Published: 10/30/04Beatrice C. (Garcia) AndersonOrlando, Fla. — Beatrice C. (Garcia) Anderson died Feb. 20, 2004, at age 89 in Orlando, Fla., after a short illness. Beatrice was born in New Braunfels, Texas, and moved to Keeseville, N.Y., in 1958. She is survived by her husband, Henry Anderson of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Betty Garcia of Gansevoort, N.Y., Edward and Penny Garcia of New Port Ritchie, Fla., Richard and Ann Garcia of Keeseville, N.Y., and Arthur and Dianne Garcia of Orlando, Fla. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, John Garcia of Keeseville, N.Y. A viewing will be held at Family Funeral Care and a Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 24, 2004. The interment will take place in Keeseville, N.Y., in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Life Path Hospice, 3010 West Acede St., Tampa, FL 33609. Carolyn J. TompkinsPlattsburgh — Carolyn J. Tompkins, 65, of Bea's Way, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Morrisonville, N.Y., on March 5, 1938, the daughter of Leo and Alvina (LaRocque) Sweeney. Carolyn graduated from D'Youville Academy and then attended the Loretta Business College where she received her associates degree. She worked at CVPH Medical Center as Director of Patient Accounts for over 21 years, retiring in 1994. Carolyn was instrumental in introducing many policies and procedures used by CVPH with regards to the patient accounts. She had also served as chairperson for a year for the United Way Fund drive at CVPH. Following her retirement, she worked for the Cornell Cooperative Extension as a bookkeeper. Carolyn had a very strong faith. She attended St. Peter's Church regularly and prayed the rosary several times a day. She was also a regular volunteer with the St. Peter's Soup Kitchen. Survivors include her loving and dear husband, Charlie Tompkins of Plattsburgh; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Marcie Tompkins of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Penny Leonard of Plattsburgh; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Patricia and Joseph O'Malley of Duanesburg, N.Y., Nancy and Edward Hoffman of Latham, N.Y., and Diane and William Murray of Westerlo, N.Y.; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Doris Sweeney of Morrisonville; two sisters, Beverly Quante of Denver, Colo., and Shirley Reyell of Schuyler Falls, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; four great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; one sister, Barbara Cumm; and three brothers-in-law, Joseph Cumm, Albert "Lefty" Reyell and John Quante. Calling hours will be held on Monday, Feb. 23, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter's Church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery in the spring. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Peter's Parish. Darin Vladimir LiskaBurlington, Vt. — Darin Vladimir Liska, 88, of South Burlington, Vt., passed away peacefully at Starr Farm Nursing Center on Friday, Feb. 20, 2004. Darin was born Vladimir Liska in Czech Republic on Nov. 12, 1915. He received his education, including an advanced degree in structural engineering, in Prague, Czech Republic, in 1939. Following many years of political persecution by the new Communist Regime of Czechoslovakia, he escaped to Austria along with his wife and son. He then immigrated to the United States in March 1964, settling in New York City. He was a licensed PE in New York, Texas and Vermont. During his professional career of 55 years, he worked on hundreds of projects, including the Rockefeller State Office Mall in Albany, N.Y., off-shore oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and major chemical plants in Saudi Arabia. Later in his career, semi-retired, he worked on many smaller projects in the Plattsburgh, N.Y., area. Most of all, Darin loved his wife Millie. They were soul mates over 50 years and shared everything. Darin was proud of his only son, Peter Liska and his five grandchildren, Peter Liska II of New York City, Maryann Liska of Boston, Katrina Liska of Plattsburgh, James Liska of AuSable Forks, N.Y., and Morgan Keough Liska of Burlington, Vt. Darin as a grandfather left a very special mark on each of his grandchildren, teaching Katrina how to play soccer, Maryann how to waltz and showing his grandsons not to be afraid to explore and follow their dreams. Survivors include his wife Millie of 53 years; his son Peter and his wife Kate Keough of Burlington, Vt.; his sister Milena of Germany; and grandchildren Peter, Maryann, Katrina, James and Morgan. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St., Winooski, Vt. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. Richard Ellsworth Hitchcock, 85, of Queensbury and Ticonderoga, passed away Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at his home in Queensbury. He was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Sterling, Neb. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at the family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga. |
