Published: 2/27/04George E. DenoWest Chazy — George E. Deno, 68, died at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004. Son of the late Maxim and Mary (Martin) Deno, he was born on the family dairy farm on Route 22 in West Chazy. George graduated from Mount Assumption Institute in 1952. He farmed the family acres and made maple syrup until he retired in 1998. More recently, he found joy in tending his backyard garden and trees. For a time, George also drove bus for Beekmantown Central School and hauled milk and lumber. For 28 years, he owned and operated Brean & Deno's Country Store in West Chazy with his wife, Carolyn (Brean), who he married on Oct. 26, 1957. Seven years ago, George and Carolyn opened Guma's restaurant on Route 22 in West Chazy. An active public servant, George was a Town of Chazy councilman/justice from 1970 through 1973. For more than 40 years, he was a firefighter with West Chazy Fire Department and he served as a fire commissioner for several terms. George was a member of the first St. Joseph's Parish Council in West Chazy and served several times over the years. He belonged to the Chazy Democrat Party for more than 40 years and was a member for four-plus decades of the New York State Maple Producers Association. For the past 15 years, George belonged to the Clinton County Board of Supervisors and for much of that time, was treasurer. He received many honors over the years, including the Clinton County ARC's Good Neighbor Award. He and Carolyn were crowned king and queen of Chazy Old Home Day in 2001. George gave the last 15 years of his life to the Town of Chazy, serving as town supervisor. Under his leadership, public water and sewer systems were installed in the Chazy hamlet area. A new town garage was built after a fire on Feb. 4, 1991. George also headed efforts that resulted in the Town of Chazy Zoning Law. In recent months, he dedicated himself to planning the town's upcoming 200th-anniversary celebration. He was very proud of his community and excited about that benchmark. George is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a son Jerry and a son Jeff and his fiancée, Tammy Ero, all of West Chazy. He also leaves a brother, Monsignor Lawrence Deno of Cadyville; five grandchildren, Danielle and Adam Deno, KayLeigh and Jordan Deno and Barbie Ero; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Brean, all of West Chazy; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. A reception will follow at the parish center. George was much loved and will be missed by all. He leaves a legacy of giving. Donations in his memory may be made to the Town of Chazy to benefit the Bicentennial Celebration, P.O. Box 217, Chazy, NY 12921. Gloria V. LordChamplain — Gloria V. Lord, 74, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at her home with her husband, family and friends in attendance. Gloria was born July 28, 1929, in Rouses Point, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis Favreau. Gloria worked at the Champlain Laundry for many years. In 1965, Gloria and her husband Kenneth opened the Lord Marina in Coopersville. In 1980, after selling the Lord Marina, they opened Ken's Marina. Gloria also worked for the Keeseville Bank in Chazy for a few years before retiring. She was an active deer hunter and enjoyed hunting with her husband at their camp in Saranac Lake. She is survived by her husband Kenneth; two sisters, Colleen and Everest Frenya and Sally and Bill Duprey. One brother-in-law, Gordon and Irene Lord and family, as well as several nieces and nephews, also survive her. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be in the spring at Glenwood Cemetery in Champlain at the family's convenience. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Champlain EMS. Arrangements are with the M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. Myron D. MajorGuilderland — Myron Darius Major, 77, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at Our Lady of Mercy Lifecare Center in Guilderland, N.Y., Albany County. Myron was born in Champlain, N.Y., and formerly lived in Plattsburgh, Glens Falls and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He has lived in Guilderland since 1977. He graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Champlain and attended the former Champlain College at Plattsburgh. He served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps during World War II. In 1956, he started working for the State Bank of Albany and retired as bank manager in Glens Falls. He was a member of the American Institute of Banking and the Cornell University Banking Program. He was past treasurer of the Champlain Valley Industrial Management Club and also of the Plattsburgh Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a past member of the Plattsburgh Elks Lodge 621 and the Champlain American Legion Post 767. Survivors include one brother, Leo Major of Champlain, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, James J., Andrew, William, Michael and Lawrence Major. Graveside services will be held at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Ellenburg, N.Y., in the spring. Wilson, 71, of the Jewett Road, Westville, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, under the care of his family and Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Ft. Covington, N.Y., on Dec. 4, 1932, the son of the late David H. and Eva (Bouissey) Wilson. Calling hours will be held at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc., on Saturday from 1 p.m. until time for funeral services in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Westville in the spring. Stanley R. Ero, 63, of the Telegraph Road, Peru, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on July 23, 2004, the son of Rolla and Alice (Blair) Ero. There will be no public calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 6, 2004, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. |
