Justin Peter Malady

Rock Hill, S.C. — Mr. Justin Peter Malady, 94, of Rock Hill, S.C., passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at Spring Arbor of Rock Hill.

He was formerly of Watertown, N.Y., and Plattsburgh, N.Y. Born July 12, 1909, in Watertown, N.Y., Mr. Malady was a son of the late Patrick H. Malady and Lillian (Clow) Malady.

He was the widower of Mary Alice Gould Malady. He was a graduate of Watertown High School. Mr. Malady moved to Plattsburgh in the early 1950’s where he opened Malady’s Machinery Co. and later retired from State University of New York at Plattsburgh. He was a poet and was active in several poetry societies, including where he wintered in Daytona Beach, Fla. He published numerous short stories, 28 books of poetry, had a web page through the International Society of Poetry and received a number of poetry awards along the way. He was active in the Watertown Historical Society.

Surviving are his daughter, Judith "Judy" Farewell of Rock Hill, S.C.; two grandchildren, Jean Farewell of Arlington, Mass., and Joanna Farewell Campbell, both of North Grafton, Mass.; and his great-granddaughter, Autumn Jean Farewell Campbell of North Grafton, Mass.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Malady and Karl Malady; and his sister, Vera M. Martin.

Memorials may be made to the Town of Watertown Historical Society, 22867 County Rte 67, Watertown, NY 13601.

Leon Whitford of Port Henry, N.Y., died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at the Community Hospital, Elizabethtown, N.Y.

Leon was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Moriah, N.Y., the son of Perl and Harriet (Brown) Whitford.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry.

Arthur F. Vermette, 83, of Willow St., Malone, N.Y., died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. He had been a patient there since Feb. 5th.

He was born in Malone on Sept. 16, 1920, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Desnoyers) Vermette.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone in the spring.

Arrangements are with the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone.

Deborah L. Robideau, 51, of County Rte 27, Owls Head, N.Y., died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, N.Y. She had been a patient there since January 24th.

She was born in Malone on Feb. 22, 1952, the daughter of Harold P. and Doris Mae (Ashley) Spencer.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Neil McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Stevens Cemetery in Brandon, N.Y., in the spring.
