and Deacon of the Lewis Congregational Church.

Sitting on his front porch was one of Rollie's favorite pastimes. He was always a proud resident of Lewis and enjoyed life within a small town. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Rollie was predeceased by his parents; brother Rupert; nephew Don Miller; son - in - law Don Kelley; granddaughter Jill LaDieu (Arsenault); and son-in-law Gerald Bergeron.

He is survived by his daughters, Joan Bergeron of Lewis, Carol Kelley of Vero Beach, Fla., Marilyn Arsenault and her husband Phillip of Lewis and Nancy Hooper and her husband Thomas of Glens Falls; seven grandchildren; and 10 great - grandchildren.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Horace Nye Nursing Home for their care of Rollie during his time of residence.

A memorial service will be held for Rollie at the Lewis Congregational Church on Monday, March 8th at 11 a.m. Funeral service under the direction of Marvin's Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Rollie’s memory to the Lewis Congregational Church or the Lewis Volunteer Fire Department.

Lewis I. Andrews

AuSable Forks — Lewis I. Andrews, 78, of Palmer Street, AuSable Forks, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 5, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Hudson Falls, N.Y., on Nov. 4, 1925, the son of Curtis and Mary (Gregory) Andrews.

Lewis was a house painter by trade, employed by Stay Brothers in Plattsburgh. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 504, AuSable Forks. He enjoyed playing bingo, purchasing lottery tickets and hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Gravelle) Andrews, whom he married Nov. 2, 1952; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Theresa Andrews of Schuyler Falls, Alice and Herman Mallemuth of AuSable Forks, Marion and Steve Florino of Plattsburgh, Agnes and Marvin Goddeau of Schuyler Falls and Elly and Jay Borden of AuSable Forks; and two sons and two daughters-in-law, Curtis and Evelyn Andrews of Keeseville and Wayne and Cindy Andrews of Plattsburgh; 22 grandchildren; 13 great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Lewis I. Andrews Jr.; great-grandson Jerry Hart; his parents; and his brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will be held Monday, March 8, at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery.

Memorials to him may be made to the AuSable Forks Volunteer Ambulance Service.

James M. Kennedy

Zephyrhills, Fla. — James M. Kennedy, 83, of Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away there on Thursday, March 4, 2004.

He was born in Plattsburgh on June 30, 1920, son of Edgar and Helen (Waldron) Kennedy.

James was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He had been employed at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora as an assistant food manager; he retired in 1982. James was a member of Keeseville Elks Lodge 7072 and Moose Lodge 766 in Orlando, Fla. He enjoyed bowling and playing pool.

James is survived by his wife, Bertha (Parsons) Kennedy of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a daughter, Karen Kolbinsky and her husband John of Plymouth, Mass.; a son, Michael Kennedy and his wife Molly of Manchester, N.H.; a brother, John Kennedy of New London, Conn.; stepchildren, Penny Trudeau of Covington, Ga., Rosemary Juneau of Rouses Point, Sue Ellen Coste of Plattsburgh, Ronald Parsons of Florida and Michael Parsons of Morrisonville; several grandchildren; several great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Kennedy; two sisters, Trudy Mannix and Margaret Vollmer; and two brothers, Edgar Kennedy and Bernard Kennedy.

Calling hours will be Sunday, March 7, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the Keeseville Elks Lodge will meet Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. Members of the Moose Lodge will meet Sunday evening at 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 8, 2004, at 10 a.m. from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Madeline Keena, 91, of 30 Greenwood St., Lake Placid, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, where she had been a resident since June 2002.

She was born in Bronx, N.Y., on Aug. 9, 1911, the daughter of Stephen and Sarah (McManus) Keena.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced followed by burial in the North Elba Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Beirne will give the Liturgy.

The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Mason Allen, 101, of Sonya Way, Plattsburgh, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at her home under the loving care of her family.

She was born in Amwell, N.J., March 17, 1902, the daughter of John and Laura (Bresse) Mason.

There will be no public calling hours. Burial will be in the spring in St. Augustine's Cemetery in Peru. A complete obituary will be in the Monday Press - Republican.

Arrangements are being handled by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

Andrew L. "Sonny" Buskey Sr., 79, of Northtree Place in Virginia Beach and formerly of Saranac, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2004, at his home.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
