Published: 10/30/04Roderick P. CareyAuSable Forks — Roderick P. Carey, 77, of the Stickney Bridge Road, passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at his home. Rod was born Aug. 31, 1926, in AuSable Forks, the son of Patrick and Dorothy (LeClair) Carey. He was an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Co., one of the last salesman with a personal touch. After leaving that position, he and Thomas Phillips formed a partnership, operating the AuSable Valley Insurance Agency. He was a faithful officer of the AuSable Forks Rotary Club for over 40 years and did an outstanding job as secretary for 20 years. He was a member of the Keeseville Elks for 32 years, a member of the N.Y.S. Planning Federation and chairman of the Town of Jay Planning Board, an assessor for the Town of Jay and a school bus driver for several years. He enjoyed building and working with wood. He also was an Eucharistic minister and reader at Holy Name Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Wright) Carey, whom he married Sept. 6, 1947, at Holy Name Catholic Church; a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Holly Carey of Jay; two granddaughters, Susanna Carey of Jay and Carrie Prevo of California; and a son-in-law, Philip Hardy of Eagle Bay. He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Jeanne Margaret Hardy, in April 1996; a brother, Adrian Carey and a sister, Florence Stanley. Calling hours will be Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, AuSable Forks. In lieu of flowers, memorials to him may be made to the Jeanne M. Carey Hardy Memorial Foundation, Inc., in care of P.O. Box 207, AuSable Forks, NY 12912. Jean Biggs RyanLatham, N.Y. — Jean Biggs Ryan, 80, of Latham, formerly of Plattsburgh, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at Eddy Ford Nursing Home, Cohoes. She was born in Republican, Ark., the daughter of the late Thomas R. and Nora (Williams) Biggs. She attended high school and business school in Conway, Ark. Mrs. Ryan moved to Tulsa, Okla., where she was employed by Douglas Aircraft. In 1946, Jean married Clarence B. Ryan, a South Pacific returning veteran and they moved to Plattsburgh. She had been a resident of Latham since 1963. An office clerk at the former Denby's department store headquarters in Menands for 10 years, she retired in 1983. A communicant of St. Ambrose Church, Latham, she was a Eucharistic minister and had been active in the church choir and funeral choir and the Catholic Daughters. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Dr. Nancy Petersen; son-in-law, the Hon. Douglas Petersen; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Kati Petersen, all of Marblehead, Mass.; and her sister-in-law, Mildred Biggs, of Conway, Ark. She was predeceased by her brothers, Alton, Harley and Jake Biggs. Friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Bowen Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose Church, Latham, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Spring interment in St. Peter's Cemetery, Plattsburgh. Caesar, 90, of the Vilas Home, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born on July 12, 1913, in Ticonderoga, the second oldest of Louis and Louise (Mingo) Gonyea's 10 children. Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 3, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 4, 2004, at 10 a.m. from St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Norris Crary, of 19 Front St., Tupper Lake, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at his home. Calling hours are scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 29th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the United Community Church. E. Ethel Ashlaw, 78, of the Burke Adult Home and formerly of 4 Patnode St., Malone, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center. She was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Plymouth, Mass., the daughter of Rev. Albert E. and Rev. Lillian E. (Hargrave) Montgomery. Calling hours will be Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the St. Mary - Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, March 1, 2004, at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church. Spring burial will take place in St. Helen's Cemetery, Chasm Falls, N.Y. Audrey Young O’Hara, of 45 Wall St., Mineville, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at her home. She was born on Jan. 11, 1926, at Chesterfield, N.Y., the daughter of Arthur and Maude (Turner) Young. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, March 1, 2004, at 1 p.m. at The Church of All Saints, Mineville, N.Y., with Monsignor C. John McAvoy officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery. The Harland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Edie Daniels, of Morrisonville, died on Feb. 23, 2004, at Fletcher Allen Hospital, Burlington, Vt. She was born on Jan. 23, 1960, the daughter of Clifford and Alberta Daniels. A memorial service was held at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville on Feb. 24, 2004. |
