Helen M. St. Dennis

Plattsburgh — Mrs. Helen M. St. Dennis, 78, of Waterhouse Street, Plattsburgh, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Schuyler Falls on Nov. 17, 1925, the daughter of Jenny LaRock.

Helen retired from Diamond International in March 1981. She enjoyed camping, bowling, playing cards and bingo.

Helen was predeceased by her mother, Jenny LaRock; and her husband, Victor J. "Sonny" St. Dennis.

She is survived by a son, Terry A. St. Dennis and his wife Gail of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Bonnie Osborne of Plattsburgh; four grandchildren, Terry V. St. Dennis and his wife Bernice, Mrs. Thomas (Amy) Godding, Mrs. Derek (Nicole) Heroux and Mindy Osborne; and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. Interment will be at a later date at the Schuyler Falls Cemetery.

Friends wishing may make donations to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

Marion H. Merrow

Allentown, Pa. — Marion H. Merrow, 84, of 6168 Putter Dr., Allentown, Pa., died Feb. 23, 2004, at her home after a brief illness.

Marion was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Burlington, Vt., the daughter of Edward and Lillian Holcomb of Westport, N.Y.

She is survived by her daughter Marta Countess, her son-in-law Jeff and their two sons, Tyler and Brooks, with whom she’s lived since 1999. Her husband of 43 years, Francis "Meko" Merrow died in 1993.

Marion graduated from Westport Central School and after one year at Plattsburgh State, entered the workforce. During World War II, Marion contributed to the war effort at Bell Aircraft in Burlington, Vt. She was then employed as a dental assistant for Dr. Noel Merrihew Sr. in Westport for ten years. She retired from the Essex County Department of Tourism as Deputy Director in 1983. She and her husband also owned and operated restaurants in Westport, including the restaurant at the Westport Country Club and The Crooked Eye.

Marion was very active politically throughout her life, having served as Chairman of the Town of Westport Republican Committee for many years and Secretary/Treasurer of the Essex County Republican Committee for 19 years. She was also a member of the Republican Women of Essex County.

Marion was a member of the Westport Federated Church, where she served as treasurer of the Women’s Group for 30 years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.

A memorial service is planned for July 24, 2004, at the Westport Federated Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to her grandson’s school: The Hillside School, In Memory of Marion Merrow, 2697 Brookside Rd., Macungie, PA 18062.

Local arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport.
